Fantastic portable system I ordered the GP2X in December 2006 from play-asia and cannot begin to say how great this portable entertainment device is! Play Asia shipped it to me extremely quickly and even threw in some asian candy (I'm in the USA) and some stickers just for fun! I was very pleased with their service and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. If you've gotten this far you're already aware of the great possibilities that this device allows so get one and see for yourself!

nice little console I've just received my GP2X from Play-Asia and I'm pleased for the fast delivery. Nice little game console with a bright and big screen, capable of playing open source games and applications. Thanks Gamepark Holdings, Thanks Play-Asia!

Gp2x: The best The Gp2x, a poweful little device created by game park holdings, was recentely ordered and shipped to me using play asia. Unlike many other gaming consoles, the gp2x is a little more complicated to use and requires some patience to get things working on it. But once you see it run something, you will be impressed.
The list of game's for this device is not as big as others company's game consoles, but the gp2x makes up for it by using an open-source style. This means that developers at home will easily be able to release created games and aplications for anyone to download onto their system using a usb cable all for free.
Because running all this equipment and a very bright lcd screen is going to take alot of power, your double A batteries arent going to last long. This is why I recomend Buying a power chord along with it.
Overall the GP2x can: Download music, games, pictures, text files, and movies. And the screen wich features high quality picture, and its abbility to give you almost perfect sound, make this little toy one of the greatest handeheld multimedia devices out there.

Great Personal Entertainment Player! I've always wanted a portable media player that can be updated to play almost all media types... and now I have it! :D

Gamepark GP2X is the best portable system ever The gp2x is the coolest gadget ever it fits in the pocket so well no other portable system fits in a pocket like the gp2x.
The best thing about gp2x it has all the features likes of video,music,photo,games,e-book,applications one of thing appeals to me about the gp2x is emulators and applications which are free which are easy to find over the internet the only thing that a person buys is just the gp2x and that's it with media capabilities and awesome homebrew and playing various game systems is the greatest thing ever i recommened everyone should buy one of these amazing game system you won't be disappointed with it.

Prestan Garma on 11, Nov. 2006 13:20 (HKT)
Better than a psp I'd like to say that gp2x is better than psp because it is easier to get homebrew, and you don't have to buy all those expensive gadgets to get what you need.

Best media player ever! This is the best media player ever. I've used it non-stop (i've been playing Sonic :-)). The only bad thing about the GP2X is that it needs a memory card. I still need to get a big one because I bout this to play my music and emulate game systems. For music playing, it is perfect. It has better options for playing music than my iPod does! Playing video is also very nice. And with each new firmware upgrade, better features keep getting added. I would reccomend this system to ANYBODY!
aquafox90(1) on 03, Nov. 2006 14:42 (HKT)
GP2X more pros than cons The best thing about this system is the developer's community games constantly making them and porting them. Emulators are ported well and play the classic games with ease. Some people got PSX working on it.
Beware, it depends on many 3rd party items though. Such as rechargeable AA batteries (2300 mAh will do) a DC adapter and an SD card... Once you have those you're ready to go.
Definitely order this from Play-Asia. They're service is GREAT. I got mine within five days using EMS Speedpost. 3 days to actually package it, 2 days to reach here. Even if I'm on the other side of the world.

No title Fantastic. I'm absolutely LOVING playing all those old ROM's i've been collecting over the years. It's worth it just for that. Haven't tried the ebook reader, but really looking forward to that as I have a huge collection of books.
I just wish there was more software out there for it. Thankfully it's built on open source so given enough time there will be. Very very happy ^_^
kamron_1(1) on 26, Sep. 2006 13:59 (HKT)
Superb All-around an excellent device, great community so there is a mass of great homebrew and emulators out there, many of which will do 100% speed emulation. This is expecially useful for programmers, as it is an open platform, and because it is running linux, it is easier to program for the GP2X. You do have some rough edges with battery life though, depending on what you're running on the GP2X, the battery can range from 5 hours to 2 hours or less. It is advisable to get rechargable batteries, or the official power adaptor, as batteries drain quickly.

the best i ordered gp2x from US on monday and it arrived in my front door on Thursday the same week i ordered... The service is good and high recommended. I tested my GP2X right away after i got it, and it work really well :) Good for traveling because of the AA batteries (could play in the airplane if you're in for a long flight) but make sure to get the rechargables battery because first i used a regular battery and only last 15 minutes :( Thank you Play-asia

Great System for Classic Gaming Emulation If your into classic gaming emulation on your pc,and wish you could take it on the go,then this system is for you(Plain and simple). If you want to play WiFi games against your friends over the web,or play the latest high tech games on the market, then get a DS or PSP(2 great systems also). This system is strictly for the homebrew and emulation scene. If your looking for music and video on the go,this system has you covered.I don't use it for music and video, but if you have that itch, the GP2X can scratch it.I bought this system a little over a month ago and have not been able to but it down ever since.I'm only interested in playing emulated old school games.I have a 4GB SD card, and I now have almost a complete 30+ year history of video gaming on one device.I don't know what some of the the guys who gave bad reviews where looking for.I just like being able to play all the classics at my fingertips (2600,intellivision,colecovision,5200,7800,NES,SNES, Genesis,Gameboy,Gamegear,Mastersystem,Arcade:Mame, NeoGeo,NeogeoPocket, and the list go's on and on) Now alot of these emulators run near perfect, but some have a ways to go.But this system is worth it just for the Genesis,Mame, and Pc engine emulators alone. In the short time I've had this sytem, several of the emulators available have gone from about 80% to close to 100% in just 1 1/2 months time. The community here is just awesome, open and thriving in every possible way.No coperate BS like you get from Sony and the PSP(I love my PSP,just way to much trouble to try and play homebrew and emulators). There are a few things you should know if you plan to get this AWESOME handheld.First you need some high level rechargable AA batteries(at least 2500mah:you'll get 3-6hours from good ones),this system is like a pocket PC,and trying to run it off of standard alkaline just won't work, unless you want to change batteries every 20-30 minutes(yeah it sucks em up that fast). The second thing you'll need is a card reader for your PC.You can hook the system up using the included usb cable, but it takes way to long to transfer files to the SD card this way,and saps the power like there is no tommorow from the GP2X.Also if you get a high capacity SD card, the card reader is sometimes the only way to format the card to it's true capacity.Get a case if you think you might need one,but alot of standard DS cases work very well. The best thing about this system is once your all set up,You never need to buy anything again.Everything is available FREE on the web.So for the cost of a PSP w/1gig memory stick and no game, you can get the GP2X a 2-4gb sd card, rechargable batteries,a card reader and a UNLIMITED amount of 30 years of arcade and home console games for the same price. You make the call!
P.S. Play-Asia service is top notch! My system arrived within 2 days of ordering(Hong Kong to Las Vegas)

No title bakakun101 , I think that you miss the main point , Sony will never produce a machine as good as this one if they don't have an open approach to homebrew development .
The PSP is an interesting machine , but it can't come close to all the possibilities that the GP2X has on offer ... And , the PSP , the PSP games , and all the PSP accessories are very expensive .
matheson86(1) on 02, Jun. 2006 06:01 (HKT)
Excellent device if you're willing to fiddle around. Review of MK2: June 1 - 2006
Once you get everything working and tweaked, the emulated games on this thing absolutley rock. As an overall package, it is better than the PSP with emulation, by far. Here's where things stand:
* Note: You have to tweak many of these emulators to get the most out of them. (ie: Overclock 266 MHZ with 11025 sound etc...)
Neo Neo - "Almost" perfect. Enabling sound seems to slow things down a bit in places. Metal Slugs 1-5 are great to play on this machine. w/ sound 85-90%, no sound 100%.
Genesis = "Perfect" 110% 60fps in most games. Wow.
Mame: Currently Older games .34 romset are only suported. Works very well if you can find the right ROM. I'd give it 75%. (It has a sweet mode for playing shooters vertically though)
TurboGrafx: Pretty Good, 85% w/ sound 100% No Sound
SNES: Needs work. I got Super Fire Pro Wrestling X Premium working though. 90% No Sound, 50% w. sound.
Oh yeah and you can play Duke Nukem 3D, Quake, and a whole bunch of other stuff as well. Works great with xvid movies and it plays mp3's!. USB connnectibity if fixed as well.
So if you are into the emuation scene, like tweaking your emulators and want a device that plays emualted games, mp3's and movies it's an absolute must buy.
Oh yeah, get an adaptor for this and some 2500mah rechargable batteries as well.

Technical Issue! I just got my GP2X two days ago, so I felt really excited about it. However, when I was trying to connect it with PC, it didn't work. I had followed all the instruction to start with my GP2X, but..... There's some problems come out from the USB connection. I am still trying to find out what is going on. Actually, I am so disappointed about this product, because I can't do anything to it without connecting with PC now.
Well, thanks Play-Asia anyway. The delivery was so quick, I was pretty satisfied for that.

Ok, ok here is the real deal..... Ok this is the real deal about the system....first of all Im big on game emulation and I love the fact that you can play systems like mame and snes and genesis on portable systems and well judging that I have been game emulating for a long time like 10 years......the GP2X portable game system is a system of its own and well the fact that it doesnt have wifi or beaming equipment on it doesnt hinder you from this product but having this GP2X system is like a step back because playing with the PSP and knowing all the emulation programs that out there for the psp they play a whole lot better than the GP2X because only a small amount of people have this system there is not alot of developers trying to work on it and I have played mame on the GP2X and its like taking a step back in progress I mean I went to the website and checked out the power this machine supposed to have and from what I have seen I am a little disappointed.....for those that dont mind the small set back then this is your best bet but as for the ones that have the PSP with the 1.0 version and the 1.5 versions stay where you at because you can always get more memory even the ones with 2.0 and 2.5, 2.6 just get GTA and still you have the power but if you like to wait for emulation to pick up for this GP2X go right ahead because its going to be a long while.!!!

Thanks Play Asia Speedy delivery. I ordered on the afternoon of 3/9 and by 9am on 3/11 it was at my doorstep in Japan. Awesome service. GP2X is an awesome system, however it does take a bit of work as stated above. You can't ask for more; it plays mp3's all my roms, video and much more. To top it all of its open source. Thanks Gamepark Holdings!!!

PSP Vs. GP2X? It's a nice system, but if Sony has to run up against this, it won't be hard for them to easily develope an upgrade to enable a 'Text' or 'Document' option for the PSP to make Word files, and the PSP can already play TV playback if you get the proper stand for it with the 2.60 Upgrade.
To be honest it seems like a Downgraded PSP..

Thank You Play Asia I just got my GP2X in Ireland after only 5 working days, great job guys. The console takes a bit of work, but it's worth it. V.A.T. here in the republic is a killer, so these imports are expensive. For the average punter, I would strongly suggest sticking with PSP.

An excellent purchase and a perfect service from play-asia This is the first time I buy from another country, and you can bet I will do it again.
I can't believe how fast the shipping was. The package included the GP2X console I bought and some extra gifts, I had a really good surprise when it arrived home. About the console, GP2X is as I expected, great for those who want to play emulators in a reliable and fast hardware, and the video playback is better than I thought. And best of all, I can play my own linux games with minor changes!

Great but not yet complete As this product still has not hit mainstream market (around March) all of the firmware bugs have not yet been ironed out. I do have mine now, however, and it is still proving to be a little bundle of joy; running a genesis emulator and around 50 roms near perfect. The inbuilt movie player works well and is updated in the newer firmwares.
My advice would be to wait it out until at least March if you can, but if you are _really_ dying for one (like myself :P) then order it now! (I also reccomend getting 2200+ Mah rechargable batteries and a PSU; you will need a PSU for flashing the firmware)

Can't Touch This !!!!!!!!! I preordered mine from Play-asia.com and the best thing I ever did. It was incrediable how I can play all of my movies, music and games. The games are from a very active community or you can make them yourself! Now you don't have to pay for two copies of the movie like the PSP, or the best usage I think is watching anime on.

Amazing! I ordered my gp2x from gp32z before the "official" release which means I get to deal with all of the early bugs, but despite this I love the gp2x!
Right now I have pulstar, metal slug 1, and metal slug 2 on it which I run using a neogeo cd emulator for it. I have chrono trigger, final fantasy 6 (3), and sword of mana which I run on a snes emulator for it (still rather slow, only good for rpg's). I have >50 sega genesis/megadrive games on it inluding sonic 1/2/3 and phantasy star 2/3/4 which I run using DrMDX which runs just about any game I through at it at 60 frames per second With 22khz sound and 0 frameskip! I have about 12 GB/C games which run pretty well, except that there is no rom selecter (not a big deal, you have to run a script to scan the roms and then load each game seperately) and there is no stretching (it is very small on the gp2x's higher resolution screen). I also have some nes games on it including mario and zelda. I have M.U.L.E. and a few other commodore 64 games on it which I run through frodo nearly perfectly. I have flashback (ported), Duke Nukem 3D, Quake 1, open transport tycoon deluxe, and a lot of very good homebrew games! (which are mostly ports from linux). You can find just about everything available for it right now on the gp2x archives which can be found at archive.gp2x.de
When I run out of games to play, I have two episodes of xenosaga: the animation and one of the simpsons on my SD card to watch. They are encoded to 100MB each using autogk and divx 5 (xvid isn't supported on the early firmware I have, it should be fixed in the newer firmware/s).
And all of that takes up less than 700 MB of my 1GB SD card which I bought for about $50. And whenever I get bored of playing it, i can talk to other gp2xers on #gp2x on efnet or on the www.gp32x.com forums. And if I really get ambitious I can set up dev-c++ and the sdk to begin developing games and applications for my gp2x.
If you are looking for an amazing community-driven handheld device that can emulate many older systems, play many types of media, and also has a large number of good homebrew games then the gp2x is for you!
