End of Eternity, or Resonance of Fate is Sega's next hit. Produced by Tri-Ace, the company that created stellar games such as the Star Ocean and the Valkyrie Profile series now takes on a project that illustrate the struggles of a group of youths in an apocalyptic world.
Due to large scale pollution, the world has become an almost inhabitable place. People live in Barcels, a massive capsule created by ancient technology, however, even this tiny world is falling apart. It is in the middle of this chaotic era that three young people came together to create a new history.
Carry your hand guns and other firearms and create a rain storm out of bullets. Make use of the items, know the characters' strengths and strategize your battles. The game makes use of a semi-real time battle system, carry out your offense and defense plans and shower your opponents with bullets.

Unique RPG
This isn't an RPG where you just pick it up and play it without struggling at first. Once you get to know how gameplay works on ROF, you'll get real hooked up.
The game feels weird as every cutscene is very short and unclear but that what keeps me going forward. I want to know it it gets better so.

Initially awkward but enjoyable till the end
RPG is most likely my favourite genre. I used to play FF, The Last Remnant, etc which are similar in term of gameplay. So, trying this ROF give me a little trouble to familiarize the gameplay at the beginning. But it is easy to get used to it once I completed the tutorial, an then I enjoy the game all the way through..

A Hard Code JRPG
I can say this is a truly a hardcore JRPG. The combat system is awesomely stylish but little bit difficult to learn and master even for JRPG veteran like myself. But once you get to know it, this game is significantly more enjoyable. A truly rare hard to core JRPG for this generation.

The only thing this game needed was the ability to undo moves. I found I'd accidentally press the wrong button and have my fight ruined on occasion. Beyond that, it's an amazing game. The graphics are cool, the battles look exciting, and the voice work and cutscenes are awesome. I found myself laughing aloud at them numerous times.

This game is absolutely wonderful. The visuals are stunning, the gameplay is very enjoyable and requires actual thought out planning. The whole hex idea of the world map is very intuitive and is one of the more original things I have seen in a long time. One qualm one may have with the game is the progression of the story mode and how long it takes to pick up. While the sound does great in complimenting the aura of the steampunk environment and each situation that arises.

High Learning Curve RPG
has a steep learning curve for game mechanics. storyline is good. might get frustrated having to die a lot of times. good thing is has japanese and english voiceover with subs. you also get to customize your characters clothing as well as guns.

as usual, squre-enix produced a game with an astonishing 3d graphics. the battle system is also quite a breakthrough with the pistols and everything, not a common regular turn-based baattle system with attack, skill, magic, and regular choices.

A breeze of fresh air in RPG's world.
Not as hard as some review mentioned, "retry" only cost you a small amount of in game money until you find the right strategy. Love the design, story telling, custom weapons/outfits and the freedom to go to next chapter...or not for unfinished business.

Valkyrie Profile 3?
Back when Tri-Ace first announced that they were making a new RPG, I thought for sure that it was going to be the long-wanted Valkyrie Profile 3. I was deeply disappointed when I found out that instead they were making this.
But now that I actually played this game, I should say that in this game, I see the VP3 that's never been able to hit the market. There are lots of similarities that brought a smile to my face: user interface, map, character design, combat, they even recycled the same exact subtitle font that was used in VP2! The combat system feels familiar yet innovative. And if there's one thing it teaches us, it's "a gun game doesn't have to be a FPS or TPS!"
Overall, I like it. But it should have been Valkyrie Profile 3, instead of this out-of-nowhere thing that is quickly forgotten. Why Tri-Ace tossed away its VP3 project and chose to make this instead, I will never understand.

a great game from SEGA and tri-ace.
the gameplay is quite complex, but when you get hang of it, the battle will be quite fun.
characters' outfit can be changed too, with a lot of customization for that (too bad the outfit didn't change the defensive stat, only for appearance)
anyway, this is a great game and must play for RPG fans!

One of the more unique RPG available, it offers some interesting storyline, characters with changeable outfit (with fanservice), and more importantly: unique battle. Each battle is difficult and will make you strategize properly. Perfect for the tactical-mindset gamers.

Mixed feelings
The gameplay is unique, however there isn't much of a learning curve, the concept of the real time and turn base strategy is great, but it doesn't feel as great as an solid turn-based rpg, the difficulty can be quite tedious at times

Another great RPG Game
There are so many great RPG titles around & Resonance of Fate is no exception. The enviroment & settings of the game sets the tone of what's about to come by & it will not disappoint gamers of this genre. Spend some time on the combat technics & it was well worth it. Overall, this game is a blast to play.

Great JRPG
It's been a long time since last time I had such a decent JRPG on my xbox360. Everything from the graphics and sound effects to the story is a lot better than I expected. Some people have complaints about the steep learning curve of the combat system. I have to agree that this is not a traditional grinding and button smashing RPG, but it is precisely the reason why I'm giving a 5/5 for EoE: you actually need to think about what to do before attacking. To sum it up, if you like JRPGs, you should definitely give EoE a shot.

Very Interesting
The cut scenes are beautiful, story is interesting, the battle system is a bit complicated but it won't take long to catch on.
Love the characters, they work well as a team and are sometimes comical which is great.
Definitely glad I bought this game.

we seem to have fresh new approaches of RPGs these days and this is one that doesnt fail!

Absolutly Amazing Combat System!
I've always been a fan of SteamPunk and love JRPG's so Resonance of Fate was the perfect match for me. However the amazing thing about this game is the combat system. Make no mistake it is unlike anything else you've seen in a GOOD way. You will die LOTS of times. A simple stupid mistake will turn an easy battle into death! But when you get it right its a blast. The animations as the characters leap through the air with guns blazing are great to watch.
The characters are nice as well and they play against each other well with witty and sometimes slightly wrong comments!
All in all I'm very happy that I managed to get hold of this.

Insanely hard to master, immensely satisfying.
This is not one of those JRPGs that will hold your hand throughout the story. It is extremely challenging.
The presentation is stunning, and even though it's hard, the gameplay is really good. It pairs up with Valkyria Chronicles in being one of the most underrated gems in this generation. A must buy for all PS3 owners.

I didn't get to play much of the game yet, but so far, I'm pretty convinced it's a nice game, with good music, good cinematics and graphics (I particularly liked the city background graphics), and an unique battle system. Kinda remembers me of Grandia.

For a game which I'd heard nothing about beforehand, and as such expected a run-of-the-mill RPG, I've been absolutely blown away by Resonance of Fate. While the story might take a long time to get going, it only takes a matter of moments before the steam punk world of Basel sucks you in; from the charm of visuals to the orchestral score.

First of all, if you expect the usual RPG here, you may stop here. This RPG has it's unique system play here (first i might call it difficult) but it's quite innovative for me now. But then on the other part, it's tutorial is a little hard to follow. Then again, I like the the funny mid-battle conversation.

Beautiful and fun
Great game for any RPG lovers. The setting and music is beautifully amazing and the characters are hilarious. The battle system is quite brutal though, so you should play through the optional tutorial as many times as it takes for you to understand the battle system.

New JRPG
New RPG's style for me, at 1st didn't use to the style of play keep losing. (another hard RPG buy SEGA)
but once you know figure out how the battle system work it is so much fun and keep doing the combos on the enemy non stop.is just fun you can't let your joy pad off your hand.
and the story is so funny. lol..

Tri-Ace's new JRPG
Tri-Ace after number of outings in this generation brings somewhat their most polished RPG game yet. Although the game's story doesn't take center focus, it is a compelling one.
Gameplay is quite a deviation from standard. Big overworld maps have been replaced with game board like hex based map where random encounters give you different hex "pieces" to expand where you can travel to.
All this is backed by somewhat hard to understand battle system which is somewhat similar to the one found in Valkyria Chronicles. But, the game gives you more depth with more time you invest into the multilayered system. One downfall is that the game lacks beginner handholding which can scare people off.
Just about everything seems more polished than Tri-Ace's previous games in this gen, and this is a must have if you are a Tri-ace fan. It's not perfect, but it's something fresh from a japanese rpg developer.

Interesting gameplay

Quite a new take on RPG's
Resonance of fate provides countless hours of amazing storyline and game play with exceptional attention to detail in whatever you see, whether it be your character, weapons, or the environment. Although the battle system was a bit slow for my liking but other than that it was brilliant. Overall the game is worth checking out

A JRPG that takes chances and for the most part succeeds!
Resonance of Fate is yet another JRPG from famed JRPG makers Tri-Ace. Unlike the fairly typical Star Ocean, Resonance of Fate is a pretty inventive take on a genre not really known for taking chances. The story and steam-punk setting are decent, but have been done before. The combat however is where the game truly shines. It is the perfect mix of challenge, depth, strategy and action. Imagine a mix of the spatial awareness required in strategy RPGs, mixed with pseudo real-time combat, featuring gun-play and acrobatics that would make Max Payne green with envy, and you'll have a rough idea of what battles in Resonance of Fate entail. They are challenging, tactical mistakes are punished mercilessly, but the game is never unfair. There is also a great sense of satisfaction when you finally figure out the right approach to a particularly nasty battle.
Graphics are attractive, with the main characters animating particularly well, voice acting is solid if unremarkable, and the sound effects and background music are typical JRPG fare. As an extra, and to dive deeper into this JRPG, you can choose between Japanese or English voices.
Both, weapons and the look of the characters is fully customizable.

The battle system is intricate, and has a moderate learning curve, however once it is mastered, you will feel like an extra in a John Woo movie. Jumping 30 feet in the air and raining bullets and pain down on your helpless enemies never gets old, and with customizable weapons and costumes, there is a sense of personality to each character. The world map mechanic is also new, and encourages exploration, while the battle system and mission system encourage grinding and honing your skills. The story is a little weak for a JRPG, however there is enough tongue-in-cheek humor to make it a fun experience. A nice game for any fan of the JRPG.

It really isn't a great game based on Tri-Ace standard.
But definately a must play for all JRPG fans.
I have to say, the game itself is quite boring and repetitive as the story only kicks in in later part of the game.
9/10 for the new battle system though.

Please remember, Tri-Ace ≠ Valkryie Profile and so does others e.g Sega ≠ Sonic, Square-Enix ≠ Final Fantasy etc. Those companies also have alot of great games too. Didn't enjoy this game as much as Tri-Ace previous RPG, the battle system is boring, prefer Valkyrie Profile more. Tri-Ace could have done better, but maybe this is why they choose SEGA to release the title instead of Square Enix.

I have a lot of fun with this game, the story is fun, and the characters are great. Nevertheless, the game become bored lately since the gun shot movement is limited. people just have to do the exact same thing every time during each battle. Other than that, it is fun game to play.

The fun part of this RPG game is shooting instead of traditional action RPG, and its free control, unlike virkaria chronic with stratigy shooting, this game bring much more performance during the playing. Running, aiming, shooting. the player could really enjoy the intense of the game.
Besides, the painting sytle is nice, very eastern delication drawing which will bring more players attention. A+++++

Harder than expected!
After several hours of playing this game, the battle is as hard as everyone commented on most game websites. The new battle system is indeed a very addictive experience to the typical jrpg but people who look for story in this kind of rpg, I need to say that this game's story only run later in 'almost' the last part. Before that, the story will revolves around the 3 main characters and the side-quest.
The music is terrific and the graphic will leave you speechless. This is a good game for those who want to experience a new jrpg.

Sega has the guts to release this game when FF13 is still hot, nevertheless, the battle system is fresh, creative, deep and addictive, not to mention character can change costume, which i believe is a 1st in video gaming JRPG history. As some of the other reviewers have alluded to, this game boasts one of the most innovative and stylish battle systems in a RPG to date. The battle system is in my view, the highlight of this game. Whilst it does have a somewhat steep learning curve, once you master it, it is an incredibly addictive and innovative experience. The ability to customise your characters' costumes is also a neat feature that deserves mention. Nonetheless it is not a game without its shortfalls. Despite having a very likable cast of characters, I felt a lot more could have been achieved with theme and the plot. At times, the game seemingly cannot make up its mind whether it should adopt a dark and deeply serious mood as depicted in the all the trailers or a somewhat more out-of-place light-hearted, quirky and humourous one which was surprisingly what this game came across as for various parts. All in all, despite its shortfalls this a game worth playing for all RPG fans as it still has a lot going for it.

The T-A-B concept blends the styles of Western shooters and turn based RPG's into one unique style, and as a result, always has you on your toes as to which move you'll make next.
In itself, the story is not all that solid - a sudden change from humour costumes to dark mood, and feeling like the latter portion of the game was rushed, may detract from your overall experience.
BUT one of the most defining factors of JRPG's IS the battle system, so if you want one of the most innovative games this season, combined with quirky, funny AND serious story, this game may just be right for you.
The T-A-B concept blends the styles of Western shooters and turn based RPG's into one unique style, and as a result, always has you on your toes as to which move you'll make next.
In itself, the story is not all that solid - a sudden change from humour costumes to dark mood, and feeling like the latter portion of the game was rushed, may detract from your overall experience.
BUT one of the most defining factors of JRPG's IS the battle system, so if you want one of the most innovative games this season, combined with quirky, funny AND serious story, this game may just be right for you.

Strange, but good RPG
Tri-Ace makes another score. Great characters, excellent music and interesting story makes you want to see the ending. Without magic or another type of mystic world, it's a different vision.
It's really worth of your time.

Tri-Ace finally do what they do best
After a run of sub-par and crap games Tri-Ace finally goes back to its roots, making an engaging innovative RPG
The Story is serious yet funny , the Characters are memorable , the world is gorgeously presented and of course the bizzare yet extremely fun Battle system
Between the Action packed semi-action-turn based battle system and the Hex puzzle-like over-maps there's always something fun to do, don't like your characters look ? no problem , just drop down to the boutique and buy them some new clothes!
All in all, EoE has it all , it may very well be THE RPG of this year, definitely worth a purchase for any RPG or Tri-Ace fan!

Another JRPG...
Solid game from Tri-ace/Sega. If you didn't play the demo recommand trying it first then decide.
Combat system is hard to get use to at first but very addtive once you start to level up weapons.
There is no diffence in Xbox or PS3 so if you still not sure which version to get just go with console you like.

Too much fun!
The battle system is sooooo much fun I was too addicted to it! You can either win or lose depend on your stragies , technic and sometimes a little bit of luck.
I Strongly recommended to everyone who want to try something new , it won't disappoint you.

Great game!!
It is an awesome game!! It has wonderful visual graphics and great story line.
The characters are great, and you will want to get ever outfits after you played the game.

A work of beauty!
This game is astounding. The graphics are wonderful. This game is another win for the PS3 and it's revamped RPG styling is superb on all standards.
The characters look real and their personalities are believable and gripping. This is one game that everyone should get their hands on.
End of Eternity is one for the records.
