Step into the world of Too Human, the epic action-game for Xbox 360 from famed developer Silicon Knights®. As the Cybernetic God Baldur, you get thrust into the midst of an ongoing battle that threatens the existence of mankind.
An ancient machine presence has forced the Gods hand. In the first of a three part trilogy, Baldur is charged with defending mankind from an onslaught of monstrous war machines bent on eradication of human life.
better than expected I bought the game because of its price and the graphics. The reviews have not been very good and so I was not expecting a great game.
"Too Human" is a mix between Hack n' Slash and RPG. I have to say that the Hack n' Slash part is far better than the RPG.
The combats are the best parts in the game while the story is not interesting enough.
So the good news is that you have a lot of fun in defeating your enemies and the bad news is that you have not much fun during the combats.
Anyways, you cannot go wrong with this price and you will not regret that you have bought "Too Human".
What a mess. Too Human aimed at delivering an epic story told through 3 games, did it devilver? not a chance. When a game has been in development for over 13 years you would excpect to play something that was polished and perfected, sadly in this case all we got was another third person hack and slash game. There are some minor good points such as level design and game length but the bad over weigh the good. I would say if you can pick it up for under $20 its a decent game to last you until a future title.
Not the game for everyone. This is one of those games that will take hours upon hours to get used to the controls enough to actually enjoy the game and the camera angles can be very annoying.
But if you can look past the faults and give it a go you may enjoy it.
Great price, good game This game can essentially be seen as Diablo meets standard Action-Adventure (i.e God of War). However, not with the exact amount of polish and attention to detail as the aforementioned games.
The standout flaws of Too Human, for me though, are essentially the horrendous animation, terrible story, as well as quite rough and spotty gameplay, however this does not equate to terrible gameplay, it is just a tad unpolished, but regardless, the title itself is a looters absolute dream.
In my eyes, the customization, available equipment, and the soul-sucking immersion gained from this attainable looter 'immersion' is where this game pays its dividends.
If your a fan of typical hack and slash titles, RPG's with a heavy character customization focus, and don't mind a weak story and characters, this game is definitely for you, and if not, still worth a consideration at this wonderful price. Do consider.
Grinder's heaven If you like to grind for loot and levels, this game is amazing. For everything else, story, levels, combat system, characters, enemies... it's average at best. But if you get a sense of satisfaction from getting that random drop elite armor or hitting the level cap, you'll enjoy this game for sure. And on the xbox there's not much competition for this kind of a game.
Great Game Hidden by a Few Flaws Too Human is a great game and for $10 US it's a steal. It has some key flaws, but if you stick to playing Too Human, you will find that there is a great game hidden by a few flaws.
Terrible gameplay With a frustratingly long production timeline this game doesnt deserve to be even 2 stars if not for the scifi genre and a good deal on playasia for $10. The game is tough, the enemies keep coming in hordes and you will keep on dying. Thats the summary of the game. However you can add it your collection for $10-15.
Good price, bad game This game is a copycat of Diablo but for worse. You´ll die a lot and having to see the valkirya animation it´s just annoying. Dull use of weapons and powers, lack of inmersion, polishing, and repetitive gameplay mechanic kill the game
Not Terrible, But Perhaps Worth Your $10 As others have said, this is a fairly standard hack'n'slash dungeon crawler. The graphics are alright, despite the glitches. The art is OK, but not inspiring (which is a shame, as the setting gives the potential for some unforgettable art). The loot is fairly deep, but not nearly as epic or as well measured as, for example, Diablo II. The story isn't very interesting - which again, is a shame, because the setting could have made for a fantastic story.
The control system is interesting, but perhaps is the game's personal Marmite, as a lot of reviews tend to hit or miss this game based on whether or not the reviewer enjoyed the mad mad mad mad mad controls.
Overall, a missed opportunity, and I'd recommend most people put their $10 towards a better game. But I also hope the sequel, if it is ever completed, addresses this game's flaws. Too Human Two (Even More Too Human?) could be absolutely amazing.
Prepare to die alot. This was supposed to be a great sci-fi hack and slash game, but after so many years in development and changes, you just end up with a frustrating game which even with its very cheap price makes it hard to want to keep playing. The death system and controls just seem to hamper the overall tedious gameplay aswell.
A good attempt hampered by poor production values. Too Human represents the epitome of gaming's quest to find Nirvana, and the perfect game that lies within. Despite a wealth of killer ideas that would create an exceptional game unlike any other in existence, Too Human is hampered by its long development cycle and poor production values. With a little more fleshing out, all the elements that make this game so unique could become something more than just a mediocre bulletpoint on the back of the box. The storyline, fusing classic Norse mythology with futuristic technologies shows promise at times, but is consistently hampered by poor delivery and sub-par writing. Gameplay boils down to nothing more than a loot grind, mashing on the attack buttons until the wave of enemies is replaced by a slightly stronger one. Despite an interesting and relatively deep loot system, the consistent "Kill one wave, attack the next" is tiring and quite dull.
As a whole, Too Human is more a victim of its own development than anything else. After 10 years stuck in development hell and development for 3 separate generations of consoles, the cracks are evident. Silicon Knights were very clear when they said they were aiming for a trilogy with Too Human - all I can hope for is that they take these mistakes and flesh them out into innovative, interesting gameplay mechanics. This game isn't fantastic, but for such a low price it's certainly worth a look, if for nothing else than to see what could have been.
A great game for the price I bought this game because it was cheap. Having played it, it was worth my $10. The story was kind of short but if you like hack n slash, this game is not bad. Item drop and variety is quite nice too.
Great value game For the price this game was sold here, it was totally worth buying.
For all it's worth, it is quite a decent hack'n'slash dungeon crawler. Dungeons are well laid out, there are a wide variety of environments, huge customizability due to a wide spectrum of weapons and armor.
Only problem is, character development is weak and dialogues are flat. The gameplay is good but not good enough to mask these flaws. You will definitely get bored of it halfway.
Saying that, it is still a good stress-relief if you managed to snag this title at a discounted price.
Medicore game at a bargain price Too Human...This is the name of the game that has been in the oven for a long time and when it was finally released it was over baked. The game promised many things yet delivered only one-- disappointment. This is a game of what could have been. Yes, the graphics are attractive (but certainly no match for Unreal Engine 3), the soundtrack is quite punchy, the story in concept is intriguing but, the execution is not up to the mark. The game controls are a mess and the repetative gameplay doesnot do it any favour. Pick this one up if you are bored and need something to keep your hands busy. I give it 3 stars simply because the asking price is a steal. At this price you donot even get PC games.
Good game Good game when you like the hack'n'slash.
Monotonic gameplay, and milieu is flat, not too much colour. Fight with the right analog stick is strange.
not worth your 10 bucks this game was absolutely terrible. controls were awful, respawn time very nearly killed me, and the repetition repetition repetition repetition repetition repetition repetition repetition repetition repetition repetition repetition repetition repetition repetition repetition repetition repetition repetition repetition of the game was unbearable.
Great game, bad timing bad marketing When they launched this title they compared this one as Halo or Gears which was completely inadequate. This game is fun when you start to understand the controller scheme. If you try to play this game like FPS/TPS then you will have a bad impression because you don't use L stick too often rather you use R stick to move around and beat your enemy. This game is a hack and slash game and all you need is lean your R stick towards enemy and you'll have your whole control. Great game but came out in wrong timing. I'm looking forward to Too Human 2.
It did not live up to my expectations I was expecting a lot from the game and it failed to delivery in almost all aspects. Denis Dyack of Silicone Knights promised a fun, unique, fascinating game and that's not what I got from it. I played through it for achievements but I got really bored and frustrated about halfway through. What I did like about it was the cyber-vikings norse mythology theme/setting which has a great deal of potential if done right. For what I paid for it, I can't really complain too much though.
For bargain hunter for more than shoot and go it's a good bargain shooter game and good story line but no comparison to Unreal tournament or other first person shooter.
Horrid Controls The controls ruined the game for me, it's got really boring intervals at the Aesir homebase. Level design is repetitive based on the 4 different locations u visit.
Best enjoyed with another player on xbox live, otherwise dun bother. But it's hard to find fault with the $10 price!
Not too good.. I picked this up as a bargain, and as a bargain game, its pretty good. Holds your interest for a while. But I feel sorry for those who would have paid full price for it. It looks like an awesome game but really is held back by some pretty atrocious controls!
For the price worth it Definitely worth the $10 price tag, but I wouldn't pay more then that as the game just feels underdeveloped. Too Human just doesn't deliver as compared to all the hype that the game received before the release.
Despite an interesting premise and a desire to break a number of traditional role-playing archetypes, Too Human shot for the moon, but haphazard controls, a flimsy skill advancement system and a slew of oft-occurring gameplay frustrations keep this sci-fi epic’s feet firmly planted on the ground.
Too Human is a very short game and feels truncated, in so much that when players reach the fourth and final dungeon, it comes as a great shock.
Meh After MANY MANY years of development Too Human is finally released, and fails miserably to live up to expectations. While it is a bit fun in a mindless loothunting sense, the game is incredibly monotonous with poor controls and a completely nonsensical story.
Great Value for a Good Game After reading the reviews on this page I have to say that there is a definate split between the views of this game.
Note: I just recieved this game today (I bought this version and it works great)
This game is a nice little diversion while you are waiting for the next blockbuster game. What I am really taken in by this game is the "What-if" scenario that the game is based on. How would our world be if Norse gods were real and they were the guardians of the human race. I also find the "What in Odin's name is that" instead of the traditional Western "What in God's name" to be a clever little line that puts you more into the atmosphere and environment of the game world.
All in all this is a game that is worth picking up. It is an interesting twist on traditional RPG's and culture that you wont be disapointed with. For $10 there is very little that you can be dissapointed with
This game can be excellent if you put in the effort At $10 it's a must buy, but to get full enjoyment out of it play through the first level and before picking your alignment, search online forums for recommended strategies for your character class. You'll find this game to be deep and fun if you learn to play it well. Clearing out a room of 100's of robots is incredibly satisfying.
Total dissappointing I was once hyped for this game but sadly it's just another disappointment.
The game looks mediocre and plays mediocre. If you enjoy total lack of immersion Too Human is just the ticket! The mind-numbingly boring right stick swirling which makes up the majority of combat will have you streaming with tears of boredom in no time. Add to this a revoltingly bad targetting system and you have gunplay that's 3/4 luck and 1/4 hope. Baldur would rather spin around and shoot at walls, or butterflies, or even enemy bullets rather than any one of the horde of 3000 irate robots charging at him.
The camera is one of the worst ever designed and implemented in a game.
The story is sort of interesting but with only 4 levels in the game it really doesn't get much chance to flourish. It's over as soon as it gets started. I don't think SK really get the idea of what a trilogy is. Cutting one normal length game up into 3 very small pieces isn't it. The story will appeal to Norse mythology fanatics and people with low standards but seriously, nothing worth getting excited about.
Level design. Now given there's only 4 of the things you'd think SK would give you 4 action-packed and interesting levels to sink your teeth into. Wrong. The levels are all very similar (basically corridor running) and bland.
The game can be played with 2 player co-op but this game was meant for 4 player and it shows. It feels like a game that had its guts ripped out mere moments before release. You can see it in the character classes, the level layouts, everything. The game was meant to be played with 4 people to get the most out of it, but due to SK's weak development skills we missed out on that too. Oh, and don't think you can jump online with a buddy and go through the story mode, the story is cut out of the co-op game, so you have to play single player to see it. So Too Human feels like a MMO dungeon crawler that only lets you play by yourself, or with 1 friend. Nice thinking again SK!
And to finish off the loot in this game isn't even all that interesting or cool either. The whole game is just amateurish.
If anyone is still reading this please, just buy something else. Too Human is trash. SK set out to make a great dungeon crawler, but obviously neither Denis nor the team "get it" when it comes to making one. 2 big thumbs down.
Avoid. Combat control is imprecise, air combat seems to be there purely for an achievement, and it feels very detached, as you simply push the right stick and watch as he does the work.
You can get interrupted mid heavy attack by a mini-boss hitting you but you can't cancel it yourself with a roll or jump. Health only drops from enemies, so once things start to go downhill they just keep getting worse, because you're attacking a single thing at once, and they're all belting you. You will die. Often.
But it doesn't matter! Because death is inconsequential. You just get shunted back a touch and you're good to go. What a great way of dealing with a badly designed combat/enemy system, well done guys.
The talent system is an obvious afterthought and pathetically implemented to boot, the combo system that only has three charges and shares itself between ruiners, spider bombs and battle cries, and the loot system makes stuff drop so often you'll be going through the painfully setup menus every 2 minutes to change gear.
The camera is a joke and the level design is worse than Halo 1. Yes, apparently it can be done.
When it comes down to it, little of all that matters, because this is an RPG, yet they've decided that the creatures should level up to always be a challenge the player. Completely against the entire logic of an RPG and leveling in one. Why level us up, drop new gear, or allow access to older areas if you've going to make the challenge the same all the way through?
Just say no, everyone.
Get Mercenaries 2 (although that appears to have disappointed as well), or Warriors Orochi or something. Seriously, Kingdom Under Fire : Circle of Doom is better than this, and that's saying something. Get that if you really need a hack and slash. At least the story in KUF:CoD is completely bonkers and not half way there like this.
Perfect for fans of this genre Too Human is for fans of this genre (Action-RPG with loot hunting) fantastic - it has it's issues (camera), but it's a very addictive game with excellent art design and very good music.
And after playing through the singleplayer mode (appr. 12-15 hours) the game can be played in 2 player online coop mode for loot hunting ... I love this game! :)
great fun! Forget what the above reviewer says, i played the demo and thoroughly enjoyed it, yes it can get a tad repetative but its still a great game. controls are fluid , looks ok (not as nice as some '360 games but still pretty enough), sound great, interesting story (norse gods are real and are cybernetically enhanced warriors living amongst, and protecting, humans from robotic demons/monsters!) all in all a fun title i thought.
Too Human The demo proved that the game was bad. Too BAD I had to try it. For a game like this to be in the works 4 years it's unacceptable to be this bad. Insomniac can make a classic in a couple of months while I'm disappointed with my purchase.
