description
The PlayStation2 Console Charcoal Black (SCPH-70000 CB) is a new and slimer PlayStation2 model. Due to internal structure improvements, the volume of the machine has been reduced by 75% and the weight been optimized to approx. 900g only.
The PlayStation2 Console Charcoal Black includes a built-in network connector (100BASE-TX/10BASE-T) but no longer features harddrive support. Also due to design and technical changes, previous Multitap as well as Vertical Stand models are no longer suitable for this model.
Besides from this, the updated PlayStation2 still plays back all PlayStation2 and PlayStation2 games (Japanese region encoded titles only) as well as DVD movies (Region 2 NTSC only!).

Long live ps2!
I received the ps2 in perfect condition, and it is everything I hoped it would be. This was money well spent. Having an NTSC J ps2 opens up my game options because now I can play all the games that I never had the chance to play. Everything you need is in the box.

Outstanding!!! I feel Squeashy
It's got 2 USB ports and a wireless signal scan for a remote I think. I Love It! The only thing is that I forgot that Japanese Region DVDs would still need a Japanese PS2 or alternate means to play 'em. I recommend this to all who want to play the original japanese games. It's a great alternative since the current PS3 is no longer backwards compatible. Great for PS2 games that you may have wanted to play in their Japanese And PSX games which include, but are not limited to, Final Fantasy VII International!!!

JP PS2
It arrived within a week after I made the purchase and I'm in love with this. It's black(my utmost favorite color), it's slick, and it looks so awesome next to my Wii and PS3 slim. The controls are basically different from the American version but it's okay. I got to play KHFMII, Narutimate Accel 2 and Gundam Meisters right when I took it out the box. Even though I have an American PS2, I like both! And it works so well here in Britian. It's a must by and a good price for this system. (Might even buy a Japanese Wii)

I bought it to play PS1 games and a DVD player
I know Playstation2 is probably Sony's best console, but I never really got into Playstation. I only got this console because I bought a Megaman game thinking it said Sega Saturn, not PS1. Since I had a few Japanese DVDs anyway, I figured I may as well get the system and maybe play a few games.

Just need the socket converter
It works great! I have no complaints. I live in the US, though, and if you do too, then you'll need a socket converter as well

PS2 at is best!
I was a bit concerned about this new PS2 model since I held onto my first model PS2 since its release. I gotta say...this new model is pure digital magic. For something so slim and light this PS2 model is definitely the fastest, best-looking and most powerful PS2 to date! I'm really glad that I got my money's worth and more!

Don't forget a power cord!
My old modded PS1 was starting to die on me and I wanted to be able to play Beatmania IIDX, so I decided to take the plunge and bought a Japanese PS2. This works great, BUT the included power cord only works with Japanese power outlets. I ended up scavenging a power cord off of another device that had the right plugs on each end, which works fine, although that also presents a 50% chance of getting the wrong polarity (which presents a possible grounding issue) so you might want to use an actual plug adapter if this makes you nervous. As long as you don't immerse the PS2 in water you should be fine, though.
The really freaky thing is that the internal clock was already set correctly when I first set it up (I only had to set the time zone). I guess it gets set at the factory and stays correct in transit. It was a (pleasant) surprise.

Works perfectly and easy
The simple solution for playing NTSC-J Games. You just need a socket adapter in addition for it to work in Europe, in my case. The shipment was fast and the istalltion simple.

Works perfectly - quick note on voltages
Product works great - almost a little TOO slim. Do note that as delivered, the labelling on the outside of the console and in the packaging may specify only Asian power requirements (e.g. 235V) but it does indeed have universal power supply (I tested with American 120V/60Hz) as noted in the listing above. Although I'm not the type to blame the manufacturer (Sony) for trying to put together a cost-down unit that may not in some cases have universal power supply, mislabelling the power requirements (which is ultimately a safety issue) for the unit as delivered is not doing anyone a service (in fact this situation is actually a way to underpromise and overdeliver, improving customer satisfaction).
System menus are in some form of Chinese and English.

Just what I needed
Perfect for playing NTSC-J import games without a hassle. The Asian PS2 model was the ideal choice because it works on the same voltage as the models sold in Europe and thus I only needed to buy a socket adapter in addition. Only downside are the tiny reset/open buttons on the console, but of course this applies to all slim PS2's.

Plays beautifully on NA TVs on NA power and saves to NA Memory Cards, all of which I was a little worried about. It was delivered within a week of my order and a month later I'm *still* giggling about how cool this is.

Good investment
Knowing that my selection of PS2 games would eventually run dry, and the fact that I've always wanted to play, I wanted a Japanese PS3. But, they were put out of print. So, I went with the next best thing, a Japanese PS2, and I love it. I'll always have my space for my US PS2, but this one is just great, worth the 200 bucks I spent on it. The layout is the same as the US version too, but you use circle instead of X to select things, but no big deal. Great service from Play-Asia as usual.

Japanese PS2 is awesome
I wanted to get the Japanese ps2 because I was sort of tired of plyaing my american ps2. I had a bit of a problem with buying this because I already have like a good four system's. Which are the Wii(Black), psp(Blue...it's special edition), DS(Regular), and my ps2(silver). So I didn't feel like getting another system for awhile since it's a bit hard keeping track with all the systems I have. And plus on top of that I have the Sega Genesis and the Famicom. But after I saw all the awesome games that they didn't have for our ps2, I just gave up and got it. It's the same amount as if you're getting a Wii and th same with the shipping. It came in complete perfect condition. Normally if I get games from here, then it'd take a good week or two. But this was very fast and I was excited to get my first Japanese system. It's super awesome and I love all Square Enix's games, I love how Kingdom Hearts Final Mix has all this cool stuff that our american version doesn't or the Bleach: Blade Battel's 1 and 2 worked perfectly without getting a swap magic and a flip top cover that DOESN'T work for the silver ps2. Now, I don't have to worry about that anymore. I cn just buy a game from here and play it with ease. I love it and won't get bored with it any time soon.

Great Console
I purchased the charcoal black version of the console. It works flawlessly, just like my silver US version. Now I can play import PS1 and PS2 games to my heart's content. On another note, the shipping was fast as usual and the product was packaged carefully. Once again, great service from Play-Asia!

Awesome
The new console is the perfect match for someone that needs space or is living in the doorms. Its new flip open design instead of trays gives it a longer life. Its so small it has almost become a portable itself, making taking it to a friends house easier then any other console.

Best choice for UK gamers
The plugs exactly the same as a UK plug, so no need to mess around with adaptors/step down converters/etc. Only problem is that some people will have to buy an RGB cable for it to play in couler. Apart from that, no problems! :)

A very steep price, even for those of us with money to burn. However, should you be ready to commit to import gaming at it's finest, grab this system. It should arrive in two-three days as well as arrive with a free sample candy! If the Japanese disc does not fit, do not loose your cool.Simply grasp the whole disc and then push down firmly, yet gently.

Absolutely Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I`m so glad I was able to buy this console! I`ve been dying to own and play Naruto Narutimate Hero 2 for a while now, and after working this summer, I decided it was time for me to buy a console and play it. This is the safest way to play imports without the potential of ruining your US PS2 by mad chips or magic discs and slide cards. I didn`t want to take the risk, so I bought this one. It`s way more expensive than those other options, but I would rather not have a broken US PS2.
Anyway, if you do decide to be an import PS2 gamer because you like a game that`s not going to be released in the states, I highly recommend this if you can afford it. But a word of caution, the AC plug(to actally power the console) it comes with is not made for any US household power outlet. The plug is massive, and will definitely not fit in the outlet so don`t even try. Another thing that doesn`t work is the original PS2`s adapter(not the slimline). I`ve never owned a US slimline PS2, so I don`t know what cord comes with it, but if you don`t own a slimline and just the original PS2, you`ll have to buy a new cord that actually fits in our outlets. Don`t panic. Some Gamestops have them, and I think they are made by MadCatz or something. If not, you can search Ebay. Just letting you all know what you`re in for. It`s not the end of the world. I freaked out at first, and then I discovered a local Gamestop had the cord I needed. Make sure you buy the actual piece that goes in the wall, and make sure the other end of it is rounded, not a round and square like the old cord.
After all that, I set up the language and timezone, and off I played. It was great fun, and I hope to buy more imports now that I can play them. Thanks play-asia!!!!!

I love it!
Ordered it on a Thursday, and got it Monday mourning! I live in the US and wasn't sure if I would be able to use it without some sort of converting. The downside is that you will not be able to use the supplied plug, but the good news is that the plug into the adapter is identical to the PSP's and Xbox's, so don't worry. It can easily be used in the US.

Probably the best thing about Asian version of this console (aside being cheaper) is that you get power cord that can easily be plugged in 110V (US standard) or 220V (EU standard), and everything works just about fine. Unlike the original PS2, this one has no DVD drawer but it opens identical like GameCube where you place the disc. Well, you may hear the disc spinning speed a bit louder, but that is compensated by not being able to hear fan anymore, lol. It's a great asset to play all the NTSC J games out there, be it for PSX or PS2. This was a great buy, and I thank play-asia for their great sellection, support, and blitz-like delivery time.

THE TIME HAS COME...
... that I can play all the crazy (and greatest too) games from japan!!! The funny thing about this console is the voltage from 110 - 240 V, so you don't need any converter. For today I had now problems, the functions are all ok and I hope this go for a long time.
At last again a BIG THANKS for the great service from the PLAY ASIA-Team: I got the console three days again my order !!!! That was fantastic!!!

Excellent
I ordered the Asian PS2 on 11/12/04 and got it delivered on 15/12/04. I would recommend this machine (if you live in the UK) as you don't need any step down voltage converters.
At last i can play all those games (Taiko no Tatsujin, Drag-On Dragoon, Katamari Damashii, and Gigantic Drive amongst others) ) that will never see the light of day in the UK.

Weird...
What about USA plug and voltage? Is a converter needed? Please answer....!!!
Anyhow, I got a Japanese version one before, and the slim is so so so light.. its not even funny, and if u sit it ontop ur old os2, ur friends are like... what the? =D its so neat, and its great to take along to a friends home that doesnt have Ps2 japanese or asian support!!! Keep in mind tho, these systems will not play any other english speaking games... ALTHOUGH, some games have english switch, but its kinda rare. I'm thinking about buying my friend one, or cuzzin. As soon as i find out requirement, Play-asia... be ready for my order... (BTW on my other ps2 slim... you guys did a grat service... thnx)

I am purchasing this item soon and was just curious why this item is $179 dollars and still plays J NTSC games but this one keep in mind is Asia, NTSC J and this version of PS2 is cheaper while the PS2 named Japanese, NTSC J is worth a whole lot more. I was just curious and wanted to find out the reason. Cause you can play XENOSAGA EPISODE II on both of these consels right? i dunno I just wanted to ask. K.O ja ne.
(Play-Asia: All NTSC-J games will work fine on this system)

So small
This thing is even smaller than an A4 sized paper and it's only 28mm in thickness! Ordered on the night before last and I got it this afternoon despite a delay in the airplane. Recommended for all especially those who wanna carry it around the world even in handbags.

Very nice
Very nice indeed. I've actually got this sitting in front of my old PS2, and the size difference is remarkable. It's also completely quiet unlike the older versions. The other plus was that all I needed to do to get this running was buy a travel plug along with the system - the Asian systems use a similar power voltage to Australia/UK, so there was no need to waste money on a step-down converter. When you take into consideration that its much cheaper (than the Japanese version), why would you want to get anything else?

Great!
This is a good buy. It's very slim and I take this to my friend's house all the time. It's very compact and you should definitely buy this.

best PS2 by far
The first time i saw the new PS2, I fell in love with it right away. This baby is so small, so light, so slick and yes, so sexy!! Even though it doesn't support HDD but who cares, right? coz the only game that needs a HDD is FFXI. This new model is so quite and u cant even notice it's functioning. The graphic is better compared to it's predecessor. It is definitely a 5 star product and also a perfect x'mas gift. Go get one for your gf. ^_____^
