Bleach DS: Souten ni Kakeru Unmei (JP)
BLEACH DS 蒼天に駆ける運命
Game Description
Developed by Treasure and published by Sega, Bleach DS is a 2D fighting game which allows you to battle head-to-head with CPU, local wireless or online opponents using Nintendo’s Wi-Fi Connection. The whole cast from the popular Anime is there for the taking in an all-out fight to become the ultimate champion.
The Good
Easy to learn controls; great system for combo-attacks
A good cast of characters to play as (and against)
Characters have unique fighting styles and special moves
Deck system - cards can be used during fights (think of them as magic spells) and card purchase/collection and deck building adds to the fun
You can activate combo/special moves from the touchscreen (if you don’t wish to use the combo button sequences)
Can multiplay with up to 3 friends via wireless connection with just a single cartridge
Engage in online matches with players all over the world via Nintendo’s Wi-Fi Connection
Lots of unlockables
Good replay value (from the use of different characters, Arcade/VS modes, Wi-Fi matches, unlockables)
The Bad
Story Mode is text-heavy (those not fluent in Japanese will have a difficult time completing the Story Mode without some translation help)
Deck system - cards use Kanji characters to represent card effects (if you don’t understand the Kanji, you may have difficulty using the cards effectively; would have been better if language-independent/symbolic icons were used)
Activating combo/special moves from the touchscreen can make the game too easy (but you can set the game AI difficulty higher to compensate for this - Easy/Normal/Hard)
Wi-Fi matches are too laggy
Could do with better graphics (some edginess/pixelation can be observed for character sprites and some special moves)
