Great port of a simply fun game!
Having played this on the PSP back in it's heyday as a "Mini" title, this game packs a lot of content into a simple-yet-fun arcade-style offroad racer. You won't find this kind of full-throttle action in many other places on the Dreamcast, and it shines as an example of what can still be done with the classic SEGA console.
I can say from personal experience with the PSP variant that this is quite an upgrade from that version, too, boasting improved framerates, VMU / Memory Card support, analog triggers being utilized for acceleration, and an interface upgrade to boot. Some of the textures are even updated, such as the ones seen on the variety of off-road vehicles you get to drive.
As for gameplay, it holds true to being an arcade-styled racer, with some good physics and plenty of wide-open areas to race in. Netting cash for new cars isn't too hard, but still just the right amount of challenge to keep it interesting. You can count on some vehicles being better than others, but with the ability to play events with vehicles in the same class, it balances out.
When you finish up the campaign mode, you can keep coming back to previous events to nab cash for cars you missed, OR dig into the quick / free race mode, which has a sweet selection of courses and the option to free roam the maps with some CPU drivers or all by yourself, on the many terrains and environments this game provides.
All in all, while this may seem a little steeply priced for a game of it's caliber, it's well worth the buy and a sweet addition to any racing fan's gaming lineup. This isn't just off-road racing fun, but a prime example that the SEGA Dreamcast's still got some juice to it. It puts a smile on my face knowing that!
