Oh lord no
I liked the (slightly-angled) vert PS2 version of this title (being very much a fan of 2D shooters), and I rented this thinking it'd be along the lines of big favourites of mine - Space Harrier and Afterburner fly-into the screen 3D shooters.

But it's not. It's one of those fiddly annoying games where the multitude of buttons gets in the way of the action, and worse! - you get no sense at all that you are moving even when you use the fastest speed settings (which is also a cumbersome control to perform). The stars - like in real outer space - don't move and you feel like you're just floating in a vacuum for an infinity of stretched-out black-hole time, like that guy in 2001 after HAL chucks him off the ship.

I was bored to tears.
Also, like most games these days that use cross-hairs for targeting, it takes about a year to center them upon what you want to shoot.

If you like pretending a game is about learning to drive all over again from scratch, then you'll probably enjoy this kind of thing.
