description
It's much more than a memory card! For the first time, you can take parts of a game with you and play with them away from home. The VMU has its own microprocesor, screen, memory and controller and can act as a self-contained game machine. You can save information from your Dreamcast onto the VMU and modify/change/play with that data while you are away from your Dreamcast. For example, download characters from Sega Dreamcast games into the VMU, train them while on the bus, and then load them back...

Yes it works... ...with US consoles as well. I'm glad I was able to get a controller for this low price. It is new in package, and it works with saving games. I already got Lost Hope saved, a game which I've ordered from this site as well.
Memory card, and a bunch of other functions No, this is not as useful as a swiss army knife, but this is one of the BEST and the most creative memory card ever invented for a game console.
Not just a way to store saved games and game data, but also for mini games. too bad not that many vmu games are created. but fortunately, you can find home-brew vmu games on the internet.
Wow Still the most intuitive memory card out there. I was lucky enough to get a DreamCast recently with Shenmue and Sonic Adventure and while playing Shenmue I was delighted to find that the VMU displayed the keys I had to press to learn a new move. Truly great. =D
the little card of miracles The Dreamcast as a machine was far ahead of its time, offering an amazing range of games, and internet functionality, accompanying these games on this fantastic machine was a little memory card device known as the VMU.
the VMU(Visual Memory Unit) which goes into the controller, offers a display and sometimes a little screensaver whilst playing the game, more often showing the HP of your character, or used for mini games like in Skies of Arcardia.
this V M U card is amazing, if you love your dreamcast, this is a must
im not sure if you can anymore but you used to be able to download games onto the VMU when online with the dreamcast
the very best! SEGA continues to amaze me even after they are out of the console biz, the vmu is awsome for minigames and awsome for saving! no competitor has managed to put together a memory card such as this.
my vridict is 4.0 i love the screen and buttons and the fact that you can play mini games but sega should have thought more about the battarie life.
Gameboy?? what's that? sorry i was too busy playing my vmu.

awsome awsome color!!!!!!! and cool japanese writing make this a must have for any dreamcast collector. region free. and i think there is a Special Edition containing a mini Giant Gram wrestling game on the VMU.
Still the best memory card ever! In my opinion the dreamcast vmu remains the best memory card ever made and still is.
With a built-in lcd screen it can display various things, even mini-games can be loaded from a DC game if the developers included it,allas many didn't only a few games do have such mini games, but hey,it's still a great addition when you can manage your saves or copy them to other vnu's without having to use them on a dreamcast.
And i never lost game saves with the official vmu,
N-E-V-E-R so i give the unit 4,5 stars.
4,5 'cause the batteries you have to use for it are expensive and run out very fast, but you don't need them to keep your saves ,it's only when you want to play mini-games on the go that it's really needed.
Amazing, still beats competition today and will for many years to come.
