Capcom's iconic zombie shooting horror series has finally gotten a new numbered sequel with the release of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (or Biohazard 7: Resident Evil in Japan). The past several iterations of the series have been more combat focused but with this new title, Capcom has decided to go back to the game's horror roots, and with a new perspective to boot!

In RE7 you'll be taking the role of a brand new protagonist, named Ethan Winters, as he goes in search of his wife, who's been missing for the past three years and presumed dead. After receiving a strange recording from her, he finds himself at an abandoned plantation in Dulvey, Louisiana. The residence apparently belonged to the Baker family, who have not have been seen in quite some time. Upon entering the house he finds himself caught in a series of twisted events as he tries to survive the Baker family who've mysteriously reappeared. However, the family doesn't seem entirely human.

RE7 will be switching the player's perspective from a third-person view to a first-person, putting you right in the shoes of Ethan Winters. The game will be far more focused on exploration and puzzle solving, but combat won't be completely missing from the game. With pistols, shotguns, explosives, flamethrowers, and even chainsaws you'll find scattered throughout the plantation, you'll be able to protect yourself from the mutant horrors you'll encounter (to an extent anyways).

The game will also be supported by PlayStationVR, allowing players to be completely immersed in the tense atmosphere and gritty world of RE7. The experience is enhanced thanks to the realistic gunfire when using firearms, as well as all the screams of pain, blood-splatters, and visceral gore you'll see and hear through the first person perspective.

Owners of PS4s or PS4 Pros will also be able to try out the special demo titled "Resident Evil 7 Teaser: Beginning Hour". In it, you'll be able to see events leading up to the start of the game, as the demo's story will be separate from the game itself.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard releases January 24th worldwide, and on January 26th in Japan. It'll be playable on PS4, PS4 Pro, XboxOne, and PC. The game has also received positive scores from Japanese game magazine Famitsu which you can read here.

Fans of horror games, the Resident Evil/Biohazard series, or anyone looking for a game to try out VR tech, this title will surely be the title you've been looking for.
