As the leading PMC, Mantel Global Industries offers a high-tech arsenal of vehicles, deadly weaponry, and on top of that a performance enhancing bio-medical support known as Nectar. As a result, Mantel troopers are the most feared by terrorists, dictators, and the corporation’s political enemies.

    Haze
Never have you seen a happier bunch of soldiers in your life. You are Shane Carpenter, the latest addition to a military task force privately owned by Mantel Global Industries, a leader in the biomedical industry, and you have just met your squad mates for the first time. Their exuberance is almost overbearing. Minutes before your first mission, the Mantel men are still throwing jokes at each other. They talk about the mission - the liberation of a South African territory from a rebel militia - as if it were a football game. They look and sound like they are running on steroids. More small talk ensues and then the screen suddenly warps. You feel a sudden rush of adrenaline coursing through your veins. "Here it comes, boys!" your squad leader remarks. It turns out they really are on something similar to steroids. A substance called Nectar is periodically administered into your bloodstream to improve combat abilities. In terms of gameplay, this translates to a power up. Holding the L2 trigger provides you with a temporary boost to your mobility, shooting accuracy and health recovery rate. While in this heightened state, your enemies are automatically highlighted in orange, which is particularly useful in jungle environments. Just be careful not to overdose as you will lose control and start shooting teammates. Also watch out for the Nectar grenades that rebel troops occasionally throw. These send you into overdose mode instantaneously. Unless, of course, you are the one doing the throwing. Halfway through the game, Shane learns of Mantel's true motives and switches sides.

As a rebel, you lose access to Nectar-powered abilities, but you can now steal weapons, perform diving manoeuvres and feign death. Regardless of the side you are on, however, gameplay is tepid and uninspired. The faction-specific traits may sound cool on paper ut, in practice, they don't do much to shake up the repetitive aim-shoot-hide nature of the game. To make things worse, there is something to complain about at every step throughout the eight-hour, single-player campaign. For starters, Shane walks slower than my grandfather. Never mind that this makes darting for cover impractical. Sometimes he cannot even retreat fast enough to save his hide from heavy fire. Then, there are the controls: You can freely assign any command in the game to any button on the controller, but you cannot adjust the aiming sensitivity. In terms of weapons, you get to wield a grand total of five: an assault rifle, a shotgun, a flamethrower, a sniping rifle and a rocket launcher. Coincidentally, there are also only five different types of enemies. Even the sporadic driving segments are plagued by cars with a handling system that is overly loose. As a shooting gallery-style game, Haze is marginally entertaining when played online with friends or strangers, either through the four-player co-operative campaign, or the 16-player adversarial mode that pits Mantel soldiers against rebels. But it's the compelling narrative, which pegs a meaningful message to its ending, that prevents Haze from degenerating into a full-fledged disaster of videogame.

    RUBBISH! save your money!
I cant believe people are giving this game a go and saying even though its not that good but to give it a go, well who wants to pay full price for a game that isnt too good and to give it a go?? people cant afford to buy games that are going to dissapoint!

this game is worth a look and its only WORTH A LOOK if its in the bargain basement and worth $30 or something.

before anyone tries to say that the graphics are okay, they are not, in my eyes not to HD STANDARDS found in other games.
Even my local games shop's said the same thing and suggested i shouldnt of bought this game in the first place after they played it too!

keep your money and buy metal gear solid 4 which is due less than 2 weeks away, thats what the playstation3 will be made for!

    Unfairly reviewed
This game has received a lot of flak from various review sites, probably in backlash to it failing to live up to the hype, but really it isn't that bad. It's not a 10/10 shooter for sure, but it still offers a lot of fun and has enough unique qualities to make it stand out from the crowd. There are some aspects to the game that have been poorly executed but in most cases the ideas behind these aspects are quite interesting.
I guess the sheep out there will ignore this game now based on the reviews but for the few free-thinking people left out there, give it a shot. Rent it at least. Haze won't be everyone's cup of tea, but it's not anywhere near as bad as it has been made out to be.

    underrated and miss-interpreted
This game is quite a hit or miss type of game, let me explain where this game does this:
Hits: Fantastic sci-fi context in a quite original setting, Tight controls that are fully customisable, online 4 player seamless co-op, great soundtrack produced using a 60 piece orchestra and sound effects that really sound feel like your pounding your foes and the game is totally streamed which means no loading times!
Misses: Debatable graphics that may not be everyones cup of tea because its the art direction free radical choose, not too complex storyline, apparently has bad voice acting but are people just getting confused with cheesy dialogue?, accoding to many reviews the game has imbalanced weapons?--> but both sides (Mantel vs rebels) have parallel copies of each weapon, etc
This game is underrated and many people have been given negative impressions due to the recent bad reviews hence sadly many will pass this good game, Judge for yourself.
Just a note, most people who rate this game low don't even understand what their talking about, take the review before my post as an example: he claims this game is 720p but really this game is 571i also Call of Duty 4 is also on 720i (actually quite an awful game if your not going to play the multiplayer), most games cannot achieve the 1080p resolution especially not shooters but resolution shouldn't technically matter because the PS3 can upscale very well.

    AWFUL!
Being an exclusive game and with the tv adverts saying it was a good game, i gave this a game a go, after playing it, i knew straight away how rubbish this game was, the gameplay was boring, the graphics are cartoony and are not real enough specially that this game is only 720p and NOT 1080p and there nothing new that i havnt seen before in another game!
If you want to buy a great shooter on the ps3, get CALL OF DUTY 4, if you own it already... then wait until another shooter appears!
