Fight your way from Roadie to Rock God in this epic heavy metal fantasy adventure.
From the mind of Tim Schafer (Psychonauts, Grim Fandango) comes the ultimate heavy metal action game starring Jack Black (School of Rock, Tenacious D). You are heavy metal roadie Eddie Riggs, hurled back in time to the mythical Age of Metal when the world was formed and ruled by the power of Rock! Armed with a broadaxe, a guitar, and a big block V8 you set off on an epic quest to assemble an army of headbangers, hotrods, barbarians, demonic dominatrix and the undead. With the wings of a demon and the power of a Rock God, you must lead humanity in an epic war against its barbaric overlords, and carve your name forever into the Brütal Legend.
Tim Schafer makes a good RTS on console... wow. So this game, whilst initially looking like a god of war clone, turns into a really well written and fun RTS on console, with great strategic capabilities, but some minor control flaws letting it down. The one detriment to the games RTS controls is the inability to easily control where indivdual units go. This means units designed to destroy buildings will be attacking attack units along with the rest of your troops when they should be off destroying resource gathering 'fan geysers.' In the end though, this game has a very deep mutiplayer experience, and a fun, albeit brief singleplayer campaign.
Originality at it's best Brutal Legend is the epitome of an original title. Its idea is based around a world surrounded by the idea of Metal, and has an immersive and entertaining atmosphere to match. The soundtrack is one of the best in gaming history (for fans of Metal) and the voice acting cast is legendary. There is a decent level of humor in the game as well, and the story itself is great too. The only reason why this game gets 4-Stars is due to the fact that it has serious RTS elements interwoven into the gameplay, and for people who are not a fan of RTS games, it may be a bit frustrating to play. The controls are not a problem, but do take a bit of getting used to, however. I can't help but think that this would have been a better game if it were straight up Adventure, along the lines of Psychonauts or Rachet and Clank...
Nonetheless, for the soundtrack, originality, humor and beautiful scene-scapes in the game, it is a solid addition to any Xbox 360 collection.
If you like Metal, why don't you have this yet? Brutal Legend is a great game with a well written story, great voice acting (surprisingly good from Rob Halford as LionWhite) and addictive gameplay. It is fun to just cruise around the big open world with Classic Metal tunes blaring, but the missions are great too.
My only problem is that after your done the side missions are pretty bland and are essentially the same thing over and over again with no real variation. But regardless I love this game.

Metal Heads rejoice Brutal Legend is clever addictive game, the designers have managed to blend the styles of God of War and Spyro to create a well focused story driven masterpiece. Combat is broken up with intelligent puzzles that aren't always the easiest to work out and cinematic cut scenes that have quite smart dialogue. Simply a must for any good gamers library!
