This is the last chapter of the Space Battleship Yamato Trilogy, based on the classic anime of the same name. The game is a mission based, real-time action simulation game. The game is divided into war simulation, graphic adventure and action adventure portions. In the action mode, you control a team of 3 characters to battle the opponents, you can switch between the 3 characters at anytime. Each character can use different set of weapons, you can also order your companion to do cover shooting.
本作は、第2弾だった「宇宙戦艦ヤマト 暗黒星団帝国の逆襲」のストーリーを引き継ぎ、劇場作品第3作「ヤマトよ永遠に」（(C)東北新社）の後半をベースにオリジナル展開を加えた決着編です。前作同様に、艦隊戦と白兵戦の両方でヤマトの世界が堪能できます。さらに、第2弾「暗黒星団帝国の逆襲」のゲームクリアデータも収録！ゲームをクリアしないと解けなかった第2弾のステージや貴重な映像など、スペシャル要素が全て鑑賞可能に！
