description

From the makers of December 2004's released Chaos Field comes another 2D shooting game ported from the arcade to the Dreamcast™ home console. Radilgy is set into a toon shaded world in the near future and implies a number of new elements such as advice given during play and other.Three kind of shooting types are available, including "wide shot" and "1-2-3 laser". A shield can be used in near-death situations protecting yourself from enemy shots as well as destroying approaching enemies.

Decidely Average...
I take pride in playing all of my DC shooters in their full 32\" TATE glory and was overjoyed when another was announced to be released for the ill fated noisy white box.

Radilgy looks ok, plays ok and is basically just an ok shooter, The novelty graphics soon wear off and the levels are all very similar to each other. The ship handles responsively enough but it just doesn\'t get the heart racing. I\'ll crack this out every now and then but will stick to psyvariar and underdefeat.

NOT the shining jem that everyone seems to claim it is... :-(
First off I would like to say that I expected quite a bit out of this game, given the reviews and comments that I have seen over the last couple of months, not to mention the long run of great Dreamcast shooters that I have greatly enjoyed, which in my opinion, sit as the highlights of this system that had it\'s lifespan cut far too quickly.

Given all of this, I would have thought Radilgy/Radirgy (whatever you care to call it) would have at least followed closeby, in the footsteps of Rez, Zero Gunner 2, Psyvariar 1+2, Shikigami no Shiro 2, Border Down, Chaos Field, Trizeal, Ikaruga, Gigawing 1+2...(shall I bother listing the rest of the great shooters?) Especially Chaos Field from the same company, which despite what I have heard from the majority of shoot \'em up fans, I really enjoyed, not to mention had great music; sadly it does not hold a candle to any of these.

When I first saw the screenshots for this game several months back, I was more excited in the fact that 2 new shooters were coming out (this and Under Defeat), and I took the screenshots as nothing more but bad shots. I understood it was going to be cel shaded, which given previous experiences with this artform, I have seen bad cel shading, and I have seen great cel shading. Rez was a shining example of this, and even if I didn\'t really like Jet Set Radio\'s gameplay, it was still interesting to watch.

Taking all of this into account, I finally got a chance to sit down and play this game that I expected to be added to the top of my favorites list on the Dreamcast.

I was sadly disappointed, and Radilgy is a medicore shooter at best.

The music is extremely lacking, which is one of the elements that can really get you into a shooter, even if other aspects are not top about it. Sadly, nothing caught my ear.

Graphics: cel shading at it\'s worst on any shooter I have seen. Jet Set Radio\'s cel shading stomps all over this...not sure what the deal is, but there is barely any detail, I don\'t blame this one on the Dreamcast at all. The explosions in the game are not even anything to be impressed by. Hopefully when the Gamecube and PS2 versions of this are released, it won\'t look so washed out, even though I hated Chaos Field on PS2, as it made it look way too smoothed out.

Gameplay: 3 different ships (different speeds), and 3 different choices of firing (normal, laser, and some bubble thing), which I have seen much worse options on greater games, but that does not help much here. You have a sword, which made me think of a couple of other games, but it is almost worthless, other than doing a bit of heavy damage. You have your run of the mill powerups, which enhance your weapon to full power, and there is not much going on otherwise. No bombs, but there is this gauge that fills up when you destroy enemies that kind of works like a vacuum sucking in all the shots around you, as well as all the powerups and other things strung around the screen for point pickups, and there is a shield powerup too. Oh and there is this annoying e-mail thing, which you will see what I am talking about when you are playing, which sometimes will pop up while in the middle of play. The difficulty was about par for a shooter, I didn\'t find it too hard or too easy.

Overall, I expected way more, especially considering Chaos Field coming from the same company, and with this being the next to last game on the system (so far anyway). Definitely a poor excuse to re-issue the Dreamcast, and it makes me honestly wonder what Sega was thinking packaging in this game with their system.

I would almost dare say that this is as bad as Giga Wing Generations on PS2, but I don\'t think it in the same calibur. I gave this 3 stars, because like I said, it is medicore. While not horrible, it is not a Gigawing 2 by any means...or any of the other great shooters on the system.

Final comment: save your money and get ANY of the other good shooters on Dreamcast, as this definitely is not worth it.

Quirky and fun..........
This a great game the cel shading might put some off but this is tough, theres no easy ride here. A great shoot em up, I just wish the music was a bit more catchy (7/10).

Don\'t blink......
Hands up who thought that Chaos Field was a bit of a let down. Hmm, quite a few of you.

Well the latest Milestone Dreamcast offering blows that out of the water. You can put your hands down now.

Obviously the first thing you notice about this game are the visuals. Yes it is cel-shaded with each and every enemy, explosion etc crafted in a \'toon\' style but don\'t let that fool you, Radirgy\'s closest comparison would be Mars Matrix.

Your ships \'hit\' box is very small which makes for some insane bullet dodging plus a chargeable shield to get you out of the tightest of tight spots.

Nice soundtrack that compliments the action and playability through the roof. The only thing I would level at this is the lack of a 2 player mode.

So basically if you like to play shooters where blinking = death. This is for you.
