The Tokyo Game Show is known as the world's largest game and entertainment event. Taking place once in a year, the TGS 2005 is currently held under the theme "Your front row ticket to the next generation of gaming".

A total of 131 exhibitors (compared to 117 from last year) in 1,433 exhibit spaces on a total space of 47,000 m2, including game software companies from USA, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Russia, Ukraine, Canada, Australia and of course Japan are showing a total of more than 600 new titles for all existing and shortly upcoming gaming platforms as well as for the (Japanese) mobile phone market.

Just like the last 2 years, we have once again attended today's first press & business day of the show and have taken the effort to compile a quick newssheet directly from our hotel room. As there's plenty of excellent coverage available on most of anyone's favorite video gaming news site, we are dedicating our news post to a very few topics only, combined with a number of videos and of course lots of pictures.


Nintendo™ Revolution Controller revealed

As the cornerstone of his speech today at the Tokyo Game Show's annual event, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata presented the new controller that will be central to the company's upcoming console system, code-named Revolution.

What looks a bit like a mix of an Ipod Shuffle and a remote control is supposed to become one of the key elements of Nintendo's future marketing strategy. The wireless device communicates with two sensors that will be located right next to your TV set. By locating the position and movement of your remote, the interface allows players to interact with the game. Believing Nintendo's promises, you will be able to run, jump, spin, slide, shoot, steer, accelerate, bank, dive, kick, throw and score in a way never experienced in the history of gaming.

When picked up and pointed at the screen, the controller gives a lightning-quick element of interaction, sensing motion, depth, positioning and targeting dictated by movement of the controller itself.

The controller also allows for a variety of expansions, including a "nunchuk" style analog unit offering the enhanced game-play control hard-core gamers demand.

We have to admit, the idea looks promising and opens gates for new video gaming ideas. Hopefully Nintendo can gain acceptance from video game publishers, which is certainly much needed for success of the upcoming home console.

Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen 4 videos

Tomy's highly acclaimed and much anticipated Gamecube™ fighting game Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen 4 has been shown to the public for the first time. We have given the game a short test ride and even better, provide you with around 30MB of video coverage. The previous three releases have been record-selling at Play-Asia.com and once again Tomy promised to provide hungry Gamecube™ owners with refill this Christmas season.

Determined by the Intro, Cursed Sasuke will be one of the new characters available in Naruto 4. Additionally, we have seen four Orochimaru bodyguards from the Oto Village (Tayuya, Jiroubou, Sakon & Ukon (in one body) and Kidoumaru). All of the four characters have received Orochimaru's seal and have gained the ability to transform.

Further details are certainly to be announced soon. The game is set for a release this Winter 2005. Make sure to preorder your copy now at US$ 64.90 only.

Unfortunately, Sony's upcoming flagship - PlayStation3™ - was not playable on the TGS. Only technical demonstration videos were shown and just like on E3, the PS3™ model itself was only visible behind plexiglas containers on Sony's booth.
