Arkanoid DS is a remake of Taito's popular arcade game originally developed in 1986. Those who are not familar with this classic, you control the "Vaus", a space vessel that acts as the game's "paddle" which prevents a ball from falling from the playing field, attempting to bounce it against a number of bricks. The ball striking a brick causes the brick to disappearWhen all the bricks are gone, the player goes to the next level, where another pattern of bricks appear. There are a number of variations (bricks that have to be hit multiple times, flying enemy ships, etc.) and power-up capsules to enhance the Vaus (expand your Vaus, multiply the number of balls, equip a laser cannon, break directly to the next level, etc), but the gameplay remains the same.Arkanoid DS features three different single player modes: clear mode, quest mode, and VS computer. The clear mode is the classic stage-by-stage that features 140 levels total. Quest mode allows you to select stages that you've unlocked to complete special objectives and earn game points. The VS mode allows you to clear either all the blocks or blocks of a certain color before your opponent does the same, and this mode can also be played ad hoc against friends.

Great game, with or without the paddle! The paddle though is definately the way to play this game. Unfortunately the paddle is no longer available and this bundle is the only way you can get it now (at least from here). And if you want to know what color it is, its white.

A lot of the updates are very good like the new game modes and multilayer (AI and humans), but some though could've used more work like the music and new additional changes to the gameplay to spice up the old formula.

The game is pretty import friendly as there are English in the menus, but there are also Japanese as well. Simply check online for an FAQ for the menu translation.

A great game made even better by the paddle
I agree completely with what segacon said, and you can't really say much more than what he did.

But I will. The paddle is great, it's got some resistance to it, and if you spin it fast enough it'll keep going for a bit. It makes playing the game far more intuitive than the other options

A great game, even without the paddle
Arkanoid DS is a terrific update of the arcade classic. It features a ton of stages and unlockable stuff like backgrounds, sound effects, and ships. It will take quite a while to finish this game off. The multiplayer (local or Wi-Fi) is quite good too, as you race to clear your board first while sending attack items to the other player. Non-Japanese readers will have no problem navigating the game's menus, also a plus. My only complaint is some of the stage designs are more challenging than fun, but overall I highly recommend the game.

Stylus control works very well for this game, if you don't have a paddle controller. D-pad control is supported too. You can always pick up a paddle later on if the game really strikes your fancy...
