features

  • Mario collects stars as he travels from galaxy to galaxy. Every level is new, but the game retains the charm, sense of wonder and beauty in line with Mario’s history. Mario works his way through the various levels, sometimes upside-down, sometimes floating from place to place
  • On some stages, Mario can find an egg, smash it open and hop onto the back of Yoshi. Yoshi can use his tongue to grab items and shoot them back at enemies, or to snag attach points and swing across chasms
  • Yoshi has an interesting diet. When he eats a Dash Pepper, he gets so hot and frenzied he can run up steep inclines and vertical walls. When he eats a Blimp Fruit, he inflates like a balloon and floats to new heights
  • New power-ups include a drill that Mario uses to tunnel through the planet’s surface all the way to the other side of a planet
  • Skilled players will want to collect new Comet Metals, which will unlock harder levels with even more challenges

Like the original, but improved in almost every way.
It seems almost odd that Nintendo were originally talking about this game as if it was a kind of 'unused levels' pack, as the end result is, to me, better than the original in almost every way. More variety in the levels in part thanks to the addition of Yoshi, more challenge, and above all more fun. The only exception is the music - which isn't bad by any stretch of the imagination, but doesn't quite reach the heights of the original.

Still a highly recommended title for anyone who owns a Wii, especially if you played and enjoyed the original.

Mario does it again!
I will admit, the first time I played it, I thought it was completely idiotic because I could not get over the fact that the ship you ride on was a Mario head. That and I didn't like the stage selection system. It reminded me too much of New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Also, I hated that big purple star guy. He was so annoying. But, I took a step back and ignored all that and gave the game a second try and arrived at this:

The graphics and worlds were beautiful and very appealing to look at. Most games I don't comment about the graphics, but I think in this case, they should be mentioned. The fire is was really caught my eye. I love fire effects in videogames. The way the fire was moving around on Super Mario Galaxy 2 was so freaking cool. I love the solar planets, Bowser's castles, and the magma stages!

The gameplay is mostly the same as the 1st one. I did notice a difference in controller response between this and the American versions. I picked both versions up. The Japanese version definitely responds to the Wii remote spins much better than the American version. I like the epicness of every Bowser encounter in the game. It just makes Bowser look he is an unstoppable god!

This game took new ideas for planets separating them from the 1st game. Also I thought it was interesting that this game used some 2D style gameplay a lot. If the game allowed you to move in 3 dimensions in those 2D places, it would be very hard to play.

Yoshi has finally come back after years of not being in a Mario platformer style game. I really liked the bulb Yoshi because of the way the paths lit up. It was pretty cool. I also liked only 2 of the power ups for Mario. I liked the fire and ice Mario abilities. I thought the bee and cloud powers were dumb. Ghost and rock abilities were pretty cool.

Bottom-line, fantastic game!
