Great improvement from last years edition The best thing about this is the improved load time. Almost instant transition to and from matches. Also a large improvement with the creating tools, and the create-a-story editor is pleasing for a first effort. Great game overall.
Great game with flaws This may very well be the best SvR game so far, at least on the current generation of consoles, but it still has more than enough flaws.
First of all, the engine has been the same since going "Next-Gen", with heavy clipping issues and all, it works fine but starts to seem outdated.
Since creating a good CAW (Create-A-Wrestler) with moves and entrance can easily take 1-2 hours, the chance to download user-created CAWs is very welcome, but the interface is clumsy, only Live Gold members are even allowed to download wrestlers, and it's impossible to edit downloaded CAWs to e.g. give them their real entrance music. A great idea executed less than great.
Other things to critisize are the sometimes dubious AI, very inconsistent difficulty level in story modes and the new HUD, although this surely is a matter of taste. A truckload of game modes, very good controls and countless create options still make this a very good wrestling game, but with some more care by the developers it could have been even better.
A lot of fun, but more of the same. In a lot of ways, the Smackdown (vs RAW) series is a lot like FIFA or Madden, each year they take two steps forward, one back, and often, a little stumble to the side just for good measure. Whether you find this edition to be worthwhile will depend a lot on whether you use CAW characters a lot or prefer to use the WWE Superstars that come as part of the ingame roster, as a lot of effort this year has gone to integrating the CAW into their own storylines (which you can create yourself, within limits). I'd personally rather see a much larger roster with more costume/outfit options for those on the roster, but that's my own bias. I guess if they gave us too much there, it'd be hard to sell us the next edition!
No title This is probably the best smackdown vs raw to date. The new upgrades to the various creation modes guarantee gamers hours upon hours of replay value. There are also new game modes and features such as WWE Rivals which lets you configure the alliances and adversaries which can trigger interferences from such alliances and enemies mid-match. There are also new matches; adding more variety into the game play. The Road to Wrestlemania is back with new storylines; featuring a diva's story for the first time. However, there is not a lot of noticeable difference in the overall presentation and graphics department though this isn't likely going to offend anyone for the visuals themselves have been well done in the recent installments. Overall, if you are a fan of this franchise, you will not be disappointed with this purchase.
