description
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow takes place at the end of days. The Earth’s alliance with the Heavens has been threatened by a dark and malevolent force – the mysterious Lords of Shadow – darkness reigns the world. Across this shattered land, the souls of the dead wander unable to find peace, whilst creatures of evil roam free wreaking chaos and death upon the living.
Gabriel is a member of the Brotherhood of Light, an elite group of holy knights who protect and defend the innocent against the supernatural. His beloved wife was brutally murdered by the evil forces of darkness and her soul trapped for eternity. Neither living nor dead she realises the horrific truth of what is at stake and guides Gabriel to his destiny – and hopefully salvation for the world… but at what cost?

A true reboot to the original NES classic.
The PS3 version of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow outshines the Xbox 360 version in every aspect. This is a great action adventure game with a great combat system. The graphics on the ps3 version are jaw dropping. Excellent voice acting and original score. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is an excellent game that carries the legacy of the Castlevania series forward. If you want a break from God of War games, you should definitely check out Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. Rating: 8.0/10

What Kojima touches turns to gold, the proof and Castlevania. Fantastic game, with a story until you reach the end, you do not stop. Excellent graphics, Hack n 'Slash with a variation of tremendous blows, soundtrack and sounds worthy of an Oscar, not ambiance that sickens eyes from swamps to caves and castles, puzzles that challenge you (many veses spent hours trying to solve, seriously) , and finally a game I highly recommend it, I would say that I play on the platform (x360) is essential you have, just do not give a score of 10 for reasons that will hardly have a perfect game, but this is one that comes close.

Fantastic game.
Very good game. The graphics are above average and the gameplay is fantastic. The story is nice, but that's to be expected, being Castlevania.

Kinda boring
This game felt repetitive and couldn't quite capture my attention for long. Graphics are great, music is epic, but gameplay is greatly overshadowed by the likes of Devil May Cry or Bayonetta. Still good if you have some spare time, but nothing special overall.

Good 3D Castlevania Game
Having played several 3D Castlevania game in PS2, I could say this game is the longest and best story of the series. The environment is gorgeous but to bad the fix camera gameplay sometime give you frustration. I hope they fix that if there a sequel.

I love it!
This is a great hack & slash game. Let me tell u, the graphics are excellent. You will appreciate the variety of gameplay in different different parts of the game. This game also has some puzzle solving elements in it. 5 stars!

For the Fans of Casltavania, they may disaapointed abit due to the games is no longer any same as previous, it change from 2D to 3D.
But please don't underestimated this game "Castlevania-Lord of Shadow", it still a great games, graphic, story & the stylish action.

Great Castlevania game
A little different from original Castlevania series, but it's still great game. It has stylish graphic, awesome cutscenes, epic orchestra music and spirit of old Castlevania games. Also, it's really nice, that you play not only inside of the castle, like in many 'Symphony of the Night' kinda Castlevania games.

First good 3D Castlevania game
Castlevania is a beast when it comes to 2D games, there have been so many good and excellent ones... but when it comes to 3D games, their story is a little more dark.
With horrible games seen before, this one actually gets in the right way, its a decent action game.
Just like games of its genre, like God of War or Devil May Cry, you usually fight a bunch of enemies with your character that always feels like some overpowered being.
The game suffers from some pacing issues, and there are parts were you just walk and watch the scenery, hopefully someday, action games will have a greater sense of exploration and less linearity.
All in all, is a decent enough game for what its price is right now.

This game is different from previous Castlevania games. The story is new and it's set on an alternate reality than the main Castlevania lore. The gameplay is very similar to this genre. If you played Darksiders or God of War series, you know what to expect. This game has QTE, but it's very approachable and forgiving.
Goegeous graphics, superb voice acting performance, the story is engaging especially if you also get the DLC for this game. It's a little short, about 6-10 hours, and some parts of the game can be frustrating, especially in the hardest difficulty level. An awesome action game all around. If you're a diehard Castlevania fan, play this with an open mind.

Decent PS3 adaptation
Im not such a fan of Castlevania but they story behind this one, the gameplay, the character design are pretty good. Considering the amount of fast paced action games this one is a good refresher from your usual action/hack n slash....and the story is pretty good

I like God of War. to be honest I like God of War Clones MORE. this is one of them. To be perfectly honest I enjoyed games like Dante's Inferno and Conan more than God of War games. This game is no different. I think its a great God of War clone. Some die hard 2D Castlevaina fans may not be so crazy about this game, but if you dont mind 3D adventure then this is a great game.

I am a big castlevania fan although I had only played the GBA and DS titles. They are deep involving adventures. Lords of Shadow is a very different game which draws on the Castlevania theme and delivers a God of War like experience. Its fast and fun and non stop action. The graphics are amazing in places.

great game.. the graphic is stunning as well.. the combo upgrade also superb.. however, I'm one those guy who love to smash the attack button until the bad guy died and for this game, you have to block/dodge often so I'm a little suck on this game but it still a superb game. :D

Good entry to the series
Somehow manages to stay true to the series while having a similar combat system as the God of war series, the upgrade system is very different and allows many possibilities, for the full experience theres two sets of DLC that you should pick up aswell ;)

I know that every other review told you that it has great gameplay, graphics and music, and it's all true.
If you already like the castlevania series this is a most have, and even if you're not a fan you can expect a cool game, very similar to God of Wars but also unique in it's own ways.

Honestly one of the best games I have played on the PS3. I like FPS, but I prefer adventure games. If you liked Uncharted, and GOW, this game is for you. About 20 hours of game play, a great story. A few small camera issues, but made up for in great graphics and fast paced story.

Lord of shadows is a 3D castlevania game and the graphics is really good on the PS3. Camera control has some problems now and then but overall it is a great game. Never played the other castlevania games, so cant compare it to those, but compared to the hack n slash adventure games of today, Lords of shadow is up there with the best. The enemies in particular look really awesome.

Slow start, but speeds up.
The opening level which was used as the demo on XBL is entertaining, but I found my enjoyment dropped sharply afterwards. I can't place my finger on why, the graphics were great and the gameplay hadn't changed. I was simply bored by the game and playing more than a level at a time was a chore.
However after the first few chapters the game change the tempo and I became enthralled. The fight against the first lord of shadow was when it started but it was when vampires finally joined the fray that I started to find it difficult to put the pad down.
Let me repeat something I just said in case you think it's a typo. Yes, you have to wait for vampires in a Castlevania game. I'm all for changes and some games (Resident Evil 4) have shown how it can be done. However, in the case of Lords of Shadow it damages the feel of the game.
My other criticisms of the game are the camera and the Wanda and the Colossus rip-off moments. The camera is fixed and the usual problem of being hit by off screen enemies occurs, though it isn't game breaking or unusual for the genre. What did annoy me was the almost constant 'shaky cam' that occurred during the game. It added nothing to the game and actually irritated the hell out of me at first.
The colossus fights work the same as those from Wanda and the Colossus but something is missing. They don't have the challenge or sense of awe that you find in Team Ico's game.
To finish on a positive note, I did enjoy the game once I got past the first few chapters and look forward to incoming DLC. Overall the gameplay is good, though not original and the graphics are great. I also found the story to be entertaining and the voice acting to be surprisingly good (unless they were called Patrick Stewart ;p).
The opening level which was used as the demo on XBL is entertaining, but I found my enjoyment dropped sharply afterwards. I can't place my finger on why, the graphics were great and the gameplay hadn't changed. I was simply bored by the game and playing more than a level at a time was a chore.
However after the first few chapters the game change the tempo and I became enthralled. The fight against the first lord of shadow was when it started but it was when vampires finally joined the fray that I started to find it difficult to put the pad down.

Very good
I tried but I can't love this game. It has great graphics, good story and a nice gameplay. But there's nothing really innovator. Well, nowadays everything has a copy of something. And since I love GoW and Shadow of The Colossus so much, I can't consider Castlevania a masterpiece. However, don't get me wrong: I think it's a very good game and I do recommend.

The Konami classic masterpiece comes to PS3 with awesome visual effects and high definition sound quality. Lords of Shadow: Special Edition (Japanese) with Limited Edition (North American) comparision
Actually the item presented on this page is the second copy of the game I own.
First one is NA Limited Edition, which looks like a beautiful book starting with 38 pages of marvelous "Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Artwork Compendium" (divided to Key Art, Character Art, Enemy Art and Concept Art chapters), Lords of Shadow soundtrack section (containing the actual CD, track list and production info for it) and finally the game section with black'n'white booklet (which is useless 16 pages / 3 languages short instruction without any artwork) and the game itself. It worth its price and feels pretty neat and elegant. Be careful since the book cover could be easily scratched losing its cool look. However if you keep it inside its package cover it will protect it from wear and tear. Personally I enjoyed the game a lot, so I've decided to buy myself another copy with the different voiceover (I would like to hear both english and japanese acting for this beautiful and compelling story).
The Japanese Special Edition package is twice thicker than the one mentioned above. Its palette is slightly darker than NA package but it still looks cool all right. Inside resides a standard PS3 game box with the game and 24 pages colorful booklet (introducing some characters and explaining gameplay aspects of the game in a way better manner than NA edition booklet does). Beside it there is a DVD case with the original soundtrack inside (same as the NA edition have). And right next to it resides "The Art of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow" artbook with its 72 pages of glory which contains most of the artwork from the game and which is beautiful in every meaning of the word except one - it's too compact. Seriously, the art of Castlevania Lords of Shadow is so deep and original that it definitely deserves a better treat. I hope we'll see Lords of Shadows Official Complete Works someday. Also there is a coupon for Japanese PSN for PSone classics Akumajo Dracula X ~Gekka No Nocturne~ (known also as Castlevania: Symphony of the Night) digital download.

The DS and gameboy titles really do it right. This tries, but is a different beast. It feels like Sony's GOW a lot, though the setting and character is better. The power up system works nice, though it's a long game and feels a little slow.

Enjoyable experience
This game has been taking a lot of my time since I've got it. I am really enjoying the environments and the graphics are nicely done. I enjoy the puzzle aspects of this game and the boss fights are challenging, but in a unique way. Also I am enjoying the soundtrack very much.
The mash and bash fighting system does get a better repetitive, but its still fun.

Games such as Devil May Cry, God of War, Dante's Inferno and the like are often mentioned in association with this game and with each other. Best 3D Castlevania so far ...
i was a fan of the PS2 Castlevanias such as Lament of Innocence, but this Castlevania has set a new bar for other 3D castlevania games to try and pass , i would give it a 5star review , but sadly the only thing holding it back is the Music , while good , it does not capture the Castlevania feel.

great game. worth the money you're spending here. you get over 20 hours of game play. A cleaver and creative rebooting for the franchises. and all what you have read above is absolutely true.
PS. it's a 2 DVD game on the XBOX 360.

The game is challenging and action packed. The puzzles don't break the flow of the game and the fighting system and combos keep the battles interesting. It is very engrossing and stays that way to the end.

For some this might not be the Castlevania they remember and love, but don't deny it on that alone.

Not a bad game so far. I will enjoy it more when I have more time to play. Great visuals and easy enough to pick up and start playing.
The only real problem for me is the jerkiness of the camera. It feels like it has been filmed by a person with parkinsons. Aside from that, good game!

Slash Em Up
Loved this game the whip chain is amazing and with a stunning array of combos!
The fixed camera thing wasn't so much an issue but the invisible walls were kind of annoying at times, but over all great game.

A Castlevania reboot that works
With strong visuals, exceptional voice acting and solid combat; Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is the first iteration of the series that actually works in 3 dimensions. For those that love God of War and Devil May Cry, Castlevania:LoS is a must buy.

The best 3d castlevania by far, nice work from Mercurysteam and Konami who somehow managed to respect the spirit of the serie and add an occidental touch, the hard fan might be a little disapointed, but this said the game still extremely enjoyable, with good graphiques, a gameplay above the average, and a story quite long and pretty entertaining, and for a first try this is realy promising for the future of the saga.

This is one of the most surprising Castlevania games I have ever played. It takes the brand to a new level, combining proen game play form other brawlers and plattform games to create something that fits the world of Castlevania perfectly.
It's long, quite challenging, always rewarding. I would have loved a classical castlevania soundtrack, so I'll take one star off the top rating.

Konami should have started a new franchise with Lords of Shadow, because, aside some loose connections, it isn't Castlevania. Fans of Castlevania, like me, may be a little disappointed, but if you play Lords of Shadow for what it is, you will find a good action adventure game.

Castlevania stems from the likes of God of War, DMC and Uncharted. it's an awesome adventure that will keep you hooked! The combat is tight and rewarding, the story will keep you guessing til the very end and the graphics will have you saying"wow" over and over again! Fantastic Game
Great game, mix between god of war action and uncharted exploring. The voice acting and story line are excellent. Gameplay never gets repetative as there is a large range of combos and up upgrades to earn throughout the game. The game also proves to be difficult at times which is good meaning it is not to easy to finish. If your also one of those players that likes to complete everthing, then this game is great for that it has a large amount of replayabilty. As a fan of the old Castlevania games though I was a bit disapointed that they did not implement the ability to level up, and being able to buy and sell weapons. Overall Still a great game under the Castlevania franchise.

Awesome game!
The graphics are great, the athmosphere is awesome and the gameplay is tight. A must-own for any melee game fans who love a great adventure with awesome story-telling. A good combination!

A big disappointment.
As a huge Castlevania fan, I had two layers of expectations for this game. First, I was hoping for a game true to the franchise. Second, I was hoping for a great action game. If I got both, I'd have been ecstatic. If I only got one, I'd have been pleased. Unfortunately, this game gave me neither.
There is almost nothing tying this game to the older games of either the action or adventure type. The pacing is very stop and start. The music is nice but really not up to the established high standards of the series. The story is pretty stupid, but that's nothing unusual for the series, so I don't hold that against it.
The game suffers from a myriad of technical problems. Framerate is consistently hovering in the mid to low 20s, sometimes dipping into the teens during busy segments. The camera (which is not controllable) is of the shakeycam variety, which can make a person feel queasy. There are invisible walls a-plenty, and it's not very clear where they are or are not, which can lead to confusing progression and awkward jumps. Most egregiously, there is a glitch on the PS3 version where the game will sometimes crash and corrupt your save file. If you don't back up your save on a USB stick religiously, you can lose an awful lot of progress.

Great Replayability!
I was intrigued by the trailers for Lords of Shadow which conveyed a compelling story and rich cinematic promise. ALthough the story has not been as fulfilling as I had hoped, the gameplay has been much more rewarding than I could have hoped.
It plays a lot like Uncharted, pressing from one point to the next. Not really a lot of freedom, but a thrilling experience.
The replayability is stunning! I've already replayed several stages before finishing the game. Just the right level of challenge, I am thinking I would like to platinum this game. I really like it a lot, I hope you do too.

not bad for the new team
the game is nice, graphic is good. User Interface Design is very attractive, music is just so so. Story need more works, and debug need more works. Overall, unlike the previous canstlevanias, but compare to dante may cry, I can still accept this game as worth for playing.

never play any of the series before so have no expectations for this game, but has met my expectations and provides a fun 15-20 hours of fun gameplay that while it may get repetative still remains fun throughout the story. the graphics are the most impressive part of the game, with visuals blowing me away with what they created sadly alot of the environment remains closed due to the linear nature of the game. controls feel fluid, take a few hr to get use to but works well.
