Arguably the best of the series People sometimes ask me about Metal Slug. Most American gamers have never heard of the series, even though the games span 3 consoles and 2 handhelds in the States alone, aside from the arcade machines. Truthfully, without Mame, I don't know if I'd know the series either. But, ever since I found it 5 years ago or so, I've been hooked. And, whenever someone asks me to explain what it is, the description I give is exactly why I keep coming back for more: "It's Contra, on crack."
In Metal Slug 3, the operative word is "more." More vehicles, more enemies, more harder (hmmm...), more fun. And you get to be a zombie that can cover the screen with destructive blood. What more could you ask for?
Brilliant fun Widely-regarded as the best METAL SLUG in the series, and rightly so. The fantastic hand-drawn graphics are just packed with detail & humour- You could play this game for years and still spot something new. The PS2 version is pretty-much a perfect conversion.
The pixel-perfect gameplay is what really makes the game though. It's immensenly enjoyable just to play through for fun, but the real meat appears when you start gunning for high scores as there's so many hidden bonuses and scoring tactics etc.
Metal Slug at its best The conversion is beautiful work but I have to admit I wasn't too impressed with the mini-games, of which there are only two. The gameplay itself, however, is as solid as ever. Simple yet fun, just what veterans of the series have come to expect.
The PS2 version is as good as it gets, and best of all, this time it doesn't cost you a fortune.
Better then the arcade version Easily the best game in the Metal Slug franchise, improved over the arcade original with the inclusion of alternate gameplay modes / additional missions and removal of slowdown that plagued the 2 player gameplay in the arcade.
