There’s no doubt that each one of Hayoo Miyazaki’s titles have a lot of heart.
That little something that makes you warm and fuzzy inside, like when you eat warm Ramen on a cold Winters day in Tokyo, ah that oishii oishii ramen…. uh anyway I’m getting a bit off track here.
Allow me to educate you on why Ghibli films are some of the greatest anime films ever made for all ages.
Spirited Away
The incredible story of a young girl, Chihiro, who gets stuck in a magical world of gods and she must escape and save her parents.
Exquisite art and music and a totally immersive, magical world.
It’s no wonder why SPIRITED AWAY has been the single Studio Ghibli film to rake in the Western audiences.
Kiki’s Delivery ServiceSABRINA THE TEENAGED WITCH minus the teenaged part and injected with a heart-warming coming-of-age storyline that deals with important themes like acceptance and believing in yourself.
At the age of 13 every young witch must leave their hometown and move to a town where they must live for a year without relying only on their skills in magic to make a living.
Kiki moves to a big city by the sea and at first everybody is avoids her as she flies in on her broomstick. Not everybody in the city is nice and Kiki must prove herself to be accepted by the town’s folk.
My Neighbour Totoro
Perhaps Ghibli’s only film solely aimed at young kids, MY NEIGHBOUR TOTORO takes a leap in the magical world that only children can see.
Two young sisters move to the country side with their father, their mother is ill in the city.
After arriving at their new home the sisters are told an old wives tale by their father about little creatures made of dust called (you guessed it) “dust bunnies”.
After a little exploration you’d be safe to say the sisters encounter these cute little critters who lead them out to the yard where they discover a small rabbit-eared creature called “Totoro”.
MNT is one of those magical stories for kids of all ages (even the big kids) who don’t mind taking a trip back to the Disney films that brought you up (before they became money hungry).
Princess Mononoke
The film that had broken the record for highest box office sales in Japan, until TITANIC came along and bumped it off.
Princess Mononoke deals with the themes of war and the contrast of what truly can be considered evil. Mononoke is some what of a cult hit among anime fanatics and it’s easy to see why.
Well there are just a few examples of why Ghibli is known for some of the greatest anime movies released.
