Beautiful, graceful, brutal, and deadly.
Rubi is a problem fixer. She fixes problems. She's good at it. But when she agrees to fix a wealthy man's problem by finding and bringing back his wayward son, she thinks it's all going to be cut and dry. She thought wrong. The job wasn't so simple. And the man who hired her isn't who he appears to be. Now Rubi's on the run, needing to find the man who left her for dead, leaving a massive body count in her wake.
Double-crosses. Enemies. Allies. Guns. Swords. Drugs. Old books. In an adventure that spans three continents, two warring factions, and one very pissed off problem fixer, WET will keep the adrenaline pumping from start to finish. Rubi is focused. Rubi is determined. Rubi is a problem fixer. Rubi is WET.
Fanstastic Game! I love the character, aesthetics and attitude of this game! Paying homage to the grindhouse period of film history, WET perfectly captures the bloods, gore and cheesy one-liners that epitomized that era of movies. The pacing suffers at part, but for most of the time, the game is incredibly fun. Shooting two people simultaneously while doing a cartwheel in the air never seems to get old for me. All in all, WET is a game I would highly recommend.
Stay away!!!! oh my god! this is so bad. i love bethesda, but i dont know what they were thinking here.
after the first chapter they force you to do these god awful, boring challenges. that have no point to them. just boring and suicide thought inducing game play. wish i never got this. my life here and in the next is now lost in oblivion. (not so much of a review but a rant of my hatred for this game)
OLD MOVIE!!!!! Developers of "Wet" certainly have seen many action films of the '70s and '80s to create your action game in the third person, in much the same way that filmmakers like Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez seek inspiration.
However, the team the game does not seem very clear what makes these works so fascinating and clung only to the visual style, plates and other devices that do not always work so well in the game as the big screen.
The mercenary Rubi, with his sword and dual weapons that never run out of bullets, is the star of the game in an attempt to become a new Lara Croft. She is so aggressive that has no pity or even punch the enemies in the lower areas, which guarantees a lot of poise, but little substance. It is difficult to relate to the protagonist mainly due to the weak script that is happy to mimic the dialogue raw and hit B-movie action, with little intelligence and good humor.
On the mechanics remember them from games like "Max Payne" or "John Woo's Stranglehold" thanks to the strong use of slow motion. Just like good action films, such games known to use the feature to create drama and tension in the fighting, in specific moments in which attitudes showed more energy is essential. In "Wet" is trivialized and everything you spend practically the entire game in slow motion, as the mechanical expects that by the shallowest henchman is killed this way.
Thus, a shooting that should be quick and nervous turns into a painful session of target shooting, except that targets virtually inert. The sword, stunts, upgrades and other features are there to do more volume and do little to take the fighting the obvious.
The solution found then to shake things more times was to insert, say, more cinematic. A few excerpts sucked directly from movie blockbusters, such as a car chase reminiscent of the "Matrix Reloaded", but without the same effect. This sequence, as well as the feature that makes Ruby more angry and violent, for example, are good to get the player drowsiness caused by slow action, but are not deep enough to cause surprise. In a way, to seem obligatory on the material used as reference by developers.
Old movie
The presentation also attempts to simulate the look of old movie, with one using filters that simulate scratches, dust and even a failure of the projection image caused by low light. But this feature seems better in theory than in practice, because the amount of distractions on the screen and flashes the image proved irritating to draw the attention of the fighting. Luckily, you can turn off this feature.
Heroin juggler in slow motion
Another problem arises then. Without the filters, "Wet" shows poor graphics and dull. The models are very generic and only the main character seems to have been created with more whimsy. The same can be said for the scenarios that imitate streets, warehouses and other common locations that could be in any mediocre game of the genre, as well as the latest artificial intelligence.
At the sound things improve considerably thanks to a varied soundtrack that knows explore the best moments of the narrative, with songs reminiscent of bands of kung-fu, and police thrillers of the 80s.
CONSIDERATIONS
"Wet" is a game that tries to call attention to the use of several references to action movies, big productions to cheap tapes that were shown in cinemas Rovers during the decades of 70 and 80. But it is clear that there is no Tarantino within the team of designers and many quotes end up sounding cold, with some elements that work well within a game, while others do not. The slow motion, for example, thin enough the importance of fighting, which only become more varied with the use of the sword and other acrobatic movements, but they are resources that get old soon. Chases and fights in freefall to move more things, but do not make the game in essential item for fans of the genre.
