Need for Speed SHIFT is an all-new simulation racing IP that combines the true drivers experience with real-world physics, pixel-perfect car models, and a wide range of authentic race tracks. Need for Speed SHIFT takes players in a different direction to create a simulation experience that replicates the true feeling of driving high-end performance cars.
Players are thrust into the loud, visceral, intense, athletic experience of racing a car on the edge of control from the drivers perspective through the combination of perception based G-forces, the hyper reality of the cockpit view, and the brutal experience of a first person crash dynamic. Need for Speed SHIFT features an accurate, accessible physics-based driving model that allows you to feel every impact, every change of track surface and every last bit of grip as you push yourself to the edge.
The all-new driver profile is the ultimate extension of the true drivers experience. This system gives each player a unique persona based on a players driving skill and style - aggressive or precise. Driver profile impacts how a player unlocks cars, overall career progression and online matchmaking. In Need for Speed SHIFT, how you drive is who you are behind the wheel.
Need for Speed SHIFT is being developed by Slightly Mad Studios in collaboration with Black Box and senior vice president Patrick Soderlund at EA Games Europe. Slightly Mad Studios includes developers and designers that worked on the critically acclaimed games GT Legends and GTR 2.

Must-get for racing fans
Jaw-dropping graphics and sound, especially for the driver camera, with tight controls and fleshed out campaign. And the balance between arcade and simulation is nearly flawless.

A surprisingly good NFS game.
After countless numbers of disappointment of the NFS series, this one is correcting all the problems of all the last installments made. Fantastic realism even if there's less cars but a great NFS nonetheless.
P.S. It is a different game. Not a reboot from the original!

Must buy racing game before the even better NFS:Hot pursuit II come out
If you havn't have this game, I recommend you have it.
The driving experience is so real.
Yet, a little drawback is it kinda over immitate the GT series experience. But definately great graphic and so on for such a cheap price.

Real Life Racing...
All those who wish to have a challenge on how to race a car in a fast way, this game has it all. The physics in the game are incredible and the damage and every little thing that you do, feels like in real life. It is definitely challenging and has all the current popular cars that one desires. Hours of game play will be required to master the racing of this game. Definitely a nice game to have. Enjoy the graphic while you are at it too.

Good Racing
Great graphics & sound. The tracks are also fantastic. Only criticism is the realism for damage. In the absence of Toca Touring Car or V8 Supercars for PS3, this is the best racer available for the console.

Great Game !!! 5 Stars !!!
Need for Speed: Shift has a good selection of cars and plenty of varied tracks (ranging from small ovals and a figure-eight track to lengthy street and grand prix circuits) to race them on. Other than a somewhat interesting experience system, though, it offers nothing that hasn't already been done better elsewhere. Shift is neither an arcade racer nor a simulation; it's stuck somewhere between the two, and while there's plenty of good racing to be had here, it's unlikely to completely satisfy fans of either.

I loved it, but miss some things!
The driving experience in NFS Shift was breath taking. It was well stream lined and the graphics were stunning. But i still miss the open world and the cop chases like in NFS most wanted. Bring them back and you have a state of the art driving game.

A very good title for a racing novice
This title is very good for those who feel overwhelmed by the hardcore sims. Here, you can control as much or as little as you like.
A very fun game that you can pick up and play and dive deeper into later on.

Very Good Racing Game
To be honest, I never play a racing game with a first person point of view, usually I would go 3rd person.
Heard about and read a lot of reviews saying that NFS Shift 1st person view is excellent and it is indeed true.
On top of that great Graphic both the Automobile and the Track. A must have for Racing fans.

This game is pretty cool, great graphics and its fun to play. Too bad there isnt splitscreen though.
Plus being $20 cheaper to order from here than buy locally it's a win/win scenario.

Easy to learn, very well balanced, it's all good
Excellent game, one of the best of the series.
Can go from an easy driving session, just for fun, to something more serious, with great degree of realism.
Very well done, it's hard to get tired, even when playing on the Sixaxis/Dualshock.
HIghly recommended! You won't miss it, it's a sure purchase.

Amazing Racing Game
If you like racing game, this is the game.
It's a little bit difficulty in the beginning, but after some
races you are able to run as a master.
A great game to play at home or to play online with friends.

Probably The Best Casual Racing Game
This one is worth the hype. There is a big gap between casual, arcade style racers and racing simulators. That gap has just been filled.
Your driving experience can be tailored to whatever level you wish, from a complete breeze (with full assistance in steering, braking, turning, and a visible racing line) to no assists (basically brutal, almost sim level difficulty where the cars react as they would).
The career part of the game is incredible with a steep learning curve and many varied styles of racing. These include many race types, the challenging drift sections, one-on-one grudge matches and each and every one of these gives you experience points to level up, stars that unlock races and cash to spend on cars and car upgrades. This is provided you finish in the top three and/or fullfill certain race conditions (e.g. spinning out opponents, reaching top speed, taking perfect corners).
All in all, this is one racing experience that is incredibly addictive and challenging if you want it to be.

immersive
Very good immersion, great sounds, great feeling, physics are ok for the slower cars.
AI is ok, but generally follow their line and bump u off if you're in the way.
Online play is also very fun, but be patient as there are a lot of ppl with only purpose of ramming. (as with all online car racing)
It does get fairly hard for the faster cars tho, if you're leaving the physics/difficulty on hardest. but the low/super fast car bounces like crazy on some tracks, wether realistic or not (probably is as going full speed over a bump at 150kmh on a very low car isn't going to be pleasant)
A few bugs annoying with tuning, and online play, still to be ironed out by EA. with a patch to be released soon.
All in all great filler till GT5 comes out, but i'm enjoyin online immensely.

Nice feeling, but shabby physics
As previously stated, the graphics are gorgeous, the sound is nothing short of awesome, and the attention to detail in the cockpit view make for a very satisfying "driver experience", just as the PR promised.
However in terms of gameplay, I found the physics of the cars to be disappointing especially when you reach higher tiers - the cars "bounce" way too much, causing very infrequent wipe-outs, which is very frustrating. Some cars are downright impossible to control correctly while (thankfully) a few others handle significantly better. Some tuning can address that to a certain point, but this is particularly obvious in invitational events (with no access to tuning).
I was also disappointed by the opponents' AI, which makes for spectacular crashes, but also crashes into your own vehicle way too often, driving you off the road if not totaling your car, effectively ruining the race for you. Very frustrating.
There is no real incentive to go through with the campaign mode, which is really nothing more than a series of unrelated races. Besides, money flows, making it easy to buy the best cars and fly through most of the races. The drift events are to be ignored completely, for they are simply impossible to master.
Albeit these defaults, it's still a fun racer with an outstanding sense of speed and immersion, which plays great especially with a wheel, but only to a certain point. Some serious weaknesses become more apparent in the later tiers, so don't expect a lot of lasting appeal out of it.

Nice change, but its not quite perfect
This was meant to be the game that would be my answer to Forza 3 (since I have no X360), it almost gets there but there's a couple of things that hold it down, namely: camera controls, paint customisation & sloppy driving physics that cause your car to slide constantly no matter how good the car is. Overlooking these 3 issues though its still a solid & fun game

Good graphics and realistic sounds. Great cars and the gameplay is awesome - definetly different from previous NFS games.
Only bad thing its just single player (multi online though), but really one would think all sports games should 2 player at least offline.
But otherwise a great game.

Only bad thing its just single player (multi online though), but really one would think all sports games should 2 player at least offline.
But otherwise a great game.

Impressed
Looks great and plays well apart from the drifting which I have not been able to master at all. Seems this may only be possible by using a wheel instead of a controller. Might have to get me one!
Designing the paintwork was more fun that I thought it would be but playing online was less.
I have always liked racing games (sims more than arcade) and this is the best I have played to date. Dirt 2 may well eclipse it but we`ll see about that soon.

The best NFS in years
After NFS: Most Wanted, the NFS falls in a series of mediocre games. This one revives de franchise in great sytle, but i still wanted a NFS game in the moldes of the first one...

The Best NFS game since NFS Hot Pursuit 2..
I enjoy the game so much. It has awesome graphics and sounds, good control (although you have to modify the setting since its prone to oversteering with the default settings), good balance between arcade and simulation. Though I wish for more cars available, but the ones already in the game are competently adequate.
Highly recommended to racing fans.

Best Arcade Racing Game
A very nice simple racing game out there, there is a simple and advanced tuning which is good. This game looks really realistic when you are playing in a cockpit view. Overall, the game is quite fun and almost lag-free in Online matches.

It really is much better, than ProStreet...
In series NFS it are pleasant to me NFS Underground, NFS Most Wanted more. And all that was after NFS Most Wanted, especially ProStreet, it was not interesting to me to play. But NFS Shift has continued idea ProStreet at new qualitative level that does by its really good game. I advise to all fans arcade races on a circle.

Shifting up in technology
NFS Shift is a very technological updated stimulation very much similar to Gran Turismo. The racing style is similar to Prostreet with stunning graphics and racing stimulation. The game has realistic visuals and you are embodied into the game career of identifying your true driving style. A great driving game to add to your collection

the best of NFS series
720p great graphics but have some problems about the frame-rate... sometimes it's like a "slow-motion".
amazing engine souns, like as GTRs from PC.
But is too far to GT5 handling.

a bit late for a step in the right direction
When you load NFS:S for the first time, you can't help but notice many similarities to Grid - the menu's are pretty similar and the game play follows soon after.
Putting that aside, NFS:S starts off as a fantastic and fun game. The graphics are a lot more refined from previous NFS's but the shadows are still a little 'blocky' and pixelated which is hard notice unless you're specifically looking for it.
As the game progresses, like all NFS's, it gets repetitive. The game is broken up in Tier's - 1, 2, 3 & 4. Tier 1 is where you start off (with the slowest cars in the game) and as you win more races you climb the Tier's and eventually make your way to the 'NFS World Tour' (which you can attempt and win by the time you're at Tier 3).
The handling for each car is unique but like all racing games, engine sounds and rev's sound very similar in each car. The exception with NFS:S is that it sounds like they've modded the pitch to tweak engine sounds.
Overall it's a pretty good game. If you're committed enough, you can finish this game in a day or if you're laid back, a week and a half.

something nice about it
at the first time i tried the game, you feel wow, bt after 5 hours playing, I think i still prefer NFS udercover, as it has astory line,
In my opinion NFS is known for story line, but this one is routine racing, yeh i know you get lot of diffrent cars
but still... i kept playing NFS under cover for over 5 months,
any way it is nice to have and play from time to time ;)

Realism with options !!!!
After years of recycling the mechanical well-established and successful of "Need for Speed Underground", Electronic Arts has promised a new beginning for the franchise, which has been losing more and more numbers of sales and respect from critics and gamers.
Instead of keeping the easygoing spirit that so marked the latest raids, "Shift" opts for a realistic approach, going head on with franchises such as "Forza Motorsport", "Gran Turismo" and many others that have the same proposal to simulate in detail auto disputes.
Fortunately, besides the proposal to be performed well, the title brings new features and enough personality to stand out in gender and promise a bright new future for "Need for Speed".
Realism with options
The main dish of "Shift" is the career mode, in which the player embodies a pilot must be pursued by championships, winning awards, invitations to special races and the right to compete in more advanced categories. Mechanics following formula launched years for "Gran Turismo" and replicated in other titles like: at first there are a handful of different competitions to compete. Victories bring stars, which in turn gives the right to enter into new disputes.
As always, variety reigns, with evidence of speed common to other to make the best time in a certain style and unusual and interesting in which the riders take turns in rounds, with one pilot lands in front of the other, which must then past him, then reversing the roles. Styles also appear more common, such evidence only in vehicles of a particular continent or assembler.
The variety is also present in the choices of cars, including passenger cars to specific machines running, also without a number of manufacturers. Better yet, all are capable of customization and visible damage during the race. Moreover, the damage caused can be either cosmetic or only directly affect the performance of the meteorite - and that's where another aspect winner of "Shift".
The degree of customization allowed by the game is wide and deep. Several aspects of cars can be changed in detail. Mechanics aficionados will enjoy gauging how well the vehicle you prefer, but one interesting point is that the game does not require a dedication to achieving a high level performance in virtual tracks. That is, passionate about the subject will be able to extract good results, but who prefer to focus solely on steering also does not disappoint.
However, it is noteworthy, even with the more realistic approach introduced in "Shift" and the various options to make the races closer to the real world physics engine is not as complete or the market bold - but not out of tune with simulators before such levels of detail.
One factor that mitigates this is the fantastic view of the game, that does not measure the effects of light, shadow and distortion to provide a thrilling sense of speed, ably supported by a sound work that focuses on playing different types of sounds in the race, as snoring engine and overruns.
Moreover, "Shift" marks the return of the option to view the internal cockpit of the car, which also has the addition of simulation of inertia acting on the driver's head, providing leaps and beats in which the vision is blurred who runs a detail that makes the game more sophisticated.
Complementing the extensive campaign and numerous adjustment options for vehicles, the online mode provides agile clashes, uncomplicated, stable connections with most of the time - even if punctuated by delays image, the so-called 'lag'.
CONSIDERATIONS
"Need for Speed: Shift" came the proposal to reinvigorate the popular series from Electronic Arts and achieves this with great competence by adding an exciting physics engine combined with beautiful graphics. It reigns supreme as the best racing simulator ever made, but the vast variety of races, cars and customization options ensure fun as long for fans of the genre.

so-so
it's not a bad game, really. it races and zings and zooms. and it looks great; amazing textures, great motion blur... it's just that... i love getting chased by cops and zinging and zooming around a free-roaming(driving?) world. without these assets, it barely feels like a NFS game.

Imagine the experience of being a race driver. The adrenaline rush of driving at breakneck speeds, the pressure of fierce competition, the fear of losing control, the intense concentration and athleticism needed to harness the power of speeding chrome and steel. This is the True Driver’s Experience of Need for Speed.

just another prostreet
This is like another version of NFS ProStreet. I might say it is ProStreet 2. The key config are the same as ProStreet. Can't customize the keys at all. I am used to pressing keypads and not pressing R2 and L2. I prefer NFS undercover more than this.
But the graphics for this game is damn good. So 3 stars from me. -2 stars cos of the keys config. My opinion only.

think arcade version of gran turismo
This NFS offering is one of the most enjoyable I've ever played from the franchise. It's an attempt at a more serious driving "simulator" but its still not really hardcore in that direction so its a great step up from the usual NFS experience.
The graphics are really nice and car handling with a controller is great (not sure about wheel support). The game starts by dropping you into a race, where your finishing position determines your starting cash (you need to purchase a car after this race to start your career). The addition of driving analysis is interesting and the initial race also uses this information to determine the initial settings for the game (steer assist, traction control, etc) and I found after adjusting the settings to what I thought they should be I ended up adjusting them back to what the game set from my initial race...so it seems to do a great job there!
The driving style points also bring rewards and unlock invitational events so there are constant "micro-rewards" to keep your enthusiasm up. It's also nice to see a game that rewards aggressive driving (I enjoy breaking late and bouncing off the inside of an opponent to get me ahead through a corner) and the real damage (optionally turned off though) means you can be rewarded for taking high risk manoeuvres but suffer performance problems if you fail to pull them off well.
Driving control with a standard controller is very nice and its easy to take a more precise driving style (proper breaking and lines through the corner) or to take more risky styles (eg high speed drifting), either way will get you points and either way you can control your car just fine. Try this in other racing simulators and you find the cars unforgiving if you try to drift!
The only real problem (which effects most games) is the lack of 1080P support. Its a shame claims of full hidef gaming when there consoles were released are not living up to the claims now. So 720P is the best you hidef gamers can expect on PS3.
Overall this is lots of fun, very easy game to get into and I think probably the best NFS game since the original Underground.

Much better EA
Game play
EA taking a more serious approach to racing has paid off, with their grid like offering.
Story line
It's not important
Graphics and Audio
As always nice bling and plenty of decent tracks offered by EA.
Overall
If you are a racing fan and a NFS fan, get this game.
