description
20XX, the human race has successfully repulsed the giant aliens from outer space. But good times do not last, the unimaginable happens just after 3 months. This time, the invading combat biological weapons are even more evolved and can fly and even burrow! A giant ant hole deep in the depths of the Earth is the breeding grounds of masses of evolved enemies. The nightmare-like war is not over yet. Can the human race defeat the alien invaders again and restore peace to Earth?

After ferocious fighting, scarred Earth is finally at peace. The aliens that were thought to have been eliminated hide their hive deep underground, producing more evolved new species with better combat capabilities to conduct an invasion against the human race again! The player takes on as a soldier in the Earth Defense Force, using various different weapons to fight with giant insect-like life forms with great destructive powers many times his/her size.

The more evolved insect-like aliens not only have greater strength, but also possess more varied attack patterns. The evolved new alien types include fast and flight-capable flying insect (winged ant); web-spewing arachnid with amazing jumping abilities (spider); and at least 30-meter long myriapoda (centipede). In order to overcome these new alien forms, the Earth Defense Force also has new blood injected – "flying female combatant". Using double firepower from the airmobile force and heavy ground weaponry, the fun of the game is multiplied! Gamers, do battle with these aliens ruining the peace of the world, and fight to the death in ferocious war!

In order to deal with a stronger threat, the game includes more than 140 types of different weapons, which are more powerful and destructive than ever. They include the rapid-firing Assault Rifle, long-range Sniper Rifle, destructive thrown Grenade, enemy-chasing Rocket Launcher etc. And the various pilotable weapon platforms in the predecessor are all retained, like the defensive moving fortress Tank, destructive bombing machine Combat Helicopter, and the highly mobile attack weapon Airbike. The player can coordinate the use of the various weapons and weapon platforms to give rise to varied battle tactics!

    Arcade Action at it's finest
    Wow.

I bought this after playing the Xbox 360 US version, and to my delight this version is hands down better in all aspects, with a small exception being the graphics.

This game is fun, fun, fun, and isn't that was playing games is all about? With all the levels, weapons, difficulty level and 2 playable characters, the replay value seems infinite! If you are a fan of old-school shooters, then this is an absolute no-brainer. And even if you are not, this is worth a try simply because it's quite a unique game.

    Best. Game. Ever.
Words can't simply describe how fun is this game! yeah sometimes the framerate falls at about 1fps but incredibly the game still can be playable and the fun of destroying everything in your path is incomparable. BTW some levels are the closest to a "ZOMG it's Godzilla!!!!! let's fry the sucker" simulator. What are you waiting? buy this gem. If you can play imports in your PS2 you MUST play this. If you can't, do whatever necessary to change that :). I am praying to the gaming gods to make the incoming EDF3 for Xbox360 region free, and i will plunk my hard earned money into that machine, screw the ps3: no EDF on the PS3= deal breaker, let the horde of giant ants come!

RUn n Gun at its finest!
First off...wow... This game is amazing! Ok, if youve ever heard of the old movie "Them" with the giant ants attacking the world, mix that with the cheeseyness of a Godzilla movie, and make it with the game mechanics from Body Harvest (except alot better) you get an creepy and awesome game! Chikyuu Boueigun 2, which translates to Earth Defense Force 2, takes place 3 years after EDF 1. Earth has succesfully eradicated alien invaders (which are...apparently...giant ants... and other misc. alien monstrosities like Godzilla dinosaurs) and lived peacefully, until 3 years later when teh aliens retaliate. You play as a girl in purple armor or a guy in red and white. Spanning the two characters, there are 72 levels to play, along with 5 difficulty settings (Easy, Normal, Hard, Very Hard, INFERNO). There are also 140 weapons to find and use. There are severe differences between the two characters. The guy uses conventional weapons, like assault rifles and missle launchers. The guy can also ride in vehicles, like a tank, helicopter, and hover bike. The girl on the other hand, cant ride vehicles. Instead, she uses a jetpack. This comes in VERY usefull! The girl also uses sci-fi weapons, like a burst plasma rifle and laser CANNON THAT DOES SO MUCH DAMAGE ITS SICK! The cool/creepy aspect of this game is that there are these giant ants crawling over everything, people running away, and explosions and everything! Not to mention a completely destructable enviroment, (which leads me to a lesson of the day.... never shoot a laser cannon in the middle of a town square...thats a good way to get alot of innocent people, and yourself, killed in about 2 seconds...) This game is really awesome, but there are some problems here and there. For one thing, the game will lag sometimes. Its not that bad, but enough to kinda make ya go...ehhhhh. Its forgivable though, considering how much is going on. The other thing is when you go to pick your weapons... its in very japanese...so you may end up picking weapons you dont want. One time, all I had were 2 grenades... which is no good. Im sure Ill get it eventually. All in all, import this if you can.

    Good
AWESOME RUN n GUN action! Not to mention 2 player co-op!

    Bad
Some lagg, Lots of japanese, and that announcer doenst SHUT THE HELL UP!!!

    Ditto
All the sound effects and "sci-fi" weapons sound like the cheesey lazers from Godzilla, and the whole game resembles a bad Japanese horror movie. Its great fun!

Earth Defense Force 2 - Simplesmente viciante!!!!

    Excellent
While the framerate is patchy, the fun of blowing up hundreds of giant insects shouldn't be underestimated. In addtion, the game is about 3 times larger than the first and has a choice of 2 player characters who play very differently.
    Highly recommended!
