Nice But ... Plays Retro Games (especially SNES) games really well. I would like to play SCUMM games but after less than 6 months of ownage, my two year old decided to hand it to me, got mad after I didn't want it that very instance, and threw it against the floor. This cracked the screen and so, the touchscreen doesn't function correctly. Everything else works fine. If it wasn't for the touchscreen cracking easily, I would give it 5 stars. The battery life is fantastic. The controls are nice and everything just works.

Incredible Bought it mostly for retro gaming, and boy does it work a treat. The resolution is perfect for Mega Drive/SNES games (with lower res games being bordered), and the contrast, lack of ghosting puts the screens leagues ahead of the DS or PSP. Screen's really probably too small for movies and photos, but for gaming, it's a blast. Solid all-round.

Exactly what I was wanting, with a single short coming I've been on the hunt for a handheld system which will play videos and MP3's. I've looked and played with other devices but they've either had bad ergonomics, too big, poor screens, slow processors or just been cheap and nasty.
As soon as I saw the GP2x Wiz I was impressed, it's list of abilities was beyond what I expected or really needed.
Overclocking beyond the normal 533Mhz was a massive plus, as I knew a few higher end emulators needed the extra grunt to play the games smoothly.
I highly recommend this device for anyone wanting to get into those old console games, watch videos on the move or listen to music.
It's biggest strength is definitely the screen, it can be viewed from any angle as it's an OLED. The colours are intense and performance is brilliant.
Button layout is perfect, I've put 3+ hour sessions into it without the slightest cramp, and my hands aren't the smallest. The weight of the device didn't put any strain on the wrists.
Touchscreen was great for Scumm games.
Speaker performance is excellent, loud and clear in almost all situations.
Video playback is brilliant, most DivX/AVI videos don't need transcoding. Just drop them on and away you go. But to save space I downconverted the video to the native resolution, this takes 5 minutes.
The only flaws I really found was the sound quality for MP3 playback, I found the sound to be rather tinny. There are no equaliser settings to improve this, but as it is still being actively developed, I have no doubt it'll be improved upon in no time.
Also I purchased a highspeed SD card to make transfers faster, but connecting to it through the device meant I could only get 1/3 the speed from the SD card. It was 3x faster to plug it into an SD card reader and copy on that way.

Great handheld depending on your needs The wiz is a great handheld for emulation and other but it's not for everybody.
It's great, it's easy and painless to update. it also have a wide variety of other applications and the touch screen is a big plus.
one of the best things is how small it is making it really portable and it haves a decent battery life.
The wiz comes with and usb cable but if you're gonna transfer files constantly to your sd-card and specially if they are big files better get an sd-card reader as it the proprietary contact in the wiz ain't so fast.
That being said the wiz is great as where it stands now but if you have some patience it'll get much better later on.
So if you like to tweak and fix your games until perfection then i warmly recommend buying one now.

A must-buy for a retrogamer! An easy-to-use, stable and well manufactured handheld console for all the retro nerds out there. I've got zero complaints about it, everything has been smooth sailing since Wiz arrived in mail. Emulators work great, the console itself functions firmly and it's easy to use.

Very nice. I got this for my wife to play retro games. I was able to find several console emulators for it. The screen is small but bright, the sound is good. She is really happy with it.

Great It does the job it wants to!
Run emulators pretty good (all I tried at least),the casual embeded games are pretty simple, but they're fine. I don't have any issue about the buttons.
It lacks "exclusive" games, though. But they're coming, says the site.
I'm a developer, and I use it as a handheld for my needs, like a
supermarker list and checkout.

Great Handheld The hardware is very solid, the d-pad and buttons are great. The screen is beautiful and bright, and the console is small enough to fit into most pockets. The only problem I have is that diagonal tearing is clearly visible in most games and apps (even built-in games). Apart from the tearing problem, it's pretty much perfect.

1 in the stream of reviews the package is really nice it looks really profesional
opening it up and seing that small gp2 wiz and I feelt a slight disapointment due to the small screen.
somehow I was in a beleif that the screen would at least be 3inches.
the screen has a really god brigthness contrast wich makes up for the small screen and smaller text that looks like its only a pixel high is readable without any problem.
the touch works really good after you calibrate it.
the sound is ok and even better with headphones.
the microphone works really well as long as your close to the unit (atleast 10-15cm away).
the buttons feels really high quality and so does the shell for the machine.
not so many new apps for the machine when I got it but its getting better for every day that goes by.
overall I love the machine and hate that the screen is so small even though it has touch and a pen that doesnt break when looking at it.

Wow This has to be the best console I have ever purchased.
The screen is excellant, the emulators are excellant, everything is excellant!
I do have to say though the Wiz isnt being used to its full potential......yet.
This will very soon become one of the best portable gaming consoles in the world.
My recommendation is you should buy this fantastic product.

meh I rather just use my ds with an R4 card to play snes games. Open source developers make useless emulators like old crappy atari consoles. I feel the machine is either not being used at its full potential or its just not as great as it is marketed to be. Plus the developers are torn between the Pandora who has more power (I heard), and the Wiz. Hardware is ok, nothing bad nor spectacular. I believe people overrate it because it's "for the people, by the people", so to speak, but I am disapointed. I really wanted to like this handheld, but it's just collecting dust on my shelf.

Handheld on steroids! I just got my Wiz handheld from playasia and it has already become my favorite. I wanted a handheld for the emulators and this just seems perfect. Now i can play all the arcade classics anytime i want and the music and the video player is also good with excellent stereo sound. Now i leave my ipod behind whenever I cam travelling with the wiz.

Something is missing... Whell as a developer I'm a little disapointed, no official sdk provided like it was for the GamePark32... the buttons are a little cheaps... I don't know if it's still the case but the firmware is very buggy... the hardware is certainly better but at the cost of a very bad packaging... come on GamePark I want a finished product... for now sorry but I pass...

What can I say This has to be one of the best handheld systems I have purchased to date. The screen clarity is far better than my PSP and overall feels right in you hands.
I would also like to praise Play Asia for their excellent service. Highly recommend purchasing anything from this site!

GP2X Wiz An incredible device: Weight, size, battery life, screen, quality of device&controls are excellent also. USB cable is big and clumpsy (my only complaint). I have many handhelds, but WIZ is the best one for emulators. I am eagerly waiting for PS1 emulator that uses 3D hardware of the Wiz. I'm using it for some scientific linux programs.
Highly suggested, :)

My favorite hand-held by far The GP2X is my favorite hand-held gaming unit by far. I have had it for a few weeks now and the emulators I put on it are great. It's so easy to use. The only bad thing is my dog ate my USB cable and I can't find a replacement one anywhere :(.
A lot of the learning proses is trial and error. It's a good thing the default language is English when you get it. :D Still if you have to choose between a PSP a DSi and the GP2X. Go for the GP2X.
