Under-rated
This is the type of game that tends to get ignored these days, something which makes this rusty old gamer sad.

Conan, does pretty much what you'd expect, run around maiming people while helping out the odd naked damsel in distress.

The game is presented in a subtle cell shaded style and is very pleasing to the eye with plenty of claret and limbs flying around to amuse.

The developers are huge God of War fans it would seem and have taken many good things from Sony's title, though Conan is much more than simple imitation. It has QTEs (Quick Time Events) and follows Kratos' levelling up system, but there's a lot more control put into the players hand. You are able to gradually build up your repertoire over time. Your moves and combo's also earn experience points which makes them more effective. So, unlike many games of the 'hack and slash' variety, the player is encouraged to use all their abilities.

Conan has 3 weapon sets, plus grapple moves to end the many minions he meets. Changing fighting styles is as simple as picking up a dismembered enemies sword or axe, making the game very fluid.

I had a lot of fun playing through Conan (which took approximately 8 hours on the Normal setting) and I will play it again. The 360 version has a great set of achievements which will make it all the more enjoyable to play through again on the games 2 harder difficulty settings.

The games largest problem is sadly enough, the last boss fight. The ultra-violence thrown aside for a gimmicky (and frustrating) environmental based reaction test. Regardless of this problem, the game still shines and at the current asking price of $24.90 I recommend it.

Those looking for story and greater depth in games should avoid, but if you waiting for Kratos, like old school games or are irritated Sega are unable to produce a good Golden Axe for the current gen, you should have fun with this title.
