Metroid with some sweet tunes!
So it goes to say that this game is a Metroid clone and that is not a bad thing. It's a sci-fi and atmospheric game that makes you want to explore the entire map just to see what other weapons or power ups you can find.
There are multiple endings. Each new power up makes you feel stronger. With the right weapons, bosses are cake walks no matter how huge and intimidating they may look. Depending on how much you unlock, this game could last you a while.
The pack ins are great. The making of was enjoyable. If it had a soundtrack, whether CD or digital, that would've been bomb. The music fit the game so perfectly.
The sound effects for the weapons fit them as well. The fluid animation of the main character and enemies were very well done. I look forward to the sequel in the near future.

THIS is the console 2-D Metroid game that wasn't.
Imo, Axiom Verge blows both Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission out of the water. It plays much better than Super as well.

If you are a retrogamer with an appreciation for spritework and old-school sensibilities, you positively need this game in your collection along with Wild Guns : Reloaded (another budget-priced classic with a facelift) .

The graphics honor the era without feeling cheaply made (and it was all made by one man) . The music is haunting, the sound effects SUPERB
(especially the explosions) and it all blends well with the game's dark, unsettling and often surreal atmosphere.

That said, Axiom Verge is not overly difficult so it's pick-up-'n-play at its finest. The extras in the Multiverse Edition are nice but nothing too special (I would've certainly appreciated a soundtrack, though) . You can do well with any version! d(^-^)
