Refreshing
Pokemon White/Black are a very refreshing experience. You will only encounter new pokémon until you beat the main story. Graphics and battle engine have been redone and and are excellent!

Not even close to the best, but another decent game.
To make this short I will mention my main gripe with the game.
Only Unova Pokemon during main game: I'm not the usual "Gen 5 suckzzz!", I like some of the Pokemon, just like any other generation. But limiting me to only using Unova Pokemon was my main gripe. So, I just hacked in some older Pokemon in there, problem solved.
The rest is just the usual Pokemon adventure, beat 8 gyms, battle the Elite 4, etc.
And the design of the female trainer makes her my favorite Pokemon girl.
To make this short I will mention my main gripe with the game.

New Pokemon, Moves and Abilities
"Just an increase in the number of pokemon, and thei get weirder each generation that comes." I'm a Pokemon fan, but this was what I thought. I thought I wouldn't like it. After much reading, I was convinced to give it a try. Having played the game, I still have the same opinion on the new pokemon getting weirder each generation, but the fact is that new pokemon means new combinations of moves and abilities. Coupled with the new Triple Battles and Rotation Battles, we now have possibilities for many different strategies. There's also the Dream World where we can catch pokemon with moves and abilities that they can't normally have, opening even more strategy possibilities.
PS: speaking of moves, another thing that picked my interest: TMs became infinite use! Finally!

US Version works on my Japan DSi (and US 3DS)

The Best Japanese Pokemon Game Yet
So far this game I have picked it #1 so far. I tried other pokemon games (japan version) and they all were basicly the same awesome and cool but this one i recall #1 out of the japanese games i played thx a lot play asia.com your the best. Best Pokémon game ever
It's really hard to play again any other Pokémon game after starting this one. The story is... well, there IS a story, and good enough to be liked by 18 years old people like me, with great characters, and for the first time in a Pokémon game everything is not about collecting Gym Badges, far for it. Your hero or heroine now is a teen, and it's great not to have every villains saying "hey, but you're just a kid !". The battles are more intense than ever with the Pokémon constantly moving, the camera following them all the long. And it's faster. Really faster, first time I don't get bored after a lot of fights. Not only the battles, but choosing an item in the bag is easier, and you can have multiple commands saved with the select button. As with every new generation, the strategy is enhanced with great possibilities. And one thing that really made me love this game is the soundtrack, beautiful and intense. I actually put my DS aside more than one time, stopping playing just to hear the musics for a while ! Of course, playing the game in japanese make the experience even greater, with original Pokémon and moves' names. If you have the minimum basics and can real hiragana and katakana, don't hesitate, it may actually improve your competences in this language (worked for me). And you will benefit of the japanese wi-fi events and Dream World !

Playing this side by side with Soul Silver right now - similar, but not the same. The latest generation of Pokemon has grown up, not only has the whole game engine matured - visuals are fully realized and exploited in 3D now (but not 3DS) - the Black and White world is darker, the storyline is more ominous in line with more traditional JRPGs.

This game completely reinvents the pokemon franchise with innovative new features such as triple battles and seasons which will affect places that are accessible and the wild pokemon available!
There are no old pokemon until you finish the game so it is like a completely new adventure for everyone.
Definitely recommend for everyone whether they're a pokemon fan or somebody who has never played before.

Now, I'm one of those kids that pretty much grew up without Pokémon and video games. I didn't get my first game system until I was almost 15, and when I did, it was a DS Lite (I still have it to this day). But basically, I know nothing of Pokémon or the works, except for Pikachu (I mean, come on, who hasn't heard of Pikachu and his yellow cuteness?). So, this year, I decided to take the jump and get my first Pokémon game. And Pokémon White was the one I picked up.
First of all, I'm someone who's picky about graphics (I like 3D models, like in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days or something), but you know what? There was something kind of cutesy about this game's graphics to me. Like...it kind of made me think of Tamagotchis somehow (No, the graphics aren't as old school as Tamagotchis, don't worry). The music's fun, not some sort of magnificent orchestrated piece, but it fits the game's feel, y'know? And, for a newbie Pokémon trainer, I've found the game quite addicting. ^^ As I expected of myself, I only keep the "cute" Pokémon I catch. :P And I love nicknaming them as well. Makes it feel more personal, yeah? Anyway, it's a fun game, and I think it's got a good bit of content in it to keep me busy for a while. :)

The internet options that offers this game should have been added since diamond, fromn the dream world to the battle match making system, it offers many possiblities to interact with other people from around the globe, plus the posibility to get your pokemon from previous ds generations eases the challenge of getting them all, perhaps the main flaw would be the frequency of wich people rage-quit on random internet matchings, it can get really annoying, but if yopu play only with friends you should be OK

Absolutely fun!
This is an absolutely fun game! I haven't played Pokemon much over the years except Soul Silver (in English) and my last game before that was Ruby. However, this game is a nice refreshment away from the real world. Plus, I can sort of broaden my Japanese with a fair amount of new words. I find myself not looking in my dictionary because the game is quite simple to understand. I recommend this game if you are fairly educated in Japanese (at the very least on an elementary level) and a fan of the Pokemon series!
Plus, the box art and kana on the box FAR surpass the US version. And it was delivered nicely, a definate plus!

Pokemon Black/White is arguably the best game of the series. Even though the core mechanic has remained pretty much intact all these years, this one is still faithful to what made the series so great. The new additions are definitely welcome and great.

Another must-buy RPG released in the near-end of NDS lifetime,definitely recommended for pokemon fan,especially for those who grow-up together with pokemon series since the very first on Gameboy,but...the only concerns me,when will Ninty release an expansion for this game...

Almost perfect
The game in itself is good, but as an RPG fan, I have to say the new exp system suck.. What kind of an RPG doesn't allow you to lvl your pokemon?

The new features of the game, the seasonal changes, story, characters, graphics, etc. are huge improvements. However the new pokemon are not all that great, some of them look really ugly.

I'm so impressed. Black/White is the best Pokemon game of all. Totally new Pokemon, catchy tracks, amazig new concepts, online features and overhauled Pokemon mechanics. It's the biggest step forward for GameFreak. Must-have for everyone.

Pokemon Black
This is gonna be my first pokemon game in DS after Yellow from Gameboy. The graphic has improved a lot and most of the pokemons are new. Too bad cannot see Pikachu from hereon.
Hope there will be new series coming out for 3DS.

This game is wonderful! When I was playing Pokémon White I saw how Pokemon has changed along the years. The graphics are the better, the new Pokémon are very nice and the new types of battles too.
I think if you are a true Pokemon Trainer, you should buy Pokemon White!

The game plays like previous pokemon games but with new added features. Graphics is greatly improved and has more cutscenes. The sprites during battle is also fully animated. In addition to day and night cycle , a seasonal cycle has also been introduced. A pokemon dreamworld is also introduced whereby players can capture pokemon not normally obtainable. A great game of the pokemon series.

Its a great game but its the same old stuff people have been playing for years.
Its still an enjoyable and engaging experience but its gotten a bit repetitive, at least for my tastes

This is awesome! Seriously, it'll keep you hooked for HOURS!!! and you must get its dark counterpart as well, because in pokemon black you get the super cute Reshiram and in white you get White forest.

A new experience
If you've been playing pokemon for the past four generations, there is no reason for not buying this game. Since at the beginning you only see the new pokémons (until you beat the game, that is) you can actually feel like you're playing a fresh game even if you just started playing the pokemon series.

it's amazing. even though there aren't that many cute pokemon... they grow on you. really good. much better graphics, gameplay, and the short animation cuts are really awesome to watch. can't play an older gen after playing this, it's very, very entertaining.

If you are a fan of this series, you cannot miss this game! This feels really like a new experience, and not more of the same like Ruby/Sapphire and Diamond/Pearl were.
Better graphics (pokemon in battle now are animated), faster gameplay, one of the better OST of the series (fantastic!), good story are some of the best thing about this game, but there is really a long list of improvements against the previous games!
Only bad points for me where: no more Gym Leaders rematches (like in HG/SS) and no more animations for them (only your rivals have animations).
Make yourself a favor: buy this game now!

OMG, finally, the Pokemon 6th generation is released on US. The first time I played Pokemon is from Red/Blue on GBC. Although the gameplay on Black/White is not really far from the previous series, which is we just need to challenge others NPC, but this new series is having many improvement. That being said I am enjoying Pokemon White very much. I feel that this is one of the best games in the series along with Pokemon Black. Pokemon White offers an exclusive playable area known as White Forest which is unavailable in Pokemon Black. They are also exclusive pokemon to this game which makes it different than Pokemon Black as well. I enjoy playing both games very much. I have put in over 40 hours on this game and I still haven't finished the game yet.

This is first time that I play a Pokémon game in japanese version and I didn't have any difficult with the language. I didn't want to wait the english version so I bought it.

Newcomer in Pokemon Series
I've never played pokemon rpgs before so wanna give it a try on pokemon black as I was attracted to Reshiram design. The game itself was beyond my expectation..Outstanding! I really like it very much and addicted too. For hardcore rpgs fan should try. Do not bother any review that pokemon only for kids tough...absolutely wrong idea. Can't wait to get the White edition cause Zekrom also an awesome pokemon.

The only Pokémon game I ever bought was the Blue Edition. I decided to buy the new one because I wanted to see the new generation of Pokemon. Actually, when I play Pokémon Black Edition, I feel like when I was a child, playing Pokémon Blue Edition! Though it's not as magical as it used to be, this new game is amazing.

These games are great new introductions into the pokemon series! Fun hunting for new pokemon and enjoying the new stories. I purchased a japanese black and an english white, I own a green japanese dsi LL and I'm so happy that it is capable of playing both.
These games are great new introductions into the pokemon series! Fun hunting for new pokemon and enjoying the new stories. I purchased a japanese black and an english white, I own a green japanese dsi LL and I'm so happy that it is capable of playing both.

Yes, these 2 games are Great! These Editions in particular, if you're specifically an English speaker! I'm Mainly an English speaker, myself. But since I've been studying Japanese, I favor the Japanese Editions, as well! If you are an English speaker and Love Pokemon, You Will Love These Games! Plenty of new features! You'll just Have to check them out for yourselves! 8D

This game is amazing although it is a little annoying that I can not send my english pokemon to it...I have to say other than that this game is one of the best in the series I have played the series from the begining and I heavily suggest you buy this wonderful addition to this amazing series! With that said a little tip battlers buy Black version collectors buy White version!

Pokemon Black
The product was shipped and arrived in a reasonable amount of time. There was no hassle and order details and invoice was neat and easy to read. I recommend using this website for game needs.
As far as the game goes, it was high quality and still in the company package. The highest care was taken in the storage of it and no visible scratches. It was nice to get to play Pokemon Black early and get used to some of the new features they added.

While 100% respectful of the Pokémon tradition, White (and Black) have enough new features to revitalize the franchise (like the new 3v3 battles). Improved graphics, animated battles and general attention to details makes it the most beautiful Pokémon game to date.

I remember playing pokemon red and blue when I was little and it was very entertaining. When I heard that a new pokemon game was coming out I said I know where I'm buying this game. I finally got the game 3 days ago after that long wait, but when I played it, it was worth the wait. The new pokemon are amazing and the graphics are incredible!!! Great job!!!

Maybe one of the best pokemon games ever
It's my second week or so that I'm the owner of Pokemon White and I must admit that Gamefreak didn't disappoint me. It's as great as always and the 3D-effect fit very well into the game. The only thing I don't like (but also didn't like in the games before) is that there are too many Pokemon. Of course you don't have to catch every Pokemon to get it into your Pokedex, but more than 6 or 700 Pokemon are too much.
Pokemon White works fine on both my European DS Lite and old Nintendo DS, but not on my DSi XL (doesn't recognize the game).

Best game yet
These 5th generation games of pokemon are absolutely stunning. The new pokemon look great and the game is just awesome. I havent had so much fun playing pokemon since I was a kid playing on my gameboy. An instant buy for everyone with a ds.

Exciting !
I was so excited to hear that a new pokemon game was
being released and when i played this game it was like playing red and blue again ^o^. It was fun to see so many new pokemon. There is a lot to do in this game gameplay, gts and wifi battles , a must for any Pokemon Fan ! ^o^

Brilliant
Played it a lot since it arrived, have to say it's bloody brilliant, I was very skeptical that it wouldn't live up to the past pokemon games because of the 5th gen pokemon, but I was pleasantly surprised, the new generation actually helped to make it feel like a new game and not another repetitive 'catch em all' pokemon game. If anything I've come to love all the new pokemon, and that there's a lot more to do after the elite four is beaten (I have a few towns I haven't even got to yet)
I'm loving all the new features, and I'm very much anticipating the English release :)

I was surprised by how great this game was, I remember seeing the sprites when they first came out and thought most of them were stupid looking, so I thought it'd be best not to pre order it, but after a while I started to see all the reviews and I knew I had to order it, Once I got it I started playing and after about the 3rd gym I just knew I had to catch all of the new pokemon, with a strange craze that normally doesn't come over me for any other pokemon game except Heart Gold, I went back and started catching every thing I missed, and finally was able to move on, I have every Generation 5 pokemon now except for a few White exclusives, that are only seen in White and the Wi-Fi only pokemon, I ended up not ordering it until the Bikutini event had passed, so I still am missing one sadly, and I might even have to wait for the English version to come out before I can get one but it will be worth the wait, and I can't wait to delve back into this pokemon world, and finish the Pokedex 100%, and it's definitely worth the money. :D

I am completely blown away. Even though I had no clue as to what was going on around me, I still made it through with some memorable experiences, much like I had when I first played a pokemon game and couldn't even read. The music is absolutely phenomenal. The environments are enticing. The gameplay has vastly improved. Wow! Fantastic game in the series. Not only a bunch of new features, but I'm Really Glad I got the original Japanese editions. I've already beaten Black once, thanks to a little help from an online guide. And even though I favor Black(mainly for Reshiram), I'm Really liking White as well(different game almost entirely). Only general stuff like maps, functions and Most of the Pokemon are the same, and even maps are slightly different in this one. Plus each original edition is an excellent learning tool if you are studying the japanese language. You can even select if you want to read in simply japanese kana or you can read in the japanese kanji and kana combinations! Whoohoo, I Especially Love that!(Considering my own study of japanese). This is a Good review, as it's not to much of a Spoiler, so it promotes the great aspects of the game, but leaves so much to discover for yourselves(and That is a Lot to discover).

By far the most epic adventure yet. If you thought Diamond and Pearl made good use of the graphics (though I beg to differ), you ain't seen nothing yet! The range of Pokémon available and the creativity splashed in by Game Freak make this the best yet!

having been an avid fan since pokemon started I, like everyone else, couldnt wait for this. It's awesome. Kinda glad I stuck with the original DS. If there is one thing I have to say bad about it, that would be the graphics, they are a little blocky. But thats it. Great game. Missed out on Victini though by a day but I'll just wait for the english release and get black.

These newest pokemon games are really fun and I love the newest battle feature where the pokemon contunually move while you choose their next battle move. Music and settings are neat. I love the roller-coaster gym-- really fun stuff.

This newest installment of Pokemon is really fun and the music is great too. The battles are better than ever because of the animation. I found that the Japanese DSI works best but the games do play very well on the US version of DS without much loss of quality. I can't wait for the game to come out in the US so I can use the downloads. This is a great game even though some of the newer pokemon are not as cute as the older ones. I do like the Yorkie and the fawn but the snow globe and a few others are not very loveable.

Well at first I wasn't going to get this game mainly they been making Pokemon games after Pokemon games in this RPG style. But I got hooked in videos, and walkthroughs, So I was like meh lets try this, So i bought it, and I beat it recently last night, and I was amazed by the story, Specially with N, I want to get Pokemon White now, Which I might in December. :3. 5/5.

i was all happy when i got it and satisfied as i played it, but something went wrong, maybe it's just MY game, but as i was fighting a pokemon, i had 2 left and i tried to send them out, but it wouldnt let me! i tried everything! ad got very pissed off, but i had to restart from last save and it was a while agoD:<

The inventory works well and the icons of items are quite helpful.

The best in the series.
Pokemon Black is by far the best game in the series. There are tons of little things that have been touched up and fixed, and the result is a highly polished game that exceeds expectations and is far better than any of the others in the series.
GRAPHICS: 5/5
The graphics in this game are spectacular, and the best I've ever seen in a Pokemon game and one of the best on the DS. Almost everything is in polygonal 3D, with the sole exception of the trainers and the Pokemon. The environments are both beautiful and breathtaking, and the changes between seasons are heavy without modifying much gameplay. The Pokemon are all now constantly in motion, and they have much more life to them now. Some of the ares have unique camera angles to emphasize different parts of the environment, such as a massive bridge or a ferris wheel. This is the best Pokemon has ever looked.
SOUND: 5/5
The soundtrack in Pokemon Black is, like the rest of the series, fantastic. There is a great mix of old and new, with lots of remixes of classic tunes alongside plenty of great new themes. N's theme and Team Plasma's themes are my personal favorites, but even the normal environmental themes shine. As usual though, the battle themes are by far the best part. There are many new battle themes and variations, and - finally! - a new song when your health is low rather than that annoying blipping noise. One other nice touch is some towns have musicians who can have different instruments, and the music changes accordingly.
STORY: 5/5
Ah, now here's where this game REALLY shines, in my opinion. The Pokemon games have never had particularly interesting stories or characters, but this one changes things. All of the new characters are very unique and interesting, and without spoiling anything, the plot has lots of twists and turns that are very unexpected. Finally, there is an actual plotline in a Pokemon game! The story will keep you enthralled all the way through, and there's plenty to do after the elite four this time around. This is probably the biggest surprise in Pokemon Black, and it's a desperately needed advancement.
GAMEPLAY: 5/5
And now for the important part: The gameplay! As the core gameplay hasn't changed much, I'll instead comment on the improvements and new Pokemon. There are now triple battles and "rotation battles," which are very fun and fresh, but they don't get in the way, as there aren't that many of them. There are too many minor tweaks to list here, but they all make things better. The new Pokemon designs are mostly very unique and interesting. There are a few misses here and there, but generally they all fit in very well. There are tons of brand new type combinations, and best of all, no old Pokemon appear at ALL until you get the National Dex. Of course, as a result, this means there are many expies of older Pokemon, but they're all fresh anyway, and this may be my favorite batch of new Pokemon yet.
POLISH: 5/5
This is the best part about Pokemon Black. As I said before, there are tons of minor tweaks to make things smoother and better. The Pokemon Center and Pokemart are now the same building. The battles run more quickly. The battles now show you the weather rather than interrupting every turn to let you know. The Gym leaders actually do more than sit there and fight trainers. The Elite Four can now be fought in any order. These and more are all minor things that make all the difference.
Overall: 5/5
For those of you fearing that Pokemon was getting old and losing its freshness, you are not alone. I feared the same thing. But Pokemon Black, being simultaneously a reboot and a sequel, defies all expectations and proves that the same formula can still be fresh. Everything is better than previous generations, and this is by far the best game in the series. Either get it now in Japanese or wait until it comes out in English, but buy this game.
Pokemon Black is by far the best game in the series. There are tons of little things that have been touched up and fixed, and the result is a highly polished game that exceeds expectations and is far better than any of the others in the series.
GRAPHICS: 5/5
The graphics in this game are spectacular, and the best I've ever seen in a Pokemon game and one of the best on the DS. Almost everything is in polygonal 3D, with the sole exception of the trainers and the Pokemon. The environments are both beautiful and breathtaking, and the changes between seasons are heavy without modifying much gameplay. The Pokemon are all now constantly in motion, and they have much more life to them now. Some of the ares have unique camera angles to emphasize different parts of the environment, such as a massive bridge or a ferris wheel. This is the best Pokemon has ever looked.
SOUND: 5/5
The soundtrack in Pokemon Black is, like the rest of the series, fantastic. There is a great mix of old and new, with lots of remixes of classic tunes alongside plenty of great new themes. N's theme and Team Plasma's themes are my personal favorites, but even the normal environmental themes shine. As usual though, the battle themes are by far the best part. There are many new battle themes and variations, and - finally! - a new song when your health is low rather than that annoying blipping noise. One other nice touch is some towns have musicians who can have different instruments, and the music changes accordingly.
STORY: 5/5
Ah, now here's where this game REALLY shines, in my opinion. The Pokemon games have never had particularly interesting stories or characters, but this one changes things. All of the new characters are very unique and interesting, and without spoiling anything, the plot has lots of twists and turns that are very unexpected. Finally, there is an actual plotline in a Pokemon game! The story will keep you enthralled all the way through, and there's plenty to do after the elite four this time around. This is probably the biggest surprise in Pokemon Black, and it's a desperately needed advancement.

And now for the important part: The gameplay! As the core gameplay hasn't changed much, I'll instead comment on the improvements and new Pokemon. There are now triple battles and "rotation battles," which are very fun and fresh, but they don't get in the way, as there aren't that many of them. There are too many minor tweaks to list here, but they all make things better. The new Pokemon designs are mostly very unique and interesting. There are a few misses here and there, but generally they all fit in very well. There are tons of brand new type combinations, and best of all, no old Pokemon appear at ALL until you get the National Dex. Of course, as a result, this means there are many expies of older Pokemon, but they're all fresh anyway, and this may be my favorite batch of new Pokemon yet.
POLISH: 5/5
This is the best part about Pokemon Black. As I said before, there are tons of minor tweaks to make things smoother and better. The Pokemon Center and Pokemart are now the same building. The battles run more quickly. The battles now show you the weather rather than interrupting every turn to let you know. The Gym leaders actually do more than sit there and fight trainers. The Elite Four can now be fought in any order. These and more are all minor things that make all the difference.

For those of you fearing that Pokemon was getting old and losing its freshness, you are not alone. I feared the same thing. But Pokemon Black, being simultaneously a reboot and a sequel, defies all expectations and proves that the same formula can still be fresh. Everything is better than previous generations, and this is by far the best game in the series. Either get it now in Japanese or wait until it comes out in English, but buy this game.

This game makes the pokemon adventure fresh as you can only see those new pokemons until you beat the main storyline. The graphics are cool - the view from Sky Arrow Bridge and Royal Isshu is breathtaking! a bit disappointed that berries cant be planted and receive any ribbons in game, but overall, its a great game!

The game was a lot of fun if you have a walkthrough with you, assuming you can't read Japanese. I really like the new Pokemon this time around.

Quite enjoyable, even while not knowing a lot of Japanese
Having started studying Japanese after a long hiatus, I decided to try something new for practicing reading. I'm playing on an original DS, so no region issues for me. Not The Best Pokémon Game...
I was expecting much more from the new games but it finished being kind of a dissapointment. Graphics are good for the nintendo DS, but they could be better and battles are as boring as they were before, I think pokémon should have a better animation and not as repetitive as it is in Pokemon B&W. The trailers promissed a better and different story but it finished being the classic gym challenge. Also, the dream world that I thought would be tons of fun finished being the most boring part of the game. Another important point is thet this game is more difficult than the past Pokemon games.
The game is still good, it´s exciting to pass through the Sky Arrow Bridge and to find new pokemon every second. I also love how you can customize some aspects of the games. Game freak does its magic once again!

The new Pokemon themselves might not be the most elegant or beautiful you have seen in your experience with Pokemon so far, but most of them are interesting and have weird dual types that change the game experience a lot, some of them have never appeared before in the series (for example Ghost-Water or Dragon-Dark). The graphics are simply amazing for a DS game, the main story gameplay lasts for about 20-25 hours, which is grat for a Pokemon game and the battles are usually intense and interesting. The level is higher than in previous Pokemon games battle-wise,thatmeans you will have a harder time defeating some of the enemies. The only negative aspect of this generation for me is that some Pokemon look like evolutions of already existing Pokemon, but Gamefreak decided to launch them as separete species (the most striking example being the Pokemon Mamanbou that looks a lot like Luvdisc but is not connected to it in any way).All in all, great game and a must-buy! People that do not speak Japanese willonly face1-2 problems while playing, because they won't know where to go in some parts of the game, but with a little patience you will find the next spot of interest!

Awesome Game!
This game is simply amazing. They have finally taken a lot of what could have been better with the Pokemon series and actually implemented some awesome radical changes that make this game even better. The TMs are reuseable, poison no longer hurts you outside of battle, the gameplay is smoother and faster, and the music is entertaining. This game is so good.

All features previous generations (at least since the ds ones) should've had are here, random match system, pc compatibility, a more extensive and easier way, along with more options to interact with your friends online, maybe the only drawback is the region lock system that prevents to play it on american systems and to get your pokemon from american versions of DPPtHGSS versions via poke shifter, but lets hope this gets removed once the us version arrives, a must get wether you're a pokemon fan or not

After all of the hype and somewhat disappointments of the HeartGold/SoulSilver and 4th gen games, this improves on nearly all of the aspects that made the franchise so good.
It has an interesting story, if you can understand the Japanese, and the battles are actually EXCITING, which I think I have never said since the original Gold and Silver games that were as most of the original Pokemon fans have said that it was Pokemon at it's pure best.
Overall, you should definitely buy it, but make sure you've got enough money when you purchase it!

Love it.
I love the animations for all the pokemon and how status afflictions really show during battles. They've also made it so you can tell what time it is during a battle, which is convenient.
I miss the Vs. Seeker and L=A option, but the pros outweigh the cons.

In these games, Game Freak (The producers) have made a bold move and only post-game, you can catch only NEW Pokemon. No old ones remain in pre-game (Before Elite Four) but are eventually able to be obtained after.

4 years ago, I got Pokémon Diamond.
I already played Pokémon since Blue came out in Europe.
However, in Diamond, I was able to meet new Pokémon, explore a totally new region, and I had a lot of surprises.
It already felt like a totally new game!
This has gone away in Platina (and Pearl), since I already was familiar with Shinou.
Heart Gold and Soul Silver also didn't give me the fresh feeling, since I'm also known in Jouto and Kantoo (GSC).
And now, 4 years after Diamond/Pearl, I got Black.
Here are only new Pokémon, a whole new Isshu Region, and lots of new surprises.
I never had as much fun as 4 years ago!
The game itself feels really fresh, and Isshu makes good use of really natural areas, and really urban areas.
2 rivals show up really often, and so is N, which was later changed from Pokémon Trainer N, to Plasma Gang N.
The Global Link and High Link features are also really good points of the game, but I didn't see enough of this to rate this.
The thing I don't like, is Dream World.
The website contains kiddy minigames, and after connecting once, I never had the ability to connect again (they keep saying to wait 1 more day to connect, while I'm already waiting my second day).

It's a great game.
It's a great game. It has 158 new pokemon and an entire new region to explore, and it is also longer than most of pokemon games. Easily one of the best games in the series so far. There are also plenty of translation guides, making it a great game to practice Japanese with.

So many amazing new features and pokemon. It seems lengthier than the previous games. I just beat the main game at around 35 hours and there's plenty of post-game content. I can't wait for an english release too!

The battles are faster-paced; HP reduction and animations are faster and better animated. The graphics are fantastic. I must offer up a bit of a warning about the games. The region-lock extends past just not being able to use them with a NTSC/PAL DSi. You see, there is another neat feature that is called the Pokeshifter. This function is similar to the 4th Generation's Pal Park, except that it is now a minigame (for a more detailed analyses of it, you should head over to Serebii). The problem is, you can only "shift" over Pokemon from a Japanese copy of DPPtHGSS (4 Gen Games for those of you who might wonder). So, unless you can't wait for the localization to transfer your team of Pokemon(and otherwise more easily understand the story), then I HIGHLY suggest purchasing this amazing title.

It was enchanting to see the way how the antagonist's goal was much more harder to achive that he could only get the ledgendary pokemon until the 7th gym. And I loved how they incorperated Huin City to New York City so much.

Fantastic... breath of fresh air!
Loved it - just finished up the main game. Having all new pokemon for the main part of the game is definitely a new feel. I fell in love with a ton of them. You don't really have to speak the language to get most of what is going on. There are a couple times when you'll probably have to consult a walkthrough but I'd recommend it as a must buy if you just can't wait for the English release like me!

I had some hesitation at first when I heard of a fifth generation, but I bought the game being the die hard Pokemon fan that I am, an I am proud to say that once again that this game doesn't disappoint. With a great foundation built on with a fresh spin of graphics, new pokemon that are fun to use, and quite a few new twists in not only the introduction of triple battles, but plot as well, This game is a great addition to the DS library. Don`t bother with people saying those new pokemons aren`t pokemon, nostalgia for sure, R/B/Y was good back there, G/S/C too. After this many people started complain about R/S/E and D/P/Pt. I`m playing Pokemon since 1999 and still is my favorite franchise, i love Ken Sugimori artwork. The only time i felt Pokemon was losing something was in R/S/E but regained my interest back with D/P/Pt. Now with Pokemon Black and White, and possibly a Gray Edition coming too, i say Pokemon will give to their fans all they deserve... more new adventures.

Pokemon still amaze me!
I love this game! The pokemon continue to grow on me. I loved these games from the first generation and even now can't stop with them! I can't wait for the english releases and for more pokemon in the future!

Worth What I Paid!
I've clocked in about 40 hours on this game and I'm STILL not bored with it! Very good game, and best entry in the series yet!

A Fresh Pokemon Game!
I've been playing Pokémon for about 12 years now, but this has to be the one I've enjoyed most. Everything in the game feels smooth and streamlined. Honestly, the game feels more like an rpg. The fact that the Pokémon are all animated throughout battle really cuts down on the boringness of battles that plagued the older games.
The game clearly takes advantage of the DS's 3D rendering capabilities, for example, there's an entire city in 3D with numerous camera angles, the camera angles rotate often, presenting you with a new perspective on the route/city etc. that you are traversing, and there are many puzzles that use the 3D environments well. **SPOILERS**Victory Road, the final cave is done nicely, where you ascend a cone shaped mountain, going inside and outside and scaling the exterior sideways. **END SPOILERS**
Other subtleties really help boost the games performance e.g the region map is more realistic, and the awful bag system in HeartGold and SoulSilver is now gone. In addition, you can register multiple items to the select button.
The soundtrack is fantastic (compared to other Pokémon games), there are nice Spanishy themes, with awesome battle music, and the evil syndicate's theme is fabulous. Notably, every town has its own background music.
A few things that you should know:
1. You'll need a DS, DS Lite or a Japanese DSi to play this game.
2. Some things, like the High Link will require local wireless, and hence the probablilty of you getting to use this feature is slim.
3. You cannot migrate Pokémon from a US version of DPPt, HG or SS to this Japanese game.
4. I do recommend being able to READ Japanese. This game has kana and kanji options and reading will help you to get through menus easier (basic stuff like yes, no, use, back, ok etc.) I taught myself basic Japanese just to play this game.
5. This game is still completely awesome. It's a must!

By far the best game in the series. Nintendo managed to relaunch an already strong franchise and make it even better. For someone with no knowledge of japanese, this game is still perfectly playable. The graphics are amazing compared to Heartgold and Soulsilver.
The region design brings a fresh breeze throughout the game, progress is natural and never felt the need to grind lvls to continue.
Only downpart to it is the region lock for DSi and DSi XL.
But besides that, the game is worth the money for sure.

I might not be able to read it, but it's still the best game in the series. The new battle scenes and pokemon are great, and in gneral its just such an improvement from generation 4. Buy it. Buy it right now.

Must-have for any DS owner out there
As a huge Pokémon fan, I was eagerly awaiting this but avoided most media surrounding the game because I didn't want to make the wait harder. In the end I still caved in and bought the JP version, and after a couple hours with the game I am glad I did!
While this is still a Pokémon game at its fundamentals, B/W bring the biggest generation gap since G/S. The new 3v3 battles, the new graphics system, the new Pokémon being exclusive to Isshu until you've beaten the main game (feels weird crossing caves without running into Geodudes and Zubats, seas wihout Tentacools :p) make this a rather refreshing, while still familiar, experience.
The game isn't that hard to understand for a non-Japanese speaker, and if you're ever lost there are already walkthroughs on the web for import buyers, so don't let that stop you from buying if you can't wait for spring.
I usually buy one copy of the main games, and then the third version, but for these looks like I'll be buying Black as well. It's just that good.

Good Game
Pretty happy with this game, lots of cute, interesting, and strong pokemon in this region. The moving pokemon sprites are a nice graphical update, but pokemon and trainers in the distance can look squished up and gross. Triple rotation battles add an interesting new challenge, trying to guess the AIs next move. The music seems to have been stepped up a bit in variety. It may help to know a little Japanese, but some of the key words are in English, while others are accompanied by pictures pokemon fans should recognize. Downside, few berries and no apricorns.

GameFreak running out of ideas? Pah, not just yet!
I've been having a lot of fun playing this game, and think it may well be one of the best in the series. Part of the enjoyment is of course seeing the new Pokemon, and as I resisted the temptation to look at sprite sheets on the internet beforehand the new Pokemon I'm finding in the game are coming as a genuine surprise, which is great fun. : ) Though there are some odd ones, the majority of the new Pokemon are nicely designed, from the cute to the fearsome, and well worthy to be on a list of anyone's favourites.
Only a few minor frustrations, for instance the new EXP system, and that the transfer of Pokemon from previous games is only one way. It would have been nice to have the inclusion of features like following Pokemon and animations for Gym leaders, too - somehow I expect we'll be seeing them in the inevitable third version. Still, the new features on the whole are good, reusable TMs making experimenting with movesets much easier, and the animated Pokemon sprites making battles more dynamic. I quite like the story, too, especially the character of N, though the hero's childhood friends/rivals are as ever deeply irritating.
It helps if you know some Japanese, as I do, and can at least read kana (this is a piece of cake to learn, honest, could do it while waiting for the game to arrive), but if you've played a Pokemon game before, the language barrier should be no problem. To me, importing was well worth it, and will likely give access in future to Japanese-only Event Pokemon via WiFi, as well, as was the case with Platinum and HG/SS, which is always a nice bonus.

While I didn't receive the Japanese pre-order gift, I was still extremely pleased with my purchase.
As for the game itself; easily the best Pokemon game so far.
While each Pokemon game is said to be "the same game with a different name", Black and White are a refreshing in ways that previous titles were not.
150+ new pokemon mean that Older Monsters, while still obtainable, don't get in the way of the new creatures. Still, things are still familiar.
On top of that new features such as the GTS Negotiation, C-Gear, easier to read Kanji text and Fully animated battles make it even better.
The one low point of the game is walking sprites (introduced in HGSS) they unfortunately don't make a return. However, there's no doubt in my mid we'll be seeing them again.
Everything is new enough, it's like I'm playing Pokemon for the first time AGAIN!
If you have a Nintendo DS, this is a MUST have title.

A perfect start
Pokemon Black and White were designed for newcomers, considering how it features all-new Pokemon (without any of the old ones) and new battle systems. However, the new graphics and also the story (Yes, Pokemon B/W has a STORY) are sure to impress old gamers as well. The Pokemon are fun to use, and the animations are definitely an improvement from before. There is pixelation in the images, but nothing that affects the game in any way. I'm not a real fan of the battle music, but the town / route music is great.

While 100% respectful of the Pokémon tradition, Black has enough new features to revitalize the franchise (like the new 3v3 battles). Improved graphics, animated battles and general attention to details makes it the most beautiful Pokémon game to date.

Fantastic Game
Pokemon Black is by far the best pokemon that GameFreak has made. This is also the best group of poke's to ever be assemble. The only bad thing I have to say about it is that I don't know Japanese.

Really great.
The game's awesome and the graphics have drastically improved. Always amazed at new developments of the storyline and the new Pokémon. The new battle style and the scenes are also very nice. Loving it so far. The music is also really good, which is a first for me, as I don't really listen to the music on the previous games.

5 stars is not enough to rate this game
Not spoiling it for anyone who has not bought the game yet but are reading these reviews, Pokemon White and Black are without a doubt at the pinnacle of pokemon games and from here onward they can only come out with better versions. I'd have to say that White and Black is the start of a new pokemon gaming experience. New graphics, game play, intricate battling, the list goes on. For any pokemon fan, it is essential that you get this game. Having bought White, I've found myself wanting to buy Black as well. How crazy yet brilliant is that!? All in all, you won't be disappointed with this game.

Great Game
I was so excited to finally get this game. Pokemon White is absolutely the best game that I have played in a long time. I have been a Pokemon fan for many years and can hardly wait to get Pokemon Black. Highly recommend this game and purchasing from Play-Asia.

Still fun as ever
One word Epic. This game does no wrong. The music is the series best. The graphics are improved a lot in battle and out. With all the new pokemon, you will be discovering new favorites along with all the old. If their is one pokemon game you can get for the DS, this game is it.

Pokemon gets an extreme needed make over!!
The recent DS versions of Pokemon were in my opinion pretty boring and didn't have a lot to offer, but this game is brand new and feels like it has many mechanic changes while keeping the original formula for Pokemon.
My biggest issue on the DS games were the hardware issues which I am so glad Nintendo fixed. I will start there. The game lets you start right away without being forced to wait 5 seconds before letting you press start or whatever. The saving was another big issue. The other DS games took WAY too long to save, this one is always one solid speed with a progress indicator. The game doesn't seem to lag when you walk into something, it plays as smooth as Ruby and Sapphire versions if that makes sense. The game's speed definitely increased with text going quick and having cartoon bubbles instead of the person's name saying something.
The world is amazing at best! The whole game is designed for the Nintendo 3DS which is the reason why the towns are set up the way they are. All the towns look different especially with the well-known 3-D city. The world map itself is pretty good and easy to follow and is a lot more lively. There is a place where you see cars actually driving which is the first in any Pokemon game excluding the secret truck in Red and Blue versions. The Pokemon during battle actually move and dance or whatever with expressions which is pretty cool. I would have done it in 3-D polygon graphics, but this is already a step up. The game is more interactive with people walking around in random places or getting from place to place. Speaking of interactivity, the C-Gear allows you to play and videochat with friends on the world map and not just in the battle rooms.
All in all, the game so far looks epic! I am only a little over 1/2 way through and there doesn't seem to be any repetition. All the gyms are different with their own specials like the roller coaster gym. You also meet a character named N who is very mysterious with some amazing battle music.
Even if you don't like Pokemon, I would say check this one out!!

All in all, the game so far looks epic! I am only a little over 1/2 way through and there doesn't seem to be any repetition. All the gyms are different with their own specials like the roller coaster gym. You also meet a character named N who is very mysterious with some amazing battle music.
Even if you don't like Pokemon, I would say check this one out!!

The recent DS versions of Pokemon were in my opinion pretty boring and didn't have a lot to offer, but this game is brand new and feels like it has many mechanic changes while keeping the original formula for Pokemon.
My biggest issue on the DS games were the hardware issues which I am so glad Nintendo fixed. I will start there. The game lets you start right away without being forced to wait 5 seconds before letting you press start or whatever. The saving was another big issue. The other DS games took WAY too long to save, this one is always one solid speed with a progress indicator. The game doesn't seem to lag when you walk into something, it plays as smooth as Ruby and Sapphire versions if that makes sense. The game's speed definitely increased with text going quick and having cartoon bubbles instead of the person's name saying something.
The world is amazing at best! The whole game is designed for the Nintendo 3DS which is the reason why the towns are set up the way they are. All the towns look different especially with the well-known 3-D city. The world map itself is pretty good and easy to follow and is a lot more lively. There is a place where you see cars actually driving which is the first in any Pokemon game excluding the secret truck in Red and Blue versions. The Pokemon during battle actually move and dance or whatever with expressions which is pretty cool. I would have done it in 3-D polygon graphics, but this is already a step up. The game is more interactive with people walking around in random places or getting from place to place. Speaking of interactivity, the C-Gear allows you to play and videochat with friends on the world map and not just in the battle rooms.

As my subject indicates, this is yet another wonderful addition to the pokemon franchise, complete with quirky characters and the massive national pokedex. If you like pokemon, this game is definitely recommended, if you don't... well then you're probably not reading this anyway.

Pokemon hasn't felt this amazing in a VERY long time.
I have personally been playing Pokemon games ever since they've been out. I started playing these games whenever I was only 8 years old, and now I am 20 and I still play. The preceding games (Diamond/Pearl/Platinum) were okay, but just didn't give me that nostalgic Pokemon feeling that I wanted when I was playing. No, they weren't bad games, but definitely not my favorite generation of the series. But I can definitely say that Pokemon Black and White have completely opened my eyes to the capabilities of games these days for the DS. The 3D is absolutely stunning, and the game gives me an all new feeling about the whole franchise. I haven't felt this great while playing a Pokemon game in quite some time. The game has some interesting twists, but I do not want to include them in this review because I don't want to spoil it. But if you're considering buying either of these games, the way that you end up getting the main legendary (Zekrom or Reshiram) is awesome. The Best Pokémon Game Ever
I come from the ancient, wonderful world of Pokémon Red and Blue. I immensely enjoyed them, but when Silver and Gold came around, I was completely floored by the emotional impact those games had on me. I played Silver for years. I played so much that pretty much every Pokémon I had caught in the game was level 70+. I was excited to feel the same love with Ruby and Sapphire; however, when Ruby and Sapphire was released, I was met with an overwhelming disappointment. So much disappointment that I skipped the Red and Blue remakes and stored away my Gameboys. It wasn't until Diamond and Pearl came along that I became interested in the Pokémon universe again. The game looked promising. I went out and bought a DS and Pokémon Pearl the night it was released. I was in awe. It was a breath of fresh air. Still, nothing came close to the wonder I felt when I first played Silver and Gold, and I was bouncing with excitement when they were remade. I loved them and it instilled the love I had for the originals and then some. When Black and White was announced, I was a little apprehensive. When some of the Pokémon were released, I became even more apprehensive. I ordered the game anyway, and hands down, it is the best Pokémon game I've ever played. It even surpasses the cult-like love I had for Gold and Silver. The story is phenomenal, and I couldn't even understand what the characters were saying. The music, the style, the direction. It's different. It's fresh. It's new. The way everything is in Ishuu is wonderful. At first, I hated the new Pokémon. I thought they looked ridiculous (and a small select few still do), but now after playing the game for about month, I can say a lot of these Pokémon have become my favorite. If you've been thinking about getting it in Japanese, I recommend it. There's no reason why you should wait. Get it now and get the US version when it comes out. It's what I plan on doing.
(and, even though I'm not supposed to, I'm going to say that Play-Asia was wonderful in getting the game to me ASAP)

It's like experiencing Red and Blue all over again.
This is without a doubt the most fun Pokemon game in the series. Every single flaw that I had a problem with has been cleared up, the Pokemon are all new and you can still get the oldies after you beat it, the battles are fast paced, etc. etc.
It reminds me of the first games with it being a new region with 150 all-new Pokemon. The music's great too. It's completely fresh and not a rehash like Generation 4 was.
The only thing I can really complain about is that it's too easy so far. Maybe it's just because I got overleveled, but I didn't try to.

Fantastic scenes, REALLY GOOD music (I love them all), and very unique pokemons. The pokemons actually look very good to me compared to the previous series where 3rd to 4th, pokemon looking like machines (legendaries). This games' story line was very cool too! Definitely worth buying!

Pretty much the awesome-est Pokemon game thus far
Plus: Much improved graphics. Awesome sound. New battle systems. Loads more Pokemon. Pretty interesting villain (and that opening sequence is awesome!). It breaks away (in a sense) from the previous generations. Ability to choose between Hira-Kata and Kanji!!
Minus: Pokemon not as impressive as last gen. The interface is not as touch friendly as HGSS. The C-Gear is annoying and useless to us not in Japan.
But overall, I really love this game, especially because of all the major graphics improvement =D Way to go, Nintendo and Pokemon Company!

This game is really a bit different from earlier Pokémon games. In the beginning there are only new Pokémon and there are so many animations that are just awesome and rich in detail. Plus, it is now possible to switch from Kana (Hiragana + Katakana) to Kanji and the other way around in the game settings. Gamefreak really did a great job!! A must have for all
Although this is definitely a great game, there is one annoying thing … it is region locked and not playable on non Japanese DSi consoles, so you need a DS or DS lite console from your Region. I hope 3DS games won't generally be locked…

I had great expectations about this game and they got filled and even more. Trading is a lot faster, new items go to the top of the list when you find them, you can register - if you like - all key items and select them individually, Vending Machines are everywhere... They really exceeded theirselves on this game, you have to buy it =D

The game is huge (and I mean huge!), the graphics are far more updated than ever before, the music is catchy, and the so called "extra" plot draws you in so quickly, you'll forget you're supposed to be collecting badges. The interesting characters and amazing new Pokemon will keep you engaged for hours. It's obvious so much work went into these games, and I am extremely impressed. I do not hesitate in saying that these are the Best Pokemon Games in the franchise so far!

I find this game to be one of the best of the Pokemon series. It is new, it is refreshing, and after the main playthrough you can still go back to those old favorites. Great Game!
This game is by far the best out of the entire series in addition to Yellow/Gold/Silver/Crystal. I may not remeber any of my japanese but the game is wonderful and makes me look forward to the US release next spring! Can't wait!!!

Game Freak has out done themselves again. Aside from the new pokemon in the game my favorite thing is the updated graphics, every time they make a new Generation I have a hard time going back to the old ones. It is so hard trying to play emerald anymore because the difference in graphics is just to much and makes me feel likes its laking (i really hope they remake the games for GBA again as DS games). Anyway the music is also fantastic, i wish i had a CD or digital copy so i could listen to the tracks anywhere. The other greatest thing after all of that is all the new abilities for old Pokemon through the Dream World function of the game, i cant wait to start using Drought Ninetales.

Not Bad
Everything is good except there are only 8 PC boxes when there should be 24. The pokeshifter doesnt work with my english Pokemon Pearl. I found out you need a japanese 4th gen pokemon game to use the pokeshifter. But English 4th gen with english 5th gen will work fine. I'd give it 9.5/10.0

Could it get any better
This is just the coolest and best pokemon game that I played couldn't stop playing because I wanted to find out what was going to happen... The graphics are just awesome the trading on it is great it goes by so much faster then the older games

If you've palyed the earlier installments you'll fall in love with this game. They really force you to "start all over" in terms of raising pokemon and traveling the region and it makes the game seem really fresh. Lots of nice additions. I've been playing the game (White) slowly, so even over half a month later, I've only got 6 badges... Not to mention, I am a college student who cares about his studies.
But even playing it slowly and occasionally getting spoiled about the new pokemon online, I still find myself surprised as I turn every corner in the game...! For older and skeptical players, there's nothing wrong with this generation except what it looks like on the outside (pokemon designs, etc.). The inside is spectacular and an expansion of the older games that tosses what doesn't work and brings in newer, optional ideas to keep you exploring~
If I had a single complaint, it would be the daily time limit on the Global Link, and the dependence on the website to be able to connect to the Dream World and aesthetically change some devices in the game (as least with the pictures, since you can change the organization of them in-game).
But the creators didn't expect so many people to connect, which led them to place an understandable limit, so I guess it's not THAT big a deal. They might be able to fix it later on, too. Especially for the English release.
Surely, I'll be getting Black in English when it comes out~

If I had a single complaint, it would be the daily time limit on the Global Link, and the dependence on the website to be able to connect to the Dream World and aesthetically change some devices in the game (as least with the pictures, since you can change the organization of them in-game).
But the creators didn't expect so many people to connect, which led them to place an understandable limit, so I guess it's not THAT big a deal. They might be able to fix it later on, too. Especially for the English release.
Surely, I'll be getting Black in English when it comes out~

Best Pokemon game I've played yet really
I'll admit right off the bat I'm a pokenut and I probably would've bought this game regardless of the reviews, but I can honestly say that this is quite frankly the most polished pokemon game I've ever played (at least until the inevitable third version comes out in 2-3 years lol) and it really shows. Completely wiping the slate of usable pokemon clean and only being able to use new pokes until postgame really made this game feel exciting and new. Every new route you run into the grass thinking oh boy what can I can in here!? No longer will you have to wade through zubats and geodudes to find some new pokemon. Not to mention they shake up the formula a bit by giving us Ulimited TM's ( Which isn't broken ingame due to the fact that the good ones cost alot of money and awesome ones like earthquake, stone edge and the like are post-game only) along with a new evil team that actually sticks with the games plot longer than any of the others did. All in all this game has really risen the bar for an awesome pokemon game and it really is a must for anyone who loves or even likes pokemon.

The Best of the Best
Having been an avid Pokemon fan since I was in kindergarten, I've always loved the series, whether it included the anime, the manga, the spin-off comics, or the amazing games that the Pokemon Company continues to create. As such, I've played my share of all the Pokemon adventure games, and I have to honestly say that the new Pokemon Black and White Versions are the best ones yet! Not only are the graphics STUNNING, but the music is to die for, and all the new Pokemon are very interesting and awesome. I find myself playing it even when I'm trying to do other things, and it's extremely hard to put my DS Lite down after I save. I'm so eager to see how this is translated come next March for the American release, but for right now, I'm enjoying everything I can in the game, even with my basic knowledge of the Japanese language. I love it. This shows that future Pokemon games are going to be a blast! I'm so excited! Wonderful work, Nintendo! Now hurry up with the American releases so I can know the whole story through experiencing it! :D

This game is absolutely the best Pokémon-game I have ever played! If you liked Pokémon Red and Blue I suggest you to check out Pokémon Black and White. This game sure brings memories and gives new ones. The only negative about the game is the poor designs of the Pokémon's in this generation of Pokémon.

Having played through Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow, Crystal, Fire Red, Leaf Green, Gale of Darkness, Pearl, Platinum, Soul Silver, and Heart Gold (JPN), I can say that Pokemon Black Version (JPN) is the best that TPCi has produced so far. The graphical enhancements are nice. The menus, animations, and cameras are all quick and smooth. They've definitely raised the bar for this new generation.
I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a deep, complex RPG with tons of exploration and literally infinite (not kidding) play time.

My Japanese is not very good, so I can't appreciate this as much as I'd like, but from the moment you turn this game on, you'll notice it's not your father's Pokemon, so to speak. The visuals are really striking, and even though they release new characters almost every game, these seem to have more thought given somehow. Can't give it a full review yet, but first impressions are certainly good, and really wow you right from the get-go.

This Generation of Pokemon games is definately the best so far in my opinion, and I've been with the series since the beginning. Awesome new mechanics build on what's loved in the previous games, so it's new without being too extremely different from the past. Battles still play out the same, but constantly moving sprites and a dynamic camera make battles more appealing to watch than ever before!
Gen 5 introduces the most new species of Pokemon of any gen, so there's so many to like. Even if a few aren't as lovable as others, they all grew on me as I tried once again to catch 'em all.
Even without being able to understand Japanese, I'm still enjoying the story a lot, too. I love the older main characters, and the evil Team Plasma are pretty cool(and have the most awesome battle music ever!). The Gym puzzles are fun, and I really love their designs. They all seem to serve a second purpose apart from the Pokemon Gym, one being a restaurant, another being a museum, and even one being an amusement park ride. These designs really work well with the Gym puzzles and type themes.
So, once again, 5th Gen is by far my favorite. There's so much to do and see in Isshu, so I highly recommend these games!

I checked the mailbox for 10 days in a row for the game. On the 11th day, it arrived. (I should have paid extra for the quick shipping.) I love the game and have already beaten it. The battles and wild pokemon are awesome because they are close to your pokemon levels. I love the short clips. They have so much good graphics, and they game is just great. I'm playing the post-game and so far it's great.

I will have to say nicely done, although the region lock incidents, and unable to transfer pokemon due to different region (for instance, you can't transfer pokemon if you are using a Jpn white and an American Plat to send over pokemon) is quite annoying and bothersome. I have not been able to use the Pass By mode, which, I hope if I am in Japan, I will be able to get a handful of the experience it is supposed to offer.
The game itself is nicely done, and very beautiful. Great way to force people to use new pokemons in the beginning, and then gradually integrate the older generations in. New battle methods puts another degree into battling, and the never ending TMs are wonderful now that I don't have to farm them (although, it also means I can't bring about my berry collections)!

This game rules, as a long time pokemon fan I absolutely love how they took advantage of the 3d capabilities of the DS and used them to thier fullest, sure some of the new pokemon are skeptical compared to thier older counterparts, but to each generation it's own.

Pokemon White!!!
So I got this on Tuesday Oct.5th and I haven't been able to put it down. I chose the cheapest shipping and the speed of it was not a problem because the wait was worth it!! The game is great, amazing graphics, nice music, and it's all a great refreshing mix to pokemon and anyone will love it.

Awesome sauce!
Fun game! The 3-D graphics are nice and I like how animated the characters are. The soundtrack is also nice. Unfortunately, you have to hold B to use the running shoes, but I guess that's a small gripe. I recommend it!

This game is amazing!
The graphics are a huge improvement over the previous titles. The sprites now move during battle, and each one has its own unique movement which a a very cool addition. The details in each town and area are really cool as well. For example, the gyms look really neat this time around, there is even a roller coaster gym! Also, the Elite Four looks even cooler. Each room is incredibly detailed far more than in diamond and pearl.
The new pokemon designs, in my opinion, are light-years better then generation 4, but some of them are a little lacking. I think a few would have looked a bit better if the colors weren't as dull. However, I have warmed up to most of them and I did find it very difficult to choose a team of 6 because there are very many extraordinary pokemon and many cute ones.
If you are worried about not knowing Japanese, have no fear! I find it very simple to go through the game. The only thing you miss out on is the story and dialogue, which if you can still experience if you but the second version in your own language.
Play-Asia's shipping and service was great. This was my first purchase from them and it came very fast!
Overall, I would say that buying Pokemon Black or White is a MUST! It is in my opinion the greatest Pokemon game yet!

I personally, was so excited for this game. It was my first Japanese purchase and I was thrilled. As soon as I got this game, I began playing nonstop! Although I can barely read Japanese, I noticed that Nintendo really put a lot of hard work and time into this game. I especially loved the 3D effects, like on the way to Huin City. If you're a true pokemon fan, you wouldn't want to miss this masterpiece.

One of the best! The scenery is much improved, and a must have for any fan of pokemon! All fans can thoroughly enjoy this game! Can't read a word of japanese? No problem! I bought this game like that, and I finished the game with no problems at all! Just clarifying, this game will work on US consoles. Just not the dsi and XL. I can't recomend this game more!

I'd have to say that this game is easily the second best out there. First being the Generation 2 of (Heart)Gold/(Soul)Silver in my humble opinion. AMAZING graphics, awesome music, the moving sprites and camera during a battle are a welcome new addition, too.

In some places, the encounter rate feels higher than usual and makes it extremely tiresome to move through those areas without Repels.
I would still recommend this whole-heartedly to any pokemon fan, and anyone who enjoys a good RPG.

A Truly New Generation for Pokemon
It's been four years since the last generation of Pokemon was released, and I have to say, it was well worth the wait!
At the first glance, this seems like just another Pokemon game, but there has been so many upgrades since the previous games. From the 3D perspective graphics, the animated sprites, to the new 156, there are more and more surprises to be discovered as you play the game!
This game is great for everyone, fun for people old and new to the series! It's a very successful "reboot" of the series, as if you're playing a new game series. I myself have logged over 24 hours of gameplay and I'm not even finished with the main plot, not to mention the online features new to this generation!
Overall, this is a must get for anyone who's been playing the Pokemon series AND for anyone who's been curious about Pokemon. I hope everyone will have fun with Pokemon Black as I am having!
It's been four years since the last generation of Pokemon was released, and I have to say, it was well worth the wait!
At the first glance, this seems like just another Pokemon game, but there has been so many upgrades since the previous games. From the 3D perspective graphics, the animated sprites, to the new 156, there are more and more surprises to be discovered as you play the game!
This game is great for everyone, fun for people old and new to the series! It's a very successful "reboot" of the series, as if you're playing a new game series. I myself have logged over 24 hours of gameplay and I'm not even finished with the main plot, not to mention the online features new to this generation!
Overall, this is a must get for anyone who's been playing the Pokemon series AND for anyone who's been curious about Pokemon. I hope everyone will have fun with Pokemon Black as I am having!

More of the same, just ten times better
For fans of the older pokemon games, this one takes the cake. Animated battles, tons of new pokemon, and a much better story - this game feels like a brand new generation.
Although some features are strangely missing [you can't rebattle random trainers, there is no auto level 100 battles on wi-fi any longer, and other minor things] the game is still very filled with things to do.
I would highly recommend fans of the past pokemon games to get this one and add it to their collection. If you can read Japanese, great. If you can't, you can still have fun with it anyways.

Pokémon Black Review
I first started playing Pokémon in 2002 with Pokémon Blue Version. But other games were already out and I got Red, Yellow, Silver, and Crystal. I thought 2nd gen was amazing! Then I Ruby and Sapphire came out which was very nostalgic since I spent the most time with my friends with it at that age. I waited 2 years for Diamond and Pearl (that is, waiting since I'd first heard of it).
When I heard of Pokémon Black, I thought it wasn't going to be as good as the first three gens, worse or equal to 4th gen (mind you, HeartGold and SoulSilver were awesome though). But as more details came out, I realized just how amazing it is! I love Pokémon Black and its an amazing Pokémon game. White is amazing too, its just a preference. These games are a must-have for Pokémon fans. The plot is good for a Pokémon game and it has fantastic new Triple Battles and Rotation Battles. The graphics and effects are phonominal and the battles are quicker and in constant action which the camera angles always changing. 10/5 stars! ;)

A must have
This pokemon game is by far the best in the series next to the original Gold and Silver. There is so much gameplay packed into this its just un-beliveable, if your a fan of pokemon you'll enojoy this game so much and even if your not a fan the game only introduces the new pokemon of the region so its easy for new players to jump into the game

Superb!
Pokemon Black had me in awe with its amazing graphics. It really set the bar for any other DS game! To top it off, awesome music and the 3-way battles are just amazing. Loved it!

Pokemon White
This is one of the best entries to this series. New monsters, new modes, and new techniques make this game incredible even to a non japanese reading person like me. I only have 2 problems with the BW games. First would be the the lack of auto run that was presented in HG/SS. Second would be not having your pokemon following you, again in HG/SS. A last minor complaint is that you can not transfer machine or pokeshift from an American 4th gen game. All in all still worth every penny and then some.

It just gets better and better
I have been a long time fan of the Pokemon games and have always looked forward to what GameFreak will do next. I was very intrigued by what I saw of Black and White and was excited to play it.
When I popped White into my DS and fired it up for the first time, it was magic.
The graphics are not a major improvement from the previous games, but they've been polished and the use of 3D has been upped. The new camera is more dynamic and gives it a great feel. This is also seen in the new battle system, when the camera will zoom and pan on it's own. The dynamic battle animations the Pokemon have now are a welcome change as well.
The music is great. I've always loved Pokemon's music and the music from these games is easily as good as any of the previous games. It's very unique and there are tons of catchy songs. Even the annoying beeping sound that plays when you're Pokemon has low health was made into a catchy tune that gives a sense of urgency.
I can't say too much for the story since my Japanese is far from adequate to understand most of the story. I can read everything, but I can only make sense of about 10% of it. If you're interested in how the story is, you'll have to look elsewhere, but it seems to be the pretty standard Pokemon story. The formula of getting a grass/fire/water starter, challenging gyms, beating an evil organization, etc. is still the basis, but many people have come to expect that. This story, as little as I do understand, seems like it does have some potential to be a little more original and intriguing than the other games, but don't quote me on that.
Also, this region is all new, with 156 new Pokemon (that's the most they've ever added in one generation). And up until you beat the Elite 4, you'll see nothing but new Pokemon. That's right, you don't have to wade through Geodudes and Zubats to find that cool new Pokemon that you want for your team. You will only encounter the Pokemon introduced this generation until you beat the Elite 4, at which point many of the previous Pokemon will become obtainable.
All in all, though, it's everything that I (and millions of others) have come to love about Pokemon with some great additions and enhancements. If you're itching for the next great Pokemon game, this is definitely one to buy. If you're somewhat intrigued, you might want to look into a bit more before you decide to buy or just wait a few months for it to release in the other regions. Either way, if you've ever enjoyed a Pokemon game, or ever considered trying it out, this is a great one to get.

Pokemon has really reached a new level with Black and White. New Pokemon, Graphics, Gameplay Features, Characters and WiFi capabilities really make this game amazing and a huge step up from previous main-series Pokemon games. It's a very beautiful game, having a step up on previous versions. The menu's are stylish and easy to read. Another bonus about this game is that you have the option to use kanji or use hirigana and katakana only.
It's a great game in the line of Pokemon and I'm looking forward to the English release so I can fully understand the story because from what I can read it's interesting!

This is definitely one of the best (if not THE best) Pokemon games so far. There's no need to learn Japanese--the game is very easy to follow for non-speakers (I found myself looking up attack names but that was easy to do with so much info up online).
Pokemon Black and White have brought tons of new features to the series. Triple battles, rotation battles, Dream World, more WiFi stuff, Battle Subway, animated battle sprites (which make the battles seem much livelier), really neat cutscenes, new level/experience balance, etc. etc.
Overall I'm very happy with the game (and the great service that Play-Asia always offers).

A phrase that Nintendo has used for some years now. They have started whit red & blue on the gameboy and now there here with the 5th generation of pokémons. Alot has change over time and there are so many awesome creatures to collect, catch, train and love. This game gives a few more stuff than the previous pokémon games. They have added some great new features as the C-gear. Not only that the story is more active than other games before. For the non pokémon fans this game can be seen as an RPG and if you really like to play that gerne then you might like this one. You may think its for little kids but the grown ups can go more into detailed training and breeding. You can have alot of hours of fun. But i can also chalk up more time than you think as you are being drawn to it by the amazing concept of the game. The music in the games has been good before but whit this new one we also get some newish music and themes which are also a great addition to this new pokémon game. To me it's one of the better games on Nintendo. A must for every Pokémon Fan, A must for every RPG fan and a must for everyone else who have never played it before cause if you do your going to be hooked!.

Once again, game freak pushes the limit and gets me hooked on the series like a drug addict is to cocaine-- Oh wait my bad that was inappropriate... But sadly, it's the only way to compare my situation here with this game. If you've played pokémon before, don't shy away from this title because it's in Japanese; I don't read Japanese and I am going smoothly through the game as you read this review. The new pokémon are rather strange at times, but I am warming up to them, except a few rare exceptions of course. Now, notably, the sprites in this game are animated-- a very nice touch that makes everything even more dynamic. Speaking of dynamism! The music also changes every now and then, according to how you battle goes; Say you're in the red hp, the music gets stressful. And if you're about to win against a gym leader, when they are at their last pokémon, the music gets all epic, making you feel like you're very close to victory ( but this is not always the case, trust me! ).

First all, Play-Asia's usual incredible service, dedication, and hard work paid off here. It's what keeps me coming back. Anyway, the game itself is absolutely fantastic. Old and new fans alike can appreciate this game as it is a reinvention of the franchise, but keeps a lot of the integral factors that make Pokémon RPGs Pokémon RPGs. In short, don't worry that the series has been ruined. If anything, as a very oldschool fan, it's a welcome freshness. The game is very easy to play even without knowing Japanese, and knowing it, of course, makes the experience even better. Fantastic addition to the series and a recommended buy for more than just kids.

The Best So Far (In my humble opinion)
I was so excited for Pokémon White that I just had to get it now instead of waiting like I usually do. 6 months just seems too far away!
Anyway, I recently finished the game and I loved every bit of it. Although I don't know what is being said, I can tell that they really did put a ton of polish into the games. I didn't get to use the DSi features as I do not own a Japanese DSi. But don't let it stop you if you want it.
I am really happy to see some references to American culture within the game, and it makes me feel like Nintendo/GameFreak appreciate the Pokémon fanbase worldwide.
I always buy both versions, so I will purchase Black in English upon release. You should definitely get this if you don't care about reading the story at the moment.

Best Pokemon Game So Far!
The 3D graphics of the game really blew me away. I was pleasantly surprised by it. The storyline is very engaging it keeps you interested and there are plenty of pokemon to keep you occupied. I say in my opinion this is the best pokemon to date. I personally rather it more than the rest and don't think i'll ever look at the old games the same again!

Definitely a Good Re-start.
When GameFreak announced that they wanted Black and White to be similar to Generation I (Red/Green in Japan, and Red/Blue elsewhere) I was sceptical. Having played Pokémon Red during my youth, I doubted they could emulate such a euphoric experience. 11 years on, still as much of a Pokémaniac as ever, I got this game...and I was blown away.
GameFreak's decision to only include new Pokémon during the game's main story was a fabulous idea, as it does give the feel of fresh discovery. Obviously, there are replacements (Koromori, Dangoro and Basurao will end up annoying you) and a Fire/Fighting starter combination again, but looking beyond them, we finally have a pure-Flying type, an incredibly defensive Grass/Steel and Pokémon based on ice cream!
The story is also a lot more intense than that of previous games. N definitely has to be the most developed villain in the franchise, and the story's climax is so beautiful and touching that you have to ask yourself if you're playing a Pokémon game. The way the credits come up, and the music that plays during them, really makes it feel like an achievement.
Rotation Battles are insanely fun, and may have even replaced doubles as my favourite method of battling. Triples can feel a bit mundane though.
One negative point though, is that the Gym Leaders are far too easy. The Elite 4 is too, the first time you face them (beyond that, they're evil!), and the types of the last two gym leaders emulates that of the last Generation IV pair.
Although they have their flaws, "Pokémon Black Version" and "Pokémon White Version" are definitely the best in the franchise so far.

This game is pricy but well worth the money and t he time it took to get here (1 1/2 weeks).I was able to play through the game without learning any japanese and still now what was going on. The pokemon company gave pokemon a complete facelift. THIS GAME IS VERY IMPORT FRIENDLY! A real Joy to play through. This generation may have some ugly pokemon but it delivers incredible gameplay.

Love it!!
I just got my copy today, and I must say that this is the best of the series! I mean the graphics are A class, and the cut scenes are simply beautiful. If you haven't played pokemon (Where the heck have you been?!), or are an old trainer looking to jump back in, this game is for you.

AMAZING 40/40
Great game! Really one of the best pokemon games ever! Its like a never ending adventure, seriously! All the new pokemon are great, as well as the graphics! A must have for anyone who owns a DS. Seriously, You wont regret it!

This has to be one of the best in the Pokemon franchise. The guys over at Nintendo didn't spare anything in this orginal, and memorable, title. If you haven't picked up a copy yet, then you don't know what you are missing out on.
This has to be one of the best in the Pokemon franchise. The guys over at Nintendo didn't spare anything in this orginal, and memorable, title. If you haven't picked up a copy yet, then you don't know what you are missing out on.

Mind Blowing!!
My Pokemon White came in yesterday and i am enjoying every second of it!! The graphics and gameplay are just mind blowing! The music is also pretty awesome! This game deserve a 5/5!!! I think this game is my new number 1 favorite above G/S/C!!!

A reinvention!
Pokémon Black and White versions were lucky enough to recieve 40/40 in Famitsu. In my personal opinion, they deserved every point they earned. Pokémon Black and White do an amazing job of giving the franchise a fresh new list of Pokémon, while at the same time adding new mechanics (the dynamic camera is one of my favourites). The game also suceeds in maintaining what made the franchise sucessful in the first place. If you are a Pokémon fan, or are interested in trying one out, You cannot go wrong with Black and White.

Game Evolution
The game itself has evovled a lot from previous generation. Amazing graphics, background music and sound effect. In some cut sceans you can't believe NDS could produce such great visual effect.
Not only they added 150+ new pokemons, the old pokemons also receives new ability that completely changed your old play style. This is a must buy for all pokemon fans.

Very Satisfied
I was thinking before I got it that it wouldn't be very good (for some reason) in comparison to the previous generations. I must say, i was proven wrong. This is probably one of the best Pokemon games to date, and the story line is very interesting as well. Nintendo took a big step forward with they effort they put into Pokemon games with this one. The new Kanji system is helpful (now i don't have to trudge through constant Hira/kata as much), and the new battle animations keep you from spacing out in battles ( which i used to do alot ^_^'). This is a must get for any Pokemon fan.

Amazing ^^
The games are a nice refresh from the other games in the series. Not being able to transfer any of the older generation Pokemon until much later (a privilege I haven't received yet) gives the series feel that makes it feel like playing my first Pokemon game for the first time.

Best Pokemon games so far!
My Pokemon Black came in the post yesterday, I started playing straight away! Worth the wait! This game is amazing, whole new generation, whole new region simply outstanding.

Worth it!
This is the FIRST ds game to have such pure graphics such as black and white. If gotten in japanese it must be worth alot one day, I collect all my pokemon games in japanese. I am still waiting for my copy but its worth it, I say GO FOR IT!

Best Game Ever!!
When I first saw the intro of Pokemon Black. I knew I was going to be in for a whirlwind of greatness. This game is the best. Everything is improved, updated, and everything. I haven't felt this way about a Pokemon game since the Original games. I'm so glad that Gamefreak delivered a great game finally. Ever since the 3rd and 4th gen I've been worried. But this game, aww man. I haven't felt this hyped up since they announced that they where remaking Pokemon Gold and Silver. Great job Gamefreak.

Grand improvement!!
This game is awesome! it's waay better than it's previous generations. Almost everything has been improved but the original pokemon touch to the game is still there! so it doesn't lose its amazing experience.
If u are a pokemon fan or were one I strongly encourage you check this game out! It's loads of fun :)

A breath of fresh air
This game delivered and thank God it did. I was really starting to lose hope that Game Freak would ever do anything to spice this series up. Playing this for the first time is really bringing back memories of playing Red and Blue for the first time. And it works on DS and DS Lite of any region, when putting it in your domestic DSi or XL it will not even read the game. And by the way, the music in this game is AWESOME! The best since Gold and Silver.
