Art Alive is one of the few educational titles released for the Genesis. With support for the mouse, this title allows players to create their own art and color it, somewhat similar to Mario Paint. There is no real purpose in the game. Players simply start drawing images or choose one of the stock images to color. A variety of colors and tools is supported, to draw rectangles, circles, with spray effects, shape filling and more. There are three different pencil tips for freehand drawing and text can be added as well. A few stock images with new drawings or characters from other SEGA titles are also available. Some of them are animated and players can edit the animation images themselves or alter the path they follow on the screen. There is background music and each action is accompanied with a sound effect. The images cannot be saved.
