What a TERRIBLE RPG!
If people are giving this game 5 stars then they must be giving games that are actually fun 100 stars! Yes they are correct about one thing, this is one of the best JRPGs on the 360. Too bad they are ALL terrible games. I could not even finish this game before it put me to sleep.

A Heavenly JRPG
This traditional JRPG is the closest thing to FF on the Xbox 360, with an epic storyline, engaging characters, classic FF battle and levelling up system. This masterpiece of a game also breaks innovative ground with its memory sequences, essentially superbly-written short novels incorporated into the game. With 4 discs worth of gameplay in one title, this is definitely a must-have for all JRPG fans.

Play it for the great story. The turn based formula might be abit tired but doesn't impact the experience :)

The best RPG of this generation
I have finally found a classical RPG like the old ones to this generation of video games. I can not describe the game minimally rigth now because the game is paused and I have to know what happens next. Recommended a lot.

Best JRPG on 360 so far
A second game by Mistwalker on 360 is something that blue dragon should've been. Although the game contains some technical flaws (such as framerate issues), the game holds memorable characters & overall story that gives you a compelling narrative experience from start to finish.
Added on top of this is little fresher take on turn based battle system that'll also keep you engaged throughout.
Definitely a worthy title to be in every JRPG fan's library

Final Fantasy without the name
That's pretty much what this game is. It's a Final Fantasy game. Not only that, a damn fine one at that! I really hope to see more Mistwalker titles in the future.

Nice gameplay, boring story
It is a nice JPG, but it is way too easy and the story is ridiculous. I loved the gameplay though, it's like a final fantasy.

Better than FF XIII
Lost Odyssey is a brilliant, yet oft-overlooked epic RPG. Clearly the game has its minuses, but its build-up is classic, the game is pretty lengthy with a lot of extra tasks to tackle and the extensive turn-based battle system (which is kind of similar to FF X) make this game a must for every RPG fan in possession of an Xbox 360.

An excellent game
This game is incredible, good history, nice graphics, i like to the system battle for this rpg because i love "turn based". I'm still playing the game and crazy to reach the final to see the outcome of this fantastic story. One Great game to the Xbox 360 and i will expect more games in this line, RPG Forever.

Great RPG
Should have got this sooner. However I just played this recently, and I have to say it's one of the best I have played. Great story line, superb graphics, and cool characters.
On the downside, its a little troublesome to always equip and unequip the rings/skill links after battles. But this is just minor.

An Average Playthrough
This game is pretty good and has a lot of good points, however given the rest of the RPG market, it seems a bit bland. The battle system is pretty innovative, and the soundtrack and voice acting are very high quality. However, it is another JRPG in which there is a reluctant hero who becomes the only hope for a dying world... It does have a been there done that feel to it, however for $25, it is a great addition to anyones RPG collection. Not one to pass up at this price!

Good RPG for the Xbox 360.
If you want an RPG with good storyline and music for the Xbox 360 It has to be this game.
It has an amazing storyline especially the dream sequences written by an award winning Japanese short story writer. It's definitely the best game made by Mistwalker so far. :)

Great JRPG for the price
One of the best JRPGs for Xbox360. If you are a JRPG fan like I am, Lost Odyssey is a must-have. Something worth mentioning about this Asian version is the multilingual support: I personally find the Japanese voice acting a lot more compelling than the English one.

I like Lost Odyssey so much! It's far better than Mistwalker's earlier game, Blue Dragon. It has a great (sad & funny) story, a traditional turn-based battle system with a twist, a unique skill system, and beautiful graphics. A must-have for JRPG fans

Enough said already, I finished this game in a single(borrowed discs from my friends). Now it's available as bargain price, so I bought myself a copy to replay it. It certainly worth ever penny you spent on it.

An old school RPG
Since I am used to play RPG games with turn based fight modes, this was a very good experience, I loved the characters design, the music is amazing, the story and the little chapters of memories made me be amazed with my mouth wide open. This is a game that every one who likes the old school games must have.
Definitely worth your money and time. Highly recommended for all fans of old school japanese RPG.

Nice JRPG
Although this JRPG starts off slow but it soon the story draws you in and keeps you entertained for this long adventure on 4 DVD discs. The fighting is turn based like Final Fantasy games. So any one who's a fan of FF games or like RPGS should check this game out for sure.

One of the best RPGs ever made
Mistwalker did a masterpiece in Lost Odyssey. With its very engaging story, endearing characters and stunning visuals, it is definitely on of the best RPGs I have played. The writing is superb, very heartrending and also does a good job in social commentary. This game will really immerse you with its story and environment.
The gameplay is simple but works perfectly. Grinding is avoided by level-capping. Equipment system is simplified and is made more interesting by using rings and skill accessories / skill linking with other characters.
The music done by Nobuo Uematsu, of course, is top-notch. The game's music does a good job in setting you in the mood -- whether you're about to kick butt or just simply wander around the towns. The music also helps in climaxing the story, as it really defines the mood along with the character dialogues.
English dubbing is superb. No complaints about that at all. I would actually recommend you to use the English dub because the voices fit the characters very well.
This is definitely worth your money and time. Highly recommended for all fans of Japanese RPGs, and those who are looking for good RPG experience for the XBOX 360.

Flash to the past!
Lost Odyssey isn't out to break any new ground. With the old creators of Final Fantasy and backed by the music of Nobuo Uematsu, Lost Odyssey will feel much like the spiritual successor to Final Fantasy 10. Two things that it does try to do differently include leveling limits that prevent grinding and special characters that learn abilities from regular ones.
The classic approach to combat and might grate on some, but for those that want a traditional JRPG with a shiny Xbox360 presentation, this game won't disappoint.
PS: This game benefits GREATLY from the Xbox360's save to hard drive feature. A definite must-have, as it significantly reduces this game's otherwise excessive loading times.

as old skool rpgs go its pretty ausome
Got this ages ago, thought it was pretty quality. Good characters, story, graphics ect, does slow down after a while and the battles do become hard but I guess thats like most rpgs to be honest.

Average Game
The game starts out great. The graphics are great and the story seems promising. But as you play you notice that battles take forever. This is because in each new battle they show the area of the battle and the monsters before th battle starts. The battle progressions are pretty slow too. I also found that area bosses were more difficult than the monsters in the area. Most of the skills ans spells you are given aren't that effective. I really didn't care for the ring battle systme, didn't add anything interting. The game really slows down in the 4th diak and puts you in some battles that are just too hard (the 4 monsters with a time limit.) It actually becomes a chore to actually want to beat this game. When this game came out it was one of the only rpgs in the market. If you are considering a better rpg now go with Tales of Vesperia.

Lost Odyssey
If there were an epic game with a "who's who" Japanese production team, Lost Odyssey would fit the bill. The game is published by Microsoft but developed by the legendary Hironobu Sakaguchi - father of the hit Final Fantasy series. Other big names assisting include Takehiko Inoue - famous creator of the hit manga series Slam Dunk, Nubuo Uematsu - famed music composer of many Final Fantasy games and another famous scribe, Kiyoshi Shigematsu. Packaged in four DVDs, this is possibly the biggest video game ever. It's easy to see why - the graphics are awesome, characters look very real in high-definition, movie cutscenes are cinema-quality and designed to make you weep. As for gameplay, it's just very, very long. Lost Odyssey isn't for everyone. You won't find instant hack-and-slash action like in Diablo or the complex character customisation of World Of Warcraft. What you get is a long-drawn but engaging story about an amnesic 1,000-year-old immortal hero Kaim who slowly regains his memory as the game progresses. Much time is spent unearthing his melancholic and chivalric values, as he explores the world and familiar scenes trigger flashbacks. When that happens, you will be "treated" to long text-based stories, part of the 1,000 years dream" feature of the game. I read only the first one and not another word. Combat is turn-based and you can control multiple characters one at a time. You need to place your meat-tanks in the front row to protect the characters at the back - usually low hit point spell casters. Every character and monster on the battlefied has an "attack speed" which decides who goes first. Your "melee" characters will charge towards the enemy and a giant ring will appear. Press the right trigger immediately and the giant ring shrinks towards an inner ring. When both are aligned, release the right trigger to unleash more damage. There are different kinds of magic and attacks, from the purely physical to elemental-based ones like fire and water. Shooting a fireball at a fire-based creature won't hurt it much but a water-based attack will. A good strategy is to use your casters to heal while the brawny characters attack with swords. Like the traditional Final Fantasy series, there are plenty of random battles that sprout as your explore nooks and crannies to find objects to boost your fighting prowess or heal your heroes. Overall, Lost Odyssey is very traditional Japanese-style RPG. If you liked Final Fantasy VII and Grandia, this is definitely for you. But if senseless violence and carnage is not your cup of tea, Lost Odyssey isn't the jouirney for you to embark on.

Best RPG for a long time.
Lost Odyssey is by far the best RPG I've played in quite a few years. The gameplay is solid, the story is incredible, the characters are memorable, the graphics & music are both beautiful, and it has hands-down the best voice acting of any game ever made. I can't say enough good about this game. My only complaint is the fact that the game itself ends.

Rebirth of Turn-based
Ignore the critics and arrogant reviewers for a moment and think about what you as a gamer want. If you're like most JRPG fans and have a fondness for the tried and true turn-based formula, then absolutely get this game. If you've never played a turn-based JRPG before and are curious, definitely give this game a try.
It's time to stop letting critics tell us gamers what's cool and what's outdated. This game is a prime example of reviewers getting ahead of themselves and failing to understand what JRPG gamers want or desire. Like fine aged-wine this game is a distillation of decades of Sakaguchi's JRPG pedigree.

Impressive, but...
there are certain flaws, which are difficult to overlook.
It is quite a decent looking Final Fantasy game for the 360, very old school and just another generic Jap. rpg.
Nevertheless, I think it s worth a play.

Great game
It is one of my first J-RPG's, and I am really surprised. The visual is amazing and the story is really good. The English voices are good, too, and overall the game is a must-buy for anyone who likes the Asian styled role play games. It works on PAL machines!

I´ve been playin through Disc 1, and I can assure every JRPG Fan a very enjoyable ride. Fast paced combat, neat character development, excellent dialoge and voiceover and a cinematic way of storytelling. Graphics are great most of the time, with few exceptions. The overall atmosphere, mood and style of the game is brilliant. Just what Blue Dragon has been lacking. This is a great step further for Mistwalker and I think it is possible that they will create true "Milestone" RPGs again just like in good ol´ Squarsoft Times !

Brilliant RPG!
This is a brilliant game. Whilst I think the graphics could have been a little better, the gameplay and storyline are amazing. Lots of very unsettling themses to do with death and mortality and very well written dialogue. The voice acting and character expressions are done really well too- Janson is hillarious! Highly recommended.

The RPG 360 owners have been waiting for...
If you loved the final fantasy old-school RPGs then this game is for you. Classic adventure and exploration is constant, as well as the turn based battles Final fantasy made famous. This is just as good as any of the FF games and is a welcome addition to any RPG fans collections.
Highly recommended! *****

A masterpiece in the classic vein slightly marred by technical issues.
With people behind the wheel such as Hironobu Sakaguchi (the creator of Final Fantasy), Nobuo Uematsu (FF's famed composer), and development team feelplus, made up primarily of ex-Nautilus staff -- creators of greats like The Legend of Dragoon (PS1) and the Shadow Hearts series (PS2), it's not hard to see how Mistwalker's latest 360 epic, Lost Odyssey, has the potential for greatness, and I'm happy to say that the game does live up to the hype.
First of all, the music is absolutely incredible. You know right from when you first hear the game's main theme that you're in for something special. What shines through most though, like in most of Uematsu's soundtracks, are the game's battle themes. Multiple boss themes set the mood for each battle and keep the tension high. Speaking of battles, Lost Odyssey probably has one of the best battle systems I've ever played. The Wall System and the general difficulty of battles make things very strategic -- unlike many RPGs that can be beaten just by mashing A over and over, LO requires strategy even in lowly monster battles. Buffs are actually rendered useful in this game when you're trying to keep your front line stable so your back row of mages is kept safe. The graphics, powered by Epic's Unreal Engine 3, are absolutely beautiful. The character designs by famed manga artist Takehiko Inoue (Vagabond, Slam Dunk) are wonderfully brought to life, and the world itself has a very PS1-era Final Fantasy feel. The story is epic, enthralling, and as a reviewer in the Japanese gaming magazine Weekly Famitsu put it, "bitter," and the short stories penned by famed Japanese author Kiyoshi Shigematsu sprinkled throughout the game are amazingly well-written, regularly able to bring me to tears. I can only hope the game's English localization is able to preserve the amazing writing present in these stories.
While the production values are certainly great, the game is not without its problems, all of them, in my opinion, technical in nature. First and foremost, this game at points can have some of the worst loading times I've ever experienced in a JRPG. Be prepared to look at the same character art over and over as your 360 is loading massive amounts of data off the DVD. Sadly, I think this issue could have been somewhat assuaged if the game allowed some of the data to be installed on the hard drive, but then again, I'm not a developer. Other more minor issues include framerate drops and tearing during busy cutscenes.
If you're an RPG fan, though, don't pass over this game strictly because of its technical shortcomings. You'd be missing out on a great experience. There's so much that this game does right that it's not worth skipping. With the Final Fantasy series seemingly turning away from the direction of its earlier incarnations, Lost Odyssey still retains the classic feel of its spiritual predecessors. With Mistwalker cranking out games like this, fans like myself disillusioned with the direction Square Enix has been taking as of late with its flagship series still have a company to fall back on.
