Under Defeat is a military vertical scrolling shooting game adhering to a realistic screen expression and a simple operation. Graphics are combining a classical 2D game play with 3D background elements and lots of small details. The game is played with 8 direction and 2 action buttons (shoot & bomb).
Additions to the Dreamcast version include a variety of setup options, including several display modes and an arrange BGM mode. A pratice mode has been included, in which a stage can be chosen freely and replays be saved. The saved replay can be seen from different viewpoints to study and improve one's skills. The Dreamcast port further contains a Gallery Mode with lots of pictures, artworks and more.
One of the best Shooter at all Times!!!! G.REV made a great Job! Awesome Graphics, beautiful Explosions, nice Aiming Mechanism, perfect Enemy(s) and Leveldesign. That's how should be Shoot'em up's! In every Way much better than this slow, boring and nerv(change Colors to absorb Shoots) Ikaruga from Treasure! G.REV, you are really Professionals! Only Battle Garegga is better! It is on the same Level with Raiden and the Thunderforce Series! The only sad Things is, there are some Slowdowns in the Game and second, i owned no Copy in my Collection! But i played this once through and it is worth every Price you can find it on the Market! best Regards. mc
nice aiming mechanism really fun game where you can aim about 20 degrees either side of forward, depending on which way you're moving, then keep that angle of fire by firing. once you get the hang of it you'll be dodging enemy fire and shooting them from the side in no time! a lot of fun and keeps me coming back even though I'm not ver good, yet!

ONE OF THE TOP 3 DC!!!! A sequel to zero gunner 2,quite technical and a true eye-candy,top playability and quite good lifetime(you ll get back to it!!!).
Great shooter. This game is beautiful - if played on a VGA monitor. On a regular tv, it isn't half as good.
My Under Defeat LE version arrived six days after ordering it, so yet again, extremely good service. I haven't had a single problem with play-asia since I've started purchasing games from them.
The game itself takes a bit of getting used to, though, that really isn't a problem. I don't like Zero Gunner 2 at all, but this game is amazing. You can't compare the two. As there's a lack of videos regarding this game, I'll attempt to explain this to the best of my ability.
The game is a vertical scrolling 2D/3D shooter, and the graphics are akin to Ikaruga. I'd go to the extent of saying the graphics exceed Ikaruga's, simply due to the explosions and amount of detail they've put into the game.
It isn't a bullet hell shooter like the CAVE games. It's a balance of blowing stuff up, along with bullet dodging. It's rather difficult to kill everything on the screen, and you're bound to miss a few enemies, so it really feels like you aren't some tiny ship killing everything in sight. However, there are bullet patterns as found in CAVE games, but not half as much.
The soundtrack is nice, but it isn't special. It's a nice addition, and Stage 1 (Can't come back) and Stage 5 (Tears which died) are most memorable. But I must admit, in comparison to other OSTs available (ESP Galuda comes to mind), this isn't the best of the bunch.
Regardless, I highly recommend purchasing this title, along with a VGA box, along with DC-X. Having this hooked up to a TATE'd 17" monitor, and the sound into a subwoofer, makes for an incredible game. I can't honestly say this game has the same feeling on a regular tv, although it is still stunning for the Dreamcast.
If you're going to purchase this product, go all the way. VGA box, vertical monitor, boot disc, and Under Defeat. Make shooting fans proud.
Erschreckend gut! ;)

Bring the ps2 games developers back to school The graphics on this shooter is up to par with those of the ps2 shooterss, if not better. While I was playing it, I was surprised at how Dreamcast could handle graphics in such quality! The sound effects might not be the best as it is CD based, but overall it doesn't hurt the game a bit.
It's a well-made shooter with pick and play type of control and superb graphics. Better pick it up before it went out of stock!

Most fun I've had on the DC for a long time I have agree with most of the posters here - this game is phenominal. The graphics are incredible (better than alot of PS2 games) the smoke from explosions, the brass dropping from your heli's chain gun - extremely well done. I like this game much better than Zero Gunner 2. It kind of reminds me of the old arcade game Twin Cobra. Buy without hesitation!

Insanely Beautiful Shooter!!! This is simply a near perfect arcade shooter. A flawless blend of 2D and 3D and a worthy tribute and continuation of the Zero Gunner 2 type gameplay. Please don't stop making arcade shooters. These games are fantastic.
Insanely Beautiful Shooter!!! This game is simply one of the greatest arcade shooters ever made. A flawless blend of 2d and 3d elements and a great tribute to Zero Gunner 2(also one of the greatest shooters to ever be created). Please do not stop making arcade shooters. Sincerely, Loyal Shooter Fan

A well crafted shooter from a promising little game company. Everyone mentions this game and Zero Gunner 2 in the same breath. Just know, that they are completely different games as far as gameplay and score mechanics go. The only thing they have in common is helicopters. I'm a HUGE fan of ZG2, but UD truly deserves a spot on your shelf right next to it. This game has a fairly straight forward yet subtle scoring system. Gameplay is extremely challenging and graphicaly, it's superb. I'm honestly not a big fan of Border Down, but this one gets my vote. Bottom line: an excellent effort from G.Rev. Buy!
Great shmup to add to your collection Very fun shooter, looks great for Dreamcast and it has a nice soundtrack. Very pleased with my purchase.
Don't wait for this to become even more expensive once it's sold out and hits ebay.

Helicopters + Hot Chicks + Massive Explosions = Awesome Shmup! First and foremost, this game is absolutely gorgeous. It is easily the best looking polygonal shooter I have ever seen, even surpassing the amazing Ikaruga and Zero Gunner 2. Of course, this wouldn't mean anything if the gameplay wasn't there. Thankfully though G Rev. have created a masterpiece of carnage that is as fun to play as it is to watch. It dosen't seem to have a amazingly in-depth scoring system like Border Down did, but instead goes for a "Blow S*** UP!" attitude. Hopefully we can convince G. Rev. to bring Senko No Ronde to DC if this sells well enough, so what are you waiting for?

Not G Revs best........... Ok this a great shoot em up but its military setting etc lacks imagination. Furthermore its graphical style reminded me very much of Zero Gunner 2 on the dreamcast. A solid entry for G Rev but in my oppinion not a sgood as Zero Gunner 2 and nota s good as G revs previous DC shooter Border Down. Overall 7/10 solid but its just lacks a certain magic.

Stunning Shoot 'Em Up! This is one of the greatest shoot 'em ups I've ever played. The graphics is very impressive (you gotta see it in motion!), and it's got some cool music as well. The 2-player coop-mode is also very entertaining. If you like shoot 'em ups, and have a Dreamcast, buy this game. If you got som extra money, buy a Dreamcast with this game. You gonna love it. For those who won't be able to get this game, well, you can hope for a release on maybe GameCube, PlayStation 2, XBox or XBox 360. It's wierd it hassen happened, 'cause this game is a must-have for SHMUPs-fan!
an amazing game as a casual fan of shooters its really good to see a game of this genre which offers such accesible and modern gameplay while keeping to a simple formula. the first thing that strikes you is the graphics, which while not being as instantly beutiful as ikaruga begin to show themself as truly cutting edge. for example the explosions are amazing, but you begin to notice little touches like how new explosions make the smoke from the last one dissipate with realistic and realtime physics.
the weapons system is reminisant of the classic 16 bit era shoot em ups as your secondary weapon deppends on which colour coded pick up you get. you always have a little robot gunner following you around which automatcly targets and shoots enemys for you. after a while it 'breaks' and you have to stop shooting for a while to let it recharge. this adds a quic and simple strategy element as you have to choose the most suitable targets and power ups for your 'helper
this is abrilliant game and like ikagura showcases the dreamcasts unrivaled abilities for this kind of game.
DC or 2D-3D combined Shooter fans hurry up! In a word those who love and believe in DC also wanna a high quality game with a good graphic in this genre(shooter) and current gen get this now!
A real Dreamcast game that reminded me the glory days of SEGA's current gen little white console.
Those who love to play 2D-3D action shooter games don't miss this masterpiece.
Graphic: The visuals of explotions and the rest of the main elements that must bring you real excitement are well done.
Even some Xbox 360 titles don't have such as these explotions like king Kong Xbox 360,Lol!
In one word the graphic is the best for this genre & generation.
Sound: Sound Tracks are so beautiful-Help gamer to play the game with his/her feeling. Also sound effects are well done.
Game Play:The thing that you want them from a 2D-3D shooter game in 2006 on DC as a console with current-gen power are available and again
Graphic visuals beside beatiful sound tracks will bring you a good game play.
Score:Famitsu has given this game about 30/40 and that shows this again "A must have DC game in 2006 is Under Defeat"
Comparing with other new releases: Underdefeat VS Radigly-----In my and famitsu's oponion this game is even better than that one.
And Overall:
Dreamcast will never die,Fans can enjoy from it's new high quality releases such as Under Defeat too.
Last suggestion if you have a few more money
...Get the limited edition because as I said before OSTs are so beautiful and you must have the OSTs CD too.
