Best AC Game ever? I think so. Basic Summary: Last Raven is significantly different from other versions of AC. Three key areas: (1) Menu interface runs faster and more smoothly than before and the garage has been significantly overhauled. Beyond the aesthetic, (2) the physics engine has undergone significant improvements and (3) mission structure and difficulty appears to be on a palatable level.
Quick Points:
* Garage menus are easy to scroll through and are far more functional than in previous versions of AC. It is now NOT a pain in the ass to design an AC.
* The game engine has been sped up. ACs are much faster than before.
* Enemy AI has been improved. It appears that they at least observe appropriate ranges for engagement.
* Missions, so far, appear to be slightly more involved than before. There's a little more depth and difficulty in the level design - this might be because I'm using the starter AC. However, throwing two enemy ACs at any design is usually a sign of a difficult level. And, yes, you have multiple ACs thrown at you around every corner.
* Fewer enemy ACs; however, the few that you face seem well designed and scripted.
* Heat mechanics cooled down a bit. Heat has not been a problem in this game so far. But I didn't feel it was much of a problem in Nexus, either.
* Physics engine uprated: You get actual momentum from OB burns. The game feels a lot more gritty than before.
* Part breaking: I'm not even sure what it does. I've had a few parts break, and it hasn't impacted my AC's performance to a noticeable degree yet. Perhaps this is a little premature of me to mention, though. We shall see if it's a big problem later.
My opinion: I like it, but then again, I've liked most AC games right from the get-go. So far Last Raven appears to have a tightly knit game engine, vastly improved assembly menus, and a very solid single-player mode.
