description
Seven years prior to the events of FINAL FANTASY VII — The Shinra Company is rapidly increasing its influence through its monopoly on mako energy and military might. With the burgeoning city of Midgar as its base and symbol of prosperity, Shinra is on the verge of establishing absolute dominance over the world. SOLDIER is a group of skilled combat operatives within Shinra.

The elite within the group — those strong enough to be deemed SOLDIER 1st Class — are respected and idolized by the citizenry. Zack is a young SOLDIER 2nd Class who aspires to become a 1st. He spends his days carrying out assignments under the guidance of his 1st Class mentor, Angeal. During an operation in Wutai, a large number of SOLDIER members, led by 1st Class operative Genesis, go missing. The severity of the situation prompts Shinra executives to deploy even more SOLDIER operatives in hopes of bringing an end to the war with Wutai—and conducting an investigation into the mass desertion.

The ones assigned to the mission are Zack, Angeal, and the 1st Class hero who is known the world over as Sephiroth... What truths lie behind Genesis's disappearance? What secrets bind the three SOLDIER 1st Class operatives? For Zack, a cruel and fateful struggle awaits...

It may catch you off guard if you are a vet just coming from 90s RPGs such as Final Fantasy VII itself, but excellent graphics, soundtrack and gameplay.

Poor Zack
Final Fantasy 7 prequal game, very short about 15-20 hours in length, with 100s of side missions. I suggest playing the missions first, as many as possible to get better materia such as curaga, firaga, thudaga earlier than what you would in the main story mode. Can't stress enough

Woa.
I wasn't expecting too much when I popped this into my PSP. It had been yeaars since I completed FF VII. I didn't put the game down for 3 days, got finger cramps and cried at the end. One of the the few games I've experienced that melds a unique gameplay mechanic together with the story to heighten the emotional response from the player.

Loveless: Act I
Probably the best FF VII Spin-Off and One of the best games on PSP. A must buy for FF VII fans.

PROS: Zack is actually a great character. The gameplay is very good for a PSP game. Some aspects of the origin of FF VII are very well explored.

CONS: Sometimes the story gets too sissy. And what about the stupid names? Genesis? Really? Some battles are repetitive and annoying.

One of several reasons to buy a PSP
Definitely a must for all JRPG, especially FF VII, fans. Though unlike its predecessor it doesn't have a traditional JRPG battle system (which I prefer than any action-like battle) but its storyline and graphics are more than enough reason to still have it.

PS. Too bad while it's listed as Greatest Hits version, but I got the Favorite label instead. Not a very big issue, but PA should correctly list the right version for the right item next time.

Faithful prequel
This game is a worthy successor to Final Fantasy VII, one of my favorite games ever. It remains faithful to it's predecessor while being a game that stands on it's own. Some bits might not please the fans, but Crisis Core deserves to be on the list of the best RPGs on the PSP.

Worthy Prequel to Final Fantasy VII
As a prequel to the events in Final Fantasy VII and the Final Fantasy VII Advent Children movie, this game is well written and well-made. I have put over 20 hours of play into the game and am still less than two-thirds to completion.

The graphics and audio are good for a PSP game, and the characterization of these iconic characters are spot on. The music is a conbination of new tunes and remixes of songs from the original FFVII, but both fit the game well. I am also impressed by the combat system in this game, called the Digital Mind Wave. It is not as difficult to learn as I had originally feared, but the randomness of the special attacks in battles may be aggravating to some players.

If this game has anything worth criticising, it would definitely be that there are WAY too many side missions. Or rather, that 95% of the side missions are exactly the same, differing only in the types of enemies fought and the map layout. No effort was made to diversify the missions and after the first 30 or so, you would be tired of them. There are also no different weapons to unlock and no other characters other than Zack Fair that you can play as. If these are not turn-offs, I would highly recommend Crisis Core to RPG fans everywhere.

A solid experience
Crisis Core has a limited side. The areas are really small and you don't have control on your special attacks and upgrades. But, on the other hand, it's a game with high production values, a frenetic battle system and a goos cast of characters. A must buy for every FFVII fan at the end of the day.

Must have for all PSP owners
Even if you've never played FFVII, this is one of the best RPGs in recent years and it dares to be different.

An original battle sytem with lots of character customisation options (with the return of Materia, albeit handled slightly differently now) ensures this feels fresh to fans of the series.
Boasting some of the most impressive graphics on the system, with great attention to detail and bursting with secrets to find, you'll want to play this one to the end.

As a PSP exclusive, this is even more reason to get this gem of a game. You won't regret it!

If you are into FF 7..
Crisis Core fills all the gaps and holes. If you are a fan of 7, then you must not deprive yourself of this great game.

If 7 is the main course, Advent Children the dessert.. then Crisis Core is definitely the appetizer to complete your FF7 dinner course.

The battle system is very addictive, and the missions adds to the fun. Hell, i bought my PSP because of this game.

Just Great
I had never played any FF game before this one. So I was concerned if I don't understend the gamepley or the general story of the game. But since this game is about the beginning of all FF VII series, I decided to give it a shot.

I'll try to cut it short. This game's most definitely deserves to played at least once. Gameplay, story, graphics are all perfect. I am not that much of PSP player, but according to my latest save data I've spent 69 hours playing Crisis Core :)

I wish game had both English and Japanese language options (I got the US verison). But like most of other Japanese games it doesn't. This is the only thing I can say as a minus about the game.

A gem in the PSP library
Crisis Core is a compelling look back at a very minor character in the cast of Final Fantasy VII. This was a smart move by Square Enix I believe, as it's let them have a whole lot of creative control and potential to craft a memorable and nostalgic story as they have here.

Zack is a fascinating character and a rare breed in the JRPG; he's not an angst ridden, confused teenager. The spectator find themselves instantly liking Zack and his gun-ho attitude and like I said above, is a refreshing change to the normal character types you find in JRPG's nowadays.

The combat is an interesting blend of real time and turn based mechanics, allowing you to cue up attacks from a list and watch them play out instantly. Whilst you initially feel out of control at first, you quickly come to grips with it and the combat shines out as a very enjoyable part of the game; a good thing considering how much there is of it!

There is plenty of content here, the story is engaging and memorable and the presentation is fantastic. The only real drawback is the difficulty; it's simply too easy once the player is accustomed to the combat system.

Essential...
For RPG fans. This is the prequel to FFVII; and since every FF has it own unique storys even if you never played a FF game before you can still pick this one up without getting confused. The story is very powerful, combined with likable characters and a very emotional ending, this is a must have if you like RPG genre in general.

Part of Final fantsy VII...
It's a game for the sake of completion, or so I though before buying it, then I found a mix between soft action and rpg that is quite convincing, the story is great ( even if more likely you already what is about it before purchasing it )

For min/max players there is a long way to grin in this game if you want to get the very best of everything, and for the casual player you can just go through w/o mayor effort.

Over all great game, and great psp exclusive.

Quite Disappointing
The first time you run through the game you realize a few things. 1: There is no really good materia tutorial, so you have to figure it out as you go. 2: NO SKIPPING CUTSCENES. This is so annoying when you loose a boss battle that you want to throw your PSP across the room. 3: NO CHECKPOINTS. When you die, you go back to the main menu, that's it. This is especially annoying when you loose a boss and especially when you have to keep going to get to it from the save point near it. 4: Difficulty is unbalanced between bosses to creatures which makes the game annoying. 5: Missions are either BORING or HARD. And you can't bring them into a new game +. After you beat the game you realize how annoying all these things and more are. And especially having to go back through boring cutscenes and cheesy story, not to mention horrible voice acting. So spare yourself the aggravation and broken PSP and skip this game, there's really only one good cutscene in the whole game and you can find it easily on YouTube. Don't buy this game.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
this game is so famously good, but a few extra notes... if an role-playing game is about getting into your role, then this game sets you up extremely well by giving your character some pretty amazing animations. i don't mean just the moves and materia in battle, but reactions in conversation, facial expressions (in the cutscenes that use the game engine), lip-synch for the english voiceovers, etc. if you are familiar with the final fantasy 7 universe, zack's perspective is a terrific point-of-view from which you'll get to see some key events, as well as take part in others. the new characters angeal and genesis have ties to old characters like sephiroth and zack himself. be warned, however, if you're not a fan of final fantasy 7, the story here may be bewildering, making the amount of time you'll need to spend on side quests and levelling a bit of a chore.

Only for FF7 fans
missions are very repetitive and the whole story is very short, but still enjoyable for fans

Go prequel?
My friend let me play a bit of this. This game is THE reason why I'm suddenly buying a PSP (or else most likely I would have just stuck with my DS). Quote what one of the past reviewers said. "And this game is the reason Sony PSP sales boost up!" I really do believe that.

Best Final Fantasy game since FFX
HOLY WOW.
I just completed this game last night. Blew my socks off. Amazing gameplay, amazing storyline, amazing soundtrack, amazing voice acting, amazing graphics. AMAZING. Not to mention great side-quests and replayability.
I have to admit, I am in no way a FFVII fanboy, it was my least favorite out of the PS1 FF's because I found the story too plot-hole-y. Crisis Core has given me a whole new perspective and amount of respect for the Final Fantasy VII storyline and series as a whole.
A definite MUST BUY for fans of the games. GREAT JOB Square-Enix! I am no longer displeased with you.

For those that love action-RPGs + FF
This Final Fantasy is different than every other FF for the systems. You can actually dodge every single attack exception of special skills aka limits in other words.

It's a game than anyone who likes the kingdom hearts game play with the REAL final fantasy twist to it. This is a prequel to FF7 the original video game released for PS1. This shows how and why Cloud did what he did, with previous tragic events.

I advise any FF player this game before Kingdom Hearts, ever if released at the same time of it. Most Kigdom Hearts players were playing based on the Final Fantasy stand point, not so much Disney. Good game but it is a 4 *, simply because it didn't knock my socks off, and no game is quite deserving of all 5, yet.

WOW
Well I have to say I have not been sucked into a game like this for a long time.

Awesome graphics, great OST, great gameplay, lots of fun little mini games and 300 side misions, it's like they mixed traditional FF with action adventure, outstanding job SE!!!

Can only imagine the kind of sales of psp and the game itself once it hits NA hahaha.

One of the best PSP game ever made!
This game is something a FF fan would wanted. Over 300 missions, and a lot of rare items to collect, it gives you almost 100 hours of gameplay! And this game is the reason Sony PSP sales boost up!

So what are you waiting for? Get yourself a copy now! Play-Asia is your best choice!

boring easy
This is the most easy finall fantasy game i ever played in my whole life... i completed the game in just 8 hours on the time shown in the saving mode. This game is pretty boring and not all of the story mode including inside only some part of it.
