this game posed as a sequel really for a good reason, it brings more refine aspect compared to the first installment.
What's unique about this game is that this is the very first localized Tales of mothership title that bring a more darker tone.
One of the problem of this game is that the main protagonist is a silent one, when we already have the privilege to choose it's overkill that the character is silent.
Other problem of this game is that it uses lots of recycling, well it is a sequel after all.
Special episode for each characters really bring an old enjoyment for me, almost similar enjoyment I got from Tales of Legendia.
Not a perfect installment in Tales of series but it really stands out for me as it bring many unique elements.
This is a must have for any RPG lover!
I understand that game sequels are generally seen as a chance to improve and change things their predecessors may have missed or could have worked on but depending on what you mess with, things can either be a bit better or alot worse.
-Combat v2 - more tactical options with an improved link system and the new main character, allowing weapons switching and different arts for each weapon, bringing new ways to approach every enemy
-Main Story - Destiny calls yet again as you find yourself caught up in a journey to save the world as you know it...by destroying other worlds and by proxy mass murdering entire dimensions again and again.
-Sub Stories;the gang is back - Alongside your main storyline, revisit and as Ludger, connect with the original cast of ToX from the past you know in the prequel to the changes that have come about leading to ToX2. Sub stories also have a light influence on cinematics of the main story, adding in little extra moments though not having a significant effect on the outcome itself.
-Visuals - Enjoy the beautiful backgrounds and scenery from ToX, with a few new additions to the mix.
-So....many....possibilities - the expansion of tactical possibilities available to Ludgar and prove confusing to anyone trying to make the best use out of it. Advanced players will leave incredibly stunning performances but the average person may struggle to scratch at the surface of what superhero-level combat can be.
-Same crude animations - occasional unnatural movements during cutscenes bring you back to the feeling of "...well, it's a game..."
-Weren't these guys....like hella strong... - fields and monsters from ToX have different difficulty ratings from their versions in ToX2, primarily because of where the protagonist of ToX2 starts his journey. Nonetheless, it feels odd when some of the most powerful field mobs of ToX become some of the weakest of ToX2.
-Time Sink ftl - The quest board system - a newly implemented feature into the game to make cash and quest rep for game achievements, may have you grinding excessively, farming maps, and waiting on your 100-cat army to find you items that are otherwise virtually impossible to obtain. The excessive time spent detracts from the other interesting aspects of the game and can affect it negatively as a whole.
All in all, it's a sequel, and in most cases a sequel comes with its own batch of issues because of the expectations it needs to overcome. Did it deliver? I can't say for certain, only you can be the judge of that.
i bought this mostly for the controller wish looks mighty wonderful and stylish
