Online play is a must
This is along side the best games ive played this year... or for many years! The game doesnt start off to hard but that changes very quickly, it soon becomes one of the most challenging games you'll play this year. Online is a must as you can leave "helpful" or otherwise notes for players as well as invite players in to help them out or invade their world to steal their body and return your own!

The Best RPG on PS3 so far
Well i can start to say thanks to Atlus (Publisher of Demon's Souls) that they've published a great game and to playasia.com that i have the chance to preordered and bought the Deluxe Edition... At first you will be confused on how the game play is but with the strategy guide or doing research you'll get through with it, the game itself is unique haven't played like this one before and for sure all Deluxe owners will say it's worth every penny especially with the artbook and soundtrack.

The only negative part of this review is that the Strategy Guide Cover wears of easily.

One of a kind.
A must have RPG for the PS3, a game that will test your patients but will reward those who stick with it past the learning curve with a enjoyable experience unlike any other Japanese RPG.

Awesome game, but get standard edition
The Deluxe edition comes with the guidebook. There is a wikia site for Demon's Souls that has much more information than the guide, and standard edition comes with the artbook + CD combo as well. Don't worry about missing out if you came late for the Deluxe, this game is awesome, and all the help you need to master is can be found online!

Definite Buy
Demon's Souls is a definite must have for PS3. It features very unique features especially it's online component. Whether you intend to play it single player or online, you will greatly enjoy this RPG. It's like a mix between Monster Hunter (gameplay) and Diablo (layout).

RPG of the Decade
Demons Souls, this is the single most original and respected RPG I have had the pleasure to play in many years.

Games have started to get easier over the last decade. This game is the exception to that rule. You will not find hand holding tips, nice checkpoints, second chances, the ability to pause in combat or any moments to let your guard down. THIS GAME IS HARD. It is not, however, cheap. You never feel as if you have been ripped off, the game teaches you as you die, over and over again.

I have not had so much fun dying in a game for a long time. Sure, you lose your souls (which are used as the games currency) but you gain from the experience the skills to tackle the way you died, or, simply go another way.

The game is completely non-linear and open to explore at your peril. The online component is absolutely original in that you can view others deaths, see other peoples ghosts wandering around and even be summoned to battle with other gamers, summon other gamers to your game or invade others games scaring them and stealing their souls.

This originality, challenge, depth and amazing graphics and sound make DEMONS SOULS one of the best games I have ever had the joy to play and the best RPG I have played in over a decade.

Awsonely Rewarding
Demon's Souls is truly a PS3 must-have. Once you passed your learning curve, which should only taka 1-2 hours, and you have nice control of your character, it's time to fight demon's like you mean it!
Brillian game-play, highly addictive and, if you're any form of RPG fan, then you shouldn't miss this game.
I found Play-Asia's dispatching time upon purchase for the Deluxe Edition was substantialy shorter then the stadard, so I opted for deluxe, and am I glad I did.
The addition of the strategy guide is priceless, coupled with the quick shipping, this purchase is one I'm definately not remorseful about.

Casual gamers need not apply
Let me get this out of the way first: this game is HARD. REALLY hard. Mind-numbingly hard. Ninjas-go-to-your-home-and-kill-your-puppy hard.

That said, it's hands down one of the best games I've gotten to play in a while. It's practically flawless, from the sheer feel of it (Dark Ages-style medieval fans will drool ceaselessly over the atmosphere) down to the little details.

First, a little background. There's this kingdom called Boletaria. Its King goes nuts wanting power. So he foolishly awakens a critter known as the Old One (Cthulhu much?) which will swallow all the world if left unchecked. See, this critter eats souls, which are in turn fed to it by its Demons. You, like many before, head to Boletaria in an attempt to slay them (because when they die, the Demon's souls can be harvested for great power). You get your ass kicked and are sent to the Nexus, the center of all this mess, and sent by a woman known only as the Maiden in Black to slay other demons so you can be revived and GTFO. The point of it is, once the Old One runs out of waiters, it can call you to your side so the Maiden can sing it a lullaby (almost literally).

The first point for the game's atmosphere: only the bosses get soundtracks. For the entire game, each and every world has no BGM whatsoever - the only background sound you get to hear are the moans and groans of your many, many, many enemies. This makes the BGM for each boss that much more impacting. They're beautifully orchestrated too - every boss fight feels like an epic battle, some with a more sneaky feel like the Fool's Idol, and others with grand, climactic holy-crap-that's-the-last-boss effects like the False King.

You have a myriad ways to dispatch your enemies, but you require fair amounts of skill in order to do so. While you CAN wield a weapon two-handed for more damage, you'll rarely employ this method, as even the weakest enemy can and WILL give you a run for your money given the chance. Healing items are scarce until you can secure an appropriate supply of souls and a vendor. Though the game has classes, each class only determines your initial attributes, soul level and starting equipment - thus, it's easier to start off with some rather than others. Despite this, all characters can do the same things, but they perform differently in each area depending on how you build them.

Whenever you kill a boss, you are revived and gain his Demon's Soul. Each Demon's Soul will either provide you with a new spell (or several - thus, if you want every spell, you'll have to finish the game multiple times) or a new weapon (once you're able to upgrade better weapons by giving a certain NPC a specific Demon's Soul). When you're alive, you enjoy full HP - but you also draw more attention to yourself. The opposite is true in Soul Form (you enjoy only half your normal HP, barring use of a certain equipment, but you're sneakier). Be wary of dying in body form - whenever you do this, the world you're in actually gets tougher, though the rewards do become better as well.

If you're a hardcore gamer and have been looking for an old-school hard game, buy this now. By the time you're done, you'll be in therapy asking why the game developers make their games so easy these days.

Yeah, this game will chew you up and spit you out, without blinking.

A must have
Demons Soul's is awesome in every way. One of the best RPGs I played.
The graphics are really good, but actually you won't even notice that all the time. The game is so imersive that you'll play for hours without knowing, even when you die (this will happen A LOT, seriously).

The history is not so great, but thats not really a problem for me in this case. The rest of the game pay off.
Even if you are not a fan of RPGs you should check Demons Soul's. Just be prepared because its not an easy game. You'll get used to the deaths eventually.

Good, game, but a little overhyped.
After reading a lot of froth on this game I picked it up expecting it to be better than the second coming. As it is, it's a decently fun game, hard and unforgiving which is okay, but I found the controls to not be as tight as I was expecting.
It *is* a good game, but I think people get a little wrapped up in telling each other how great it is, and expectations are then too high.

Game of the year no doubt!!
Demon's souls is one of the best games i have ever played. I was a bit sceptic after reading about the game and how hard the game was supposed to be, but i ordered the game anyway because of the high praise it was achieving.

After a month and a half of playing, i can honestly say that no game in a long time has given me such satisfaction and a sense of progressive accomplishment.

The graphics are great, with an art style and environemnts that actually make u feel like you are in that world, and that your not just playing a game, but living it! The last game to give me that feeling was shadow of colossus.

The game play is simple to pick up but challenging to master, with so much to offer u can be playing this game for months. You will die alot in the game, but this will force you to play the game with a smart thinking approach, and and planning your journey, rather than mindless running and gunning/attacks. The joy u get in defeating a boss or getting to a certain level is unparalleled.

I have no faults at all with this game, and i believe if u give this game a chance u will be feeling the same as me. There is no other game like this and i haven't even discussed the revolutionary online component , which is unique and amazing. This is the ultimate rpg this gen, and i hope everyone who has a ps3 gets to experience it.

Great Game
Demons Souls slipped past my radar and I never knew of it's existence until recently, after reading much about it and reading a lot of reviews I decided to pick it up.

As far as RPG's go this is one of the best for this generation, PS3 is very short on them and it is a welcome addition to it's library.

Demon's Souls is a difficult game but not to difficult, it can sometimes be cruel and unforgiving but at the same time rewarding, you learn from your mistakes and many deaths :) but the sense of achievement when completely a level or beating one of the many bosses is great.

Graphically, while not up there with the best PS3 has to offer it still holds it's own, the level design and art direction is very unique and draws you in, giving you a sense of immersion.

Sound wise, while the sound effects and ambient noises are quite good, the game itself is usually played in a silent background with no music, admittedly constant music can be quite annoying but this game has practically none.

Overall, anyone who enjoys RPG's should definitely pick this game up, once you get passed the initial difficulty the game is very rewarding and very unique.

Painfully Addictive
WARNING: DO NOT GET THIS GAME IF YOU HAVE DEADLINES OR EXAMS!!!

This game literally eats your time, and the incentive to play again and again with harder difficulties and with special events you may not see your first play through.

Do not worry about the difficulty, it is hard but doable. Also you will find that this game gives a sense of achievement upon completing levels unlike other games which are easier or allow saving every three steps.

This game came shipped to Australia with no problems and played straight out of the box, definitely recommended to other Australian gamers who cant wait for the eventual Australian release.

I addimit, this game is beautiful. The controller and fighting action are a little hard to get used...well HARD is THE word for the game but yeah its a great game!

Demon's Souls
Underated, challenging, fun game with beautifull visuals and amazing soundtrack. One of the best games I've ever played, Online mode is unique and great. Only few games are as rewarding and challenging as Demon's Souls.

A great RPG game
It´s a great game. The graphycs are excellents, a lot of beautiful landscape. The gameplay is very good, but, some times, the lock camera can disorder a little.
The online mod is good, but they could doit more. Instead of ghost of another players, they could let us see other players figthyng and even talk to then. But, the online mod can help you a lot when you are lost in what to do or a little help from other players to kill a demon.
I do not play versus mod, so i whont talk about, but its seens to be verry good.
The game is not so hard as they talk a bout. If you mastered the combat skills and study the enemy, you will be just fine. It's very important to upgrade your weapons, too. It can be a little frustrated some times. When you die and have to go all way back to get your soul and this can be a pain in the ass.
Overall, i think is one of the best RPG-action games for PS3, if not the best. You can lost a lot of hour in this fantastic journey.

Demon's Souls
Extremely difficult at first but is very rewarding in the end. The graphics are wonderful. The music and voice acting is good. The online gameplay mechanics are brilliant. Replayability is very good. The game has a good character customization and has great character growth system.

Keep in mind that when we say difficult, we mean it. Demon's Souls is a very good and challenging game and is a must have for every PS3 owners.

Not your average RPG game

Solid action rpg
Early screenshots I saw of Demon's Souls were pretty off-putting, featuring 'next gen brown' visuals. Fortunately, it's far better looking than I first thought.

Huge outdoor areas, difficult - though not impossible - boss fights and a great hub system for level selection.

If you only buy one RPG this year make it Demon's Souls.

Demon's Souls is all everyone's been saying, and much more. This game will test your skills, learning and adaptability capacity, as well as your strategy planning!

Graphics: The eerie atmosphere is created - and maintaned - through very beautiful and detailed graphics. Textures are sharp when necessary; animations are fantastic and also extremely necessary, since the combat follows real-world physics (the battle animations indicate if your sword hit the wall instead of a foe, etc). The character design is impressive and refreshing, with some crazy bosses.

Audio: Outstanding. There's no overall music, besides the nexus and boss fights. The rest of the time, it's silence, with only the sound of steps, armour and weapons, magic spells and the roars of enemies. You can often take cues from enemies' sounds. The audio is probably the biggest contribution to the general atmosphere of the game.

Gameplay: Well, this is it. Demon's Souls excels in the gameplay department, with very balanced equipment and magic. Controls are extremely responsive, and you'll need them to be, for you can die in a split second. The game is hard but not cheap; you can be sure that whenever you die, you'll learn from it and take one more step toward mastering the game.

Equipment plays a vital role, and as soon as you get the gist of the game, you'll be wanting more and more of it. And trust me, the game will give back to you - in spades.

Online mode: simply fantastic. The way From Software integrated online is novel and will completely change your perception of the game. Helping others is a lot of fun, and being invaded - or invading someone's game - is a thrilling, exhilarating experience. You have to experience it to believe.

Overall: Great game. Definitely the sleeper hit of 2009. The trophies add immense replayability to the game. The online component is very immersive, as you can't communicate with other players besides using emotes. Writing and reading messages is a great way to help/be helped. In short, this game could be considered, so far, the best rpg of this generation.

Note: The deluxe edition is not only very beautiful, but the guide is very necessary for whoever wants to fully understand the mechanics - especially for those commited to get the trophies.

I got my copy from Play-Asia in a few weeks (3 to say it) with the preorder bonus and in a very good condition.
That's all that matter for me!

The game is clearly difficult but if you bought it you already know that.
If you have a PS3, you must have it!

5 Star RPG
Great Action-RPG, in fact it is the best RPG available on the playstation so far, the only thing to look out for is the steep initial learning difficulty, but after about an hour or two you get a feel for it.

I recommend it to every RPG fan, just do not take this game lightly otherwise it will make quick work of you!

Deluxe edition
The deluxe edition of Demon's Souls is a nice package. The strategy guide is a reasonable introduction to the game without being too heavy handed but the question of value is difficult to answer. If you're looking to save money, stick to the standard edition but if you to spend extra on your collection, this deluxe edition will give you something a little more useful than the average artbook and protective sleeve. The hard sleeve the game and book fit into is embossed and looks great on the shelf, and the strategy guide is definitely a useful addition to the game.

Challenging, but still a great game.
I had heard nothing but good things about Demon's Souls, so when I bought my PS3 I knew I needed to get this.

I can understand how people could be turned off by the difficulty, but those who have stuck through will be able to tell you just how unique and amazing it really is.

This game is HARD! You have been warned.
This game is merciless in its difficulty! If you die, you get a chance to recover any loot you lost in spirit form, but it becomes harder! It frustrates me to tears and yet... I can't stop playing it! Whenever I die, it always feels like the result of my own lack of skill or experience, it rarely feels unfair. You do naturally improve and you always feel like a total bad-ass when you defeat one of the bosses despite the odds. A great game!

awesome game!
This game is really great. Like many people say it's hard, but it's not a frustrating hard. I'd say it's enough to keep you excited and concentrated all the time, even when you have over 30 hours of gameplay and already know all the places.
The graphics are very good. The monsters design are awesome.The music helps create the atmosphere and the gameplay is perfect. Everything an action RPG fan would ask for.
The only downside is the lack of story. But this kind of game doesn't really need a strong narrative. Like the early Zelda, it's a linear story with dungeons in the way of you goal. Just simple.

For these and many reasons I can't even describe that this game is a must-buy and, for me, Game of the Year.

The game is real treat to play. Was killed on the first time, now in Nexus. Now analyzing how to play then. During the first minutes saw such beautiful wolds that I've never seen before in video games. It will last (the play I mean) for several months. And that is good.

This game is as good as this is difficult. The graphics are excellent, the gameplay is too good at the point to make the game difficult as some. And the game is hard because it is just hard, not by programming errors as in other games where the CPU seems to cheat us. I liked it too, best buy of the year! A challenge well worth the frustration
If you are one of those gamers that just doesn't get the most out of their games unless they have to work horrendously hard for what they want, then you will enjoy this quite a bit. I will warn though, that while this game IS quite difficult, being a thief type character may make the game easier than many have stated. Every boss I've fought, except for two of them, has been EXTREMELY easy because of a certain accessory that keeps you from being detected. Though, this helpful trinket, isn't NEARLY as helpful when dealing with regular enemies...and falling. That is one thing that you will probably encounter the most; falling to your imminent death.

If you can get through dying numerous times, then you will get to experience the amazing world that From Software has developed for us. You'll also get to experience an online experience like no other. People from all over, leaving messages behind and even their own death sequence to either help/hinder you. The ability to help someone else get back their body. Or even the ability to invade others' games. Which, fortunately can only be done if the invaded had used a certain item first.

I will say that the music is really nothing special as far as I've been. But, the ambience and sound effects are amazing. Sometimes even a little creepy at times.

Now, for the plot: So far, it's really not anything to write home about. I haven't beat the game yet, so I can't completely say whether it will get better in that aspect or not, but that's not really the reason I enjoy this game so much anyways. I enjoy the grueling difficulty, ambience and customization. The plot is just kind of on the side burner for me. If there was more concentration on plot, and if bosses weren't so susceptible to that one accesory, then I could have given this a full five stars rating.

Not for the weak hearted
Letting you know up front, Demon's soul's is probably the hardest game you'll ever play.
However
it is probably one of the most enjoyable aswell.
There is so much depth to the game that though you may find yourself frustrated for a wrong turn or a careless mistake, you'll keep wanting to progress deeper down.
My only advice would be get the stratergy guide aswell.. it'll help alot

Demon's Soul BEST PS3 GAME YET
i just received my copy a couple of days ago, and i got to say OMG!..i thought games like this got lost in this generation of consoles BUT man! Demon's Soul is akin to old school gaming where its not going to hold your hand all the way, you should expect to die..LOTS!

its true that Demon's Soul is hard but its not the kind where you dont want to play it anymore, its a game where you would come back again and again just because you want to better yourself, and once you better yourself theres a certain satisfaction in it

and coupled this with the great moody and dark atmosphere, this game is a gem

honestly i got this game just a couple of days after i got Uncharted 2 and i never touched that game since i played Demon's Soul..and thats saying something when its compared to obviously one of the best PS3 games as well..

One of the best PS3 titles this year!
If your into Monsters and Dragons...Swords and Magic, this game is for you. This game is amazing and very challenging, although it is challenging if you die it is just your fault. The game is not cheap, its just hard. That being said, if you are not a patient gamer/person you will not be able to play this game. If your not up to die over and over to learn how to play the game this game is not for you. If you are one of these people, then check out the game because it is a good time!

A Never-End Challenging Game
When I saw this game trailer, I was sceptically thought that this game will be no different than Devil May Cry series or next Dante's Inferno for delivering dark and gloomy world of adventure.

But I was wrong, Demon's Souls turn out to be uncommonly hard to play RPG. Yes, you will scream in frustration every time your hero get slashed for making wrong move when encountering enemies throughout the game. But what makes me to return to this game are:
1. The design of the worlds in this game which is immense and very detail.
2. The enemy which come in so many variation of design and behaviors
3. The assortment of weapons and magics that will spurs curiosity. By the way each weapon has its own swing style, so you never get bored easily when experimenting with them.

Demons Souls is a must have game for the ps3. The game has an extremely dark and almost oppressive atmosphere which keeps the player on constant edge. While this game is challenging in parts, its is a game that rewards a player who practices and is willing to improve. This game is not the sort of hard game that just makes you feel cheated. It's a game that deserves your money and we've all bought games we regret this isn't one of them. The Deluxe edition is really nice the artbook is great and the guide is helpfull haven't listened to the soundtrack by itself but the sound in game is very good and adds to the immersion

Sleeper Hit RPG for PS3
A good action RPG from Japanese developer seemed too far inbetween coming in to current generation. This is all about to end with Demon's Souls.

The game doesn't really have a good first impression, but underneath it is the addictive gameplay mechanism that'll eat in to numerous hours without you realising it.

From software have crafted a technically interesting title with great visual design and online implementation that'll make you feel like playing an MMO without actually playing one.

Combat is elaborative where it provides actual strategies in your button presses, and heavy risk & reward system makes every moment of your gaming hours that much exciting and satisfying.

Biggest challenge to most would be the high learning curve and difficulty in the beginning hours of the game, but those who will give it a chance will find an innovative action JRPG that'll provide endless amount of fun and challenge.

Ahhh.. I originally bought the Japanese copy by mistake ages back and then had to buy the Chinese one as I was lost without the menu being in English. I now have bought this one the Deluxe as I wanted the art book and guide. It's brilliant. I Love this game to death. I do wish the print quality was a little better but man for money its wicked. I'm wrapped. To anyone who loves quality RPG's. BUY THIS GAME!! you wont regret it.

One word… Outstanding!!! Demon’s Souls is easily one of the best RPGs out there on the PS3... Also, a game which many will not enjoy unless you have the patience and love towards RPGs.

Gameplay: 10/10

This is where Demon’s Souls shines. The gameplay is perfect. Yes, the game is hard, but not frustrating, which is the difference between loving and hating the game. Even though the game is hard there are no cheap deaths. And you have no one to blame but yourself for your death. The controls feel great and responsive and as you level up your character gets stronger and once you get a hang of the controls you will be killing enemies without any trouble. In Demon’s Souls you are rewarded with souls for killing every enemy. You need souls for everything, from buying weapons, healing items to leveling up. So, one has to be careful while spending souls. There is no save option that is the game automatically saves everything you do and if you die you will have to replay the entire level and all enemies respawn. This even though sounds frustrating is a good thing, as this will help you get better in the game. One more thing you need to remember is that every time you die you lose all your souls and you will have start over and make it to the spot you died earlier and touch your bloodstain to regain all the lost souls, but if you die while you are on your way to your bloodstain, you lose your souls for good. There will be no way to get them back.

Graphics: 8/10

Graphically Demon’s Souls is not the best in the market. But it does a fair job with the animation and the textures. Even though the character models don’t look great up-close, it’s the draw distance and the intense atmosphere which will make you overlook the not so great graphics.

Story: 9/10

Demon’s Souls is not a story driven game. There is a story but it’s pretty straight forward. Usually RPG’s need to heavily story driven, but this is one rare RPG where in the story takes a backseat to the gameplay and atmosphere. Demon’s Souls is all about the atmosphere and you trying to survive the enemy onslaught.

Sound: 9/10

The voice acting and the music is just mind blowing. The music does add to the atmosphere of the game, making it easily one of the most intense atmospheric games ever created.

Multiplayer: 9/10

Demon’s Souls has a unique multiplayer feature where you can either summon other players to help you out or invade other player’s game and kill them, which has its own effects on the game. There is also a brilliant in game help system where you can leave hints for other player and warn them of what’s in store.

Longevity: 9/10

This game is not a long game. You have 16 locations and 1 boss at the end of each location. On the first run you will have to build your character which will take a lot of time as a result you will take anywhere between 40-50 hrs on your first run. But on your second and third run you can finish the game in under 15hrs. On the second run onwards you get to carry forward all your weapons and upgrades, also, the enemies tend to get tougher on every playthrough.

Overall: 9/10

Easily recommendable to any RPG fan. If u love playing RPG then this is one game you should not miss.

Must Have Action RPG
This is one of the best Action RPGs available on the PS3.

Do not be put off by the English/Chinese language version. The written english (subtitles, menus and descriptions) is very good with only a couple of trivial errors. All of the audio is available in English.

The game is tough and you will die often, but it is very rewarding. You customize your character by purchasing attribute points with your gathered souls (experience), and choose equipment to compliment that. The graphics and sound are decent, but the real enjoyment is in the game play. There are some minor frustrations with the auto targeting system, but not enough for me to drop the rating to 4 stars. The game will take 15+ hours for your first run through depending on your skill level, but you cannot collect all the spells and weapons until you replay the game. Each time you finish the game and start again the difficulty increases however you retain your level and equipment.

I strongly recommend this game to anyone that enjoys Action RPGs, be prepared for an enjoyable challenge.

I made the mistake of buying the Japanese version but played anyway as the voice acting was still English but the menu's and booklet were in Japanese. I played as long as I could until I decided to just go and buy the Korean version as the menu's and (Insert) booklet is in English. Man I'm glad I did I had to start from scratch with the Korean version but I didnt mind because I could actually make an informed decision on class and stats. This game has many jaw dropping moments.. I will buy the limited edition as well when It's released.

Must Own Game!
How can one describe a game such as this one. Amazing. Masterful. No word can justify just how impressive of a package this is. Set in a medieval style world, you are one of many heroes on a quest to find the demon's souls and free the land from hell's grasp.

This game deviates from typical jrpg's by introducing an innovative take on drop in drop out multiplayer. Players take the form of either souls or bodies. Souls can be summoned from their worlds into another players game to help out. Upon completing or defeating a boss this soul is then given a body back to use as he sees fit. However not all souls are good, players known as black phantom's can break into other player's worlds and kill the host for a nice bounty.

Following similar gameplay to that of zelda, player move in 3rd person and control rolling, parrying and strike with O and shoulder buttons.

With over 100 hours of gameplay, and a max level cap of 712, this game offers quality and length to any type of gamer.

Yes you will die a lot, but once you understand how different weapons/tactics work on different monsters then it becomes easy. Also a lot of the time you need to grind a map to level up in order to make it past other places. The beginning is the hardest part because you cant level up until you make it past the first section. But just Upgrade your weapons and any part becomes much easier.

I usually get bored quick with games but the difficulty, stunning graphics and RPG elements in the game made it impossible to put down.

Best game of this generation
The most amazing thing about this game is that while being extremely hard it's also extremely fair. I've never felt cheated playing it. When you die, you always know, what mistake you've made, so the game expects you to correct it, and, since you already know what to do, makes things a bit harder, reducing your health and strengthening enemies. So it's hard. But it's never cheap.
I must also mention the incredible weapon physics. It's the best simulation of cold weapon combat I've ever seen in a videogame. You really feel those weapons, unlike waving a stick in Oblivion. Look, I can keep describing it's gorgeous Gothic design, absolutely original and scary monsters, incredibly large and detailed world, PvP and coop system, which makes other players the most dangerous demons, and one boss is actually a... No, I'll stop here. No spoilers, no time wasting, just buy it. Order it now. It's better than Diablo, Oblivion, Gothic. I can't possibly imagine someone regretting such a purchase.
Oh, and make sure you're buying Asia version. It has full English language support. By the way, voice acting is really impressive. It's the first time old English in a game sounds really authentic.

This game is my favourite game so far this year. The asia version is completely in english, text, voices, trophies are all in english.

The game is best played co op online, and at times feels like an mmorpg when played this way. Extremely addictive and will keep you entertained for months.

One of the best Action-RPGs ever made.
Demon's Souls hates you with every fibre of its being. You will die, frequently and painfully... and you won't be able to stop playing. It's one of the best games of this console generation, without a doubt. Everything in there is an A+; The story is solid (told mostly through environment and atmosphere), the combat is simple, satisfying, and brutal, the level of customization and differentiation between characters is very high, and the game is very replayable.

Oh, and did I mention it's bloody gorgeous? It's definitely not a graphical powerhouse from a technical point-of-view, but FROM Software has done great things with light and shadow to create a grim and foreboding atmosphere.

So go buy it! Or if you're in North America, wait for the NA release coming out soon (with some bonus content).

While i was initially warned about the cruel difficulty of the game, i am really glad i got it. Very immersive and its not bogged down by a storyline.
It s meant to be played again and again. The combat is awesome and level design is superior to most games. Also the PvsP element is awesome....you can summon other players into the game for help or players can break in and try to assasinate you (and your helpers too). Monsters and demons are very cool and some epic fights await you. Weapons and magic & armor are highly detailed. A MUST HAVE FOR PS3 OWNERS!

Be warned, this game is hard. Incredibly hard. It will leave you beaten black and blue and crying for mommy. This is old school style dungeon crawling on new school systems. If you like this type of game you NEED to get this right away, but if you've never played them be cautious.

Incredible Experience
This game has skyrocketed to Game of the Year for me in 2009. I love it enough that I've fully paid off my pre-order of the Deluxe Edition from Atlus.

I used Play-Asia affiliation funds to get the game free, and I've put about 30 hours if not more into the adventure.

Scared of the difficulty? Don't be. I was originally, but I've learned that if you pace yourself, and figure out strategies for different enemies, the game isn't as cruel as it sounds. If you have 50,00 souls and you die, you have the opportunity to make it back to your bloodstain to regain those souls. You already know what to expect, so you have a fair chance. Use your souls whenever you can, don't stockpile for too long, otherwise you take that chance of losing them.

The visuals are stunning, however I'm still in standard-definition. That being said, this is the most visually impressive game in SD, so I can't even imagine how beautiful it is in high-definition. Sounds are spot on, from the high winds on a clifftop, to the "whish" of an arrow flying at you.

The environments are extremely varied from one another, and each level has numerous areas that vary from one another as well. The enemies are wonderfully designed, and very original in some cases.

You will find yourself re-playing levels over and over, but for some odd reason, it never gets old, and it always seems to remain fun.

If you're looking for a challenge, with so much depth and gameplay, Demon's Souls is definitely for you. Import it, or support Atlas for the local release, or do both as I have done. It's definitely worth your time and money.

Got this game a few days ago, played 10+ hours straight.
It is hard at some points, at some points it's very hard, but still it's very interesting, and the gameplay doesn't get boring after you run at the same level for the 20th time.

Best Action RPG for the PS3
I received my copy from Play-Asia only in couple of days which is great. It is all in English except the manual which is written in Chinese.

The game it self presents a long gameplay which continues even after the ending as a part of the plot. It is true that the gameplay is not easy but once you master the fighting style of each weapon (that are entirely different from each other) and your magic/miracle/stealth skills game opens up. You have to consider lots of factors while you are facing your opponents like the enviroment and not being outnumbered. So this is not a traditional hack and slash where you kill almost everything quite easily. You can customize your characters look and class. Skill point system gives you the freedom to create pure melee characters or melee-magic/miracle hybrids and stealth characters.

But the best part of the Demon's Souls is not only its realistic combat approach but its unique online system. In Demon's Souls your character is entrapped within the Nexus where you can play alive or play as a soul after you die. While you are alive (or revived in game terms) other players can invade your game and try to slay you as Black Phantoms. You can also summon other players to aid you in that world. While in soul form you can either help other players or try to kill them. In other words every player in the game exist in a parallel dimension of the same world and they can breach the boundries separating them and enter other players worlds. Because of the acknowledged diffuculty of the game you will want to get help from other players and try to protect yourself from the inviding Black Phantoms.

To sum up this game represents a solid, challenging gameplay and a very unique online experience. This is a must have for all RPG fans.

Grabbed this game a short while back and hated it at first because the learning curve is massive!! You WILL get owned again and again!... But wait!...

Initially it looks as if you can hack and slash your way through but even the simplest and weakest enemy's are tough and careless thrashing is punished!, BUT! once you start to level and explore the massive world and enjoy the challenge this game totally opens up and it is Amazing!, the bosses/demons are huge and once you kill one you really feel as if you have achieved something. The graphics are some of the best iv seen and the music, voice, weapons, story, aptmosphere are all top notch!.. If you are on the internet the game connects to a server automatically so players can leave messages and drop in and out of worlds easily and quickly, its hard to explain but is extremely original and a great new way to play multiplayer..

To sum up, this game is a nice little gift and a nod of respect to the Japansese who have been famoulsly loyal to Sony and the PS3..
The game is a little stunner and will not see a western release for at least 9months, i'd say with english voice and text (asian ver only) this is a must own game and has solely converted me from 360 to PS3... Buy It!

Super ultra hard Action RPG
Go for this game if you are prepared to play the most difficult and gruesome action RPG ever created (believe me I am not exaggerating).The graphic and everything are cool but the gameplay is so hard.Some say it is satisfying to keep trying to out-smart the enemies (the demons) but some might get tired and bored for having to try the same stage (even the very first stage) again and again. Call me a lame gamer but I have never not pass the first stage of a game on the first night I play it. Therefore my advice, hardcore action RPG gamers, buy this one. However, casual gamer, turn around and run away fast from this one. That's right. As fast as your legs allow you for this game wil chew you and spit you in a jiffy. Period.

The game is simply Amazing. Anyone who is a big Action RPG fan like me must buy this game. I highly recommend this game to anyone who has the patients for a hard and long spent game. awesome hardcore rpg
it is one of the best rpgs i have ever played. i would recommend it to any hardcore rpg player. this is not a traditional rpg tho. you will die a lot and you will replay the same levels over and over and over again. keep that in mind this game is not for everyone.

The game is entirely in english, and the game auto detects your ps3 region, you dont even have to choose the language.
The interface is intuitive and theres a mini guide that explains every stat of your character.
The graphics are awesome, the atmosphere is imersive, and the game is really hard, even the most simples enemies can deal brutal damage to you.

Massive dungeon crawler with great combat depth. Running in sword swinging wont work here. Punishing dificulty at first but once learned, opens up to hours of enjoyment. Plus english voice and text on asia version you cant go wrong.

If you are like me and bought a PS3 long ago thinking "oh I'm sure there will be alot of great RPG games for this in years to come, whata sound long term investment!" and now find yourself playing X360 titles... well this is finally a game that I can say is well worth the wait. This is easily my favorite game to play on PS3 that I have and I have quite a few random titles such as genji: day of the blade, AC4, Valkyria Chronicles and other random PS3 "RPG" titles. This one is by far the best. Beaten now and enjoying the difficulty increases of new game+.

I have been looking for a good RPG type game on my ps3 to play, yet there have been none that really stood out on the level that I was looking for. That was untill I found out about this title. If you dont know anything about this game then look up the trailer on youtube. This game had me hooked! I got my hands on it and its a mature, dark amosphere title full of monsters and insane boss battles. Clasic LV grinding, and is a very challenging game. IF you are looking for something on that scale of a Action/Slasher/Magic Casting/RPG then this is the one that you want. FF13 isnt comming for the US for a long time so this game will more then fill the void with 40+ hrs of gameplay. The game that Fable should have been is Demon's Souls
