descriptionTime to play all the games! This incredible device from Cyber Gadget claims to to support original games from the Famicom, SNES, Mega Drive/Genesis, PC Engine, TurboGrafx-16, Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Color, and Supergrafx!
Here is the real kicker: the Retro Freak will also allow you rip and install all these games from the cartridge onto the console with the use of an SD card! The device also has an HDMI output and supports 720p upscaling, instant saving, and cheat codes for certain games.
The actual console comes in two main parts: the largest piece is actually the cartridge adaptor while the smaller workhorse hides underneath emulating all your favorite old school titles.
Both versions (Standard & Premium) also ship with a SNES-style controller, but it will also work with both modern gamepads such as the DualShock 3 and DualShock 4. The Premium version also ships with the controller adaptor that supports Famicom, Super Famicom, Sega Genesis, and TurboGrafx controllers.

It needs an added ethernet connection to update the firmware automatically (maybe they can put one in the next model)... and they should implement achievements by utilizing the system established at retroachievements.org.
Also, the leeway in the cartridge slots gives a bit too much room. Cartridges should fit tight behind and in front. Now if you push forward or backward on the cassette it feels as if the connector may snap off below because there is too much room available.
Other than that, it should be able to play NES and Game Gear games right out of the box... and the controller adaptor should be built in. All the connectors that you must purchase separately are quite a drag.
I love the fact that I can finally back up all my cartridge games! The emulation is just fine, though turning on scanlines makes my monitor flicker. However, This may have more to do with the display I'm using rather than the Retro Freak. If you have Master System games, you'll need a powerbase converter. Also, NES games need a converter, as the machine only accepts FC (60 pin) carts.
Finally, the difference between the premium and the regular set is that the premium set comes with a USB adapter which allows you to use the original controllers. Since this also works with a PC, I'd say it's well worth it.
I've owned this system for a couple months now & I would not want to be without it. The ability to install all my carts onto a SD CARD saves me from having so much clutter in my living room which keeps my wife happy :-)
It has now gotten even better now that I can use the 8bitdo Retro Receiver for the NES with the Retro Freak:
Works perfectly with the above bluetooth & my 8bitdo SFC30 controller :-) This allows me to use 8bitdo wireless controllers with the consoles that only require the d-pad, start (run), select & two action buttons (B, A for an example): TG16, PCE, SMS, GB, GBC, NES & FC.
I would recommend this to any retro gamer. The console build quality seems to be fairly sturdy & I have not had any issues with the system software. They seem to be adding more features with every system update, so I am looking forward to what future updates bring.
i installed all my collection ( SGX/TG-16/Nes w/Converter (72pins to 60pins)/Snes/MD/Sms w/adapter for MD & Fc) in the SDHC ( 16 GB).
KEEP IN MIND if you have a HUGE collection of roms in the microSD you have to wait several mins to let it load completely.
I am very happy with it .. specially with the recent update.
thank you very much Cyber gadget :-)
Well after loading up my entire collection of games onto this system (500) I must say this system is awesome. If you're missing a game just put the rom on you sd card and done. Can't wait till it plays Sega CD and Turbografx CD roms. Also note that the actual system is about the size of a Vita TV when removed from the cartridge shell.. Awesome system
