One week after release of the US Nintendo DS™ hardware, we have received the first shipment of Japanese Nintendo DS™ consoles today - 3 days prior the official Japanese street date. Depending on release of Nintendo DS™ software titles as well as accessories that are all scheduled for release in this week, we will start shipping preorders of Japanese Nintendo DS™ consoles throughout the entire week.
New orders for
Japanese Nintendo DS™ consoles are welcome at US$ 189 to ship within the next few days as well, depending on availability of addon order items - to arrive right on time before Christmas. Despite the US Nintendo DS™ supply shortage situation, we estimate to have sufficient supply available for the Japanese model.
Language settings: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese
As earlier announced and confirmed by Nintendo, the Japanese Nintendo DS™ console features a multi-lingual interface. You will be able to switch the language between English, French, Italian, German, Spanish and Japanese. The language option applies to all internal DS functions, including the built-in Pictochat application.
Please note that the default language of the Japanese DS console is Japanese. You will find instructions on how to change the language as well as other topics on Nintendo's customer service help page
here
No region encoding - play games from any region on any system
Once again as announced before, we would again confirm that Nintendo DS™ consoles as well as software titles have
no region protection. You are able to play your American DS games on Japanese consoles and vice versa. The same compatibility has been announced for the upcoming Asian as well as European DS models and games.
Wireless link compatibility
We have tested linking up a Japanese Nintendo DS™ along with a US Nintendo DS™ model with positive results. Despite earlier rumours, you can link consoles from different regions without any problems. We have tested this feature using the Pictochat application as well as the Mario 64 DS mini game download function.

Please find below a couple of comparism shots between the Japanese & US Nintendo DS™ packings and consoles. In general, the Japanese packing is designed very plain compared to the US model. Japanese & US DS consoles are technically 100% identical.

Japanese launch lineup
Along with the Japanese release comes a variety of interesting DS software titles, not yet available in the US market. As Japanese highlight we are especially expecting
Touch! Made in Wario to be well demanded. However there are certainly other interesting picks among the launch lineup of this week:
