The military superpowers, Arcadia and Rosarian empires which control the Valentia and Oredria continents have been involved in a long drawn out war. In order to gain the upper hand in the conflict, Arcadia invaded and took over many surrounding countries, amongst them, the small Dalmaska reign. To do her part for the country, Dalmaska's Pricess Ashe joined the resistance, and met with Vaan in the process. The main character Vaan is a cheerful youth of the Hume race. Originally a citizen of Dalmaska, in his pursuit of freedom and to avenge his brother's death, he became an air pirate, flying freely in the skies of various countries. How will the story develop and what is the future of the world?
The long-awaited Final Fantasy XII is finally making its grand debut. This time, the same world view and race settings known from "Final Fantasy Tactics Advance" have been used, allowing for a seamless transition. With 3 years' development time, the game's rich story depicting the struggles of characters trying to achieve their aims against the backdrop of superpowers slugging it out surely meet gamers' expectations. Elaborate adventures are waiting in this RPG masterpiece.
This game uses an all new "Active Dimension Battle" system and no random encounter system known from its predecessors. This system combines normal field and battle screens into one, allowing one to shift the camera 360 degrees in both situations, so the player can grasp the relative positions of and distances, and then use various commands effectively to conduct the most efficient attacks.
支配 Valentia 大陸的強大軍事國家 Arcadia 帝國與支配 Orderia 大陸的 Rosarian 帝國長年處於戰爭狀態，為了要在戰爭中獲得優勢，Arcadia 帝國舉兵進攻位於兩大陸迴廊之間，佔有重要地理位置的小國家 Dalmaska 王國。為了抵抗帝國的侵略，身為 Dalmaska 王國正統王位繼承人的 Ashe 公主加入對抗帝國的解放軍，並在戰鬥的過程中與少年 Vaan 相遇。男主角的 Vaan是位 Hume 族的開朗少年，原本生活在 Dalmaska 王國，後來為了追求自由和報復弒兄之仇而成為一名空賊，嚮往在天空中自由飛行來回各地。到底故事的展開以及世界的未來會是如何呢？
讓玩者一等再等望穿秋水，多次延期的FINAL FANTASY XII終於隆重登場。此次採用與 GBA《Final Fantasy 戰略版 Advance》相同的世界觀與種族設定，帶來一氣呵成的強大氣勢。歷經長達三年的開發時間，描述在強國之間的戰爭下活躍的人物所交織的充實故事，最受玩家期待的RPG大作，必定能符合玩家們的殷切期待，等待著玩家進行這場華麗的冒險。
本代採用了嶄新的「Active Dimention Battle（動態空間戰鬥）」系統，不再沿用以往系列作的亂數遇敵系統，將一般行進畫面與戰鬥畫面合而為一，不論一般行進狀態與戰鬥狀態皆可 360 度自由調整視角，玩家將可以更自由靈活的掌握敵我角色的位置、距離等，靈活運用各式指令，發動最優勢的攻擊。
