阿浩[中川大志 飾演]與杏奈[平佑奈 飾演]在前往己 沒上學多時的同學阿瞬[タモト清嵐 飾演]的家途中，被一隻 奇妙的蝴蝶帶引，進入了一間神秘的房屋「監獄屋」。他們 被關在屋內，因尋找出口而迷路。與此同時，曾經欺負過阿 瞬的卓郎[松島庄汰 飾演]、美香[久松郁実 飾演]及阿健 [勧修寺玲旺 飾演]也為了探險而進入到「監獄屋」。可怕 的青鬼悄悄逼近他們，恐怖指數再度升級！
Titular hero Zhong Kui is a famous character from Chinese folklore who is thought to have been so ugly, the emperor cast him out of the palace even though he had passed all exams to become an imperial councilor. Angry about this body shaming, Zhong Kui repeatedly threw himself against the palace doors until his head cracked open. Upon arriving in hell, the hell king realized his potential, made him Lord of Demons and sent him patrolling the three realms of Heaven, Earth and Hell as a demon hunter.
That much for the origin story, the movie itself centers around the (titular) Dark Crystal that Zhong stole from hell and holds power over demons. After placing it into the city of Hu to keep the souls of the inhabitants safe, Zhong stays to protect it from harm. For example a group of disguised female demons lead by (titular) ice demon Snow Girl (Li Bingbing), that is sent to Hu to recapture the crystal. Zhong recognizes his former (demonic) love Little Snow in Snow Girl and is caught between his emotions and his duty.
