The stage is set in Europe around 1930s. In this alternate universe, Europe was split into the “East European Empire Union” and the “Atlantic Ocean federal Organization” and for years and years, these two superpowers have been seeking to unify Europe through a large scale war, named European War II (E.W.II). Heroes often emerge in these chaotic times, and in a small, neutral country, Galia, such a young man came forward to join the fight.
Galia was falling under the onslaught of the Empire's overwhelming forces, but before the enemies could take the capital, Welkin Gunther, the leader of a small army faction thwarted the military giant's plans and entered historical records as a hero.
The screens in the game are filled with a dusky tint, the lines are smooth and the palette is subdued yet warm. Aside from its distinctive graphics, the sounds in the game is just as impressive. The epic storyline coupled with the rich graphics and sounds supported by the third generation consoles creates a world that players immerse themselves fully into.
Senjou no Valkyria is a turn based RPG that combines strategy with action. Proceed with the game the way you read a history book. Read the text and get involved in the battle parts, depending on the options you have chosen or the battles you have fought, the game rewards you with more chapters to your “book”.

Nice surprise Valkyria Chronicles was a nice surprise. It's a great mix of turn based, real time strategic RPG. The cartoon style graphics are very nice, and adds to the charm of the game. I do recommend.

Valkyria Review Valkyria is a great blend of JRPG and Turn Based Strategy. The art style is incredible and the story and gampeplay is hugely satisfying and rewarding. Two bad things about the game is that later levels require a lot of trial and error to complete and there is no save once a battle starts so if you lose after 45 minutes of play, you start from the beginning

High point for sega Sega really does make some excellent games such as this but they have also made terrible terrible decisions such as the recent cut of material from Yakuza 3, the horrible port of Bayonetta for PS3 and the constant release of horrible sonic sequels. But sometimes they do come up with great genius such as with this game. But then they don't advertise this game properly ... Oh sega. Anyways this game will not disappoint and is one of the finest srpgs to come out for some time.

It's a terrible shame. Why? Because it didn't receive as much attention as it should have.
It's interesting, because this game is so similar to those on Facebook of which millions of people play those, yet PS3 owners don't know about an amazing game like this.
While I will admit that it gives off a Japanese game vibe, this does not make it less of a fun game. Not only is it fun, it also forces you to make strategic choices of which could change the flow of the battle. The abilities of each character are really awesome as well as the relationships with each other and the bonuses they receive when they are close to friends.
Honestly, If you like RPGs and/or Strategy Games, this is the game for you!
Too bad there aren't any trophies...

Great Gameplay! I can't put this game down!
the story isn't very impressive but the gameplay just blows you away and makes you keep coming back for more.
its very similar to fire emblem, its a turn based strategy only you have a limited amount of moves to make and you move each unit in third person view on the battle field. each type of unit has its advantages and disadvantages and limitations on the field.
the game gets more challenging the more you progress but still manages you keep you hooked and will have you thinking up strategies even in your sleep.
the graphics are amazing. everything is 3D yet it looks like a water painting on a canvas that fades towards the edges of the screen to colorless sketches.
bottom line is, it has great graphics and great gameplay, but if your looking for a good story then this isn't the game for you.

Wow This is the game that is very unique in terms of visual display and gameplay.... and I got hooked! The last time I was really involved in a turn-based game is way back when I played UFO in PC (it was about 1996). I think this game has improved the unique gameplay that UFO had into a whole new level.
Additionally, I have a thing about water color painting. The character display is gorgeous and much like hand-drawn, which in fact its an animated 3D.
All in all, I love this game very much, enjoying every second of it and can't wait for its sequel to come out in PSP.

A very special game This is one of those brilliant games that, sadly, doesn't get the attention it deserves.
The story is sweet, if a little corny, the music superb, and the gameplay fun and addictive.
The missions could do with a little more diversity, and the role-playing/customisation elements some more depth, but the combination of genres works very well on the whole.
Valkyria Chronicles is a memorable experience that should not be missed, and will always hold a prized position in my collection. It really is a little gem of a game.

Great and unappreciated game This is a great strategy game for those who likes a pseudo turn based and realtime element. A great and engaging backstory and characters. My only sadness is that VC2 is on psp and I don't have one.

Good game, bit different Interesting RPG/wargame. Essentially RPG elements (XP/levelling, weapons/armour upgrades, special abilities, rpg story) mixed into turnbased wartime battles.
Pros: Graphically its very good, very artistic which works really well with the game. Levels are challenging.
Cons:Story has an interesting setting but unfortunately doesn't do any more than a typical JRPG. Certain characters have very annoying voices, and ridiculous dialogue.
It's a turnbased wargame, but in actuality it's more like a puzzle game with dice-roll elements, as being suicidal in going after the objectives is often a better strategy than treating the scenario realistically.
Still, if you're interested in RPGs but not in grinding, and wargames but not strategy, this is a pretty good choice. Just remember it's a good example but not a great example of either genre.

An interesting game with beautifull art and a nice history, Valkyrie Chronicles gives an interesting turn base RPG with a interesting aproach to the old turn based movement. You'll find yourself guiding every units in a 3rd person view and manually aiming at each enemy.

Excellent game but small dissaponitment In my PS3 game life, this is the one of the best in RPG.
For me, the graphic of game is only one disadvantage for PS3.
And I'm very disappointed with opening of game.
In US version, opening song was cut against Japanese version.

Great game One of my biggest surprise on ps3, I didn't really expect much from this game but it is one of the best strategy game on the next gen! Story is very standard and main characters kind of annoying, but ambiance is so cool and the gameplay is nice

An underrated gem This is one of my favorite titles of all time on PS3. An addictive game with outstanding value, a lot of depth and real re-playability. By far the best tactical RPG I have ever played.
My only grief would be with the story and characters; although the global setting is compelling, the dialogs are naive at best, borderline silly (in a very J-RPG fashion). That should not prevent you from getting this great game, though !

The Best RPG Action Strategy for PS3 New experience in strategy game, first you gotta think where to place your troops, after that you can avoid the shooter by run, then you can shoot the enemy on the back of their had. If the enemy too strong you can use the tank. Awesome :)
Great price, awesome looking cover with free DLC to boot! The title says it all. It's the same game fans know and love, but it's cheaper, has an awesome looking cover and the Edy dlc is included. Recommended for hardcore Valkyria fans.

best PS3 RPG as of 2008 not since final fantasy tactics on PS1 (that's right, ONE) have a played such an awesome strategy RPG. valkyria is like FFT + XCOM, executed beautifully.
No title Everything about this game is top-notch, from the soundtrack, to the gameplay, to the cast of very likable characters. The graphics are also charming in that they resemble a water-colour painting that has been brought to life. If you like RPGs (especially tactical ones), you simply cannot miss this title. This is one of the most enjoyable games I've ever played on any system.

Dream comes true! This is one brilliant game you could have been dreaming since the start of gaming era. And finally it comes, it came. The game is perfect, you could feel it and understand what I am saying if you are either an JRPG fan or an anime fan, or just an tactics fan. But anyhow, you won't be disappointed by this game.

Best PS3 RPG Valkyria Chronicles is the most beautiful game available on the PS3, and simply the best RPG on the system. Definitely a must-have for any PS3 player.

the story and characters are so amazing and the game is so much fun. It mixes 3 genres into one and it is so much fun. The demo on the PS Store doesn't do the game any justice. The demo only gives you a tiny bit of how the full game really is. Try the demo to see how it plays but the whole story and deeper customization is in the full game and THIS GAME SHOULD NOT BE MISSED!

No title I played the japanese version, it is pretty good. And I also bought this one. trust me! it is quite fun!
Amazing! The graphics are amazing, voice acting is top notch, very fun gameplay for a turn base game. Definitely pick this one up if you haven't already.
