Hakuoki is an otome video game franchise by Idea Factory. The game was highly recognized for its otome visual novels. If you haven’t heard what an otome game is, it is a story-based video game aimed towards women. One of the game’s main purpose is to establish a romantic connection between the female player character and one of the various male actors in the game.
It was first released in PlayStation 2 then later on ported to several gaming systems like PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS, and Nintendo 3DS. The game continued to bloom as it published different successful series throughout the years.
And now, Idea Factory and Otomate are working on their latest installment in the series entitled, Hakuoki: Edo Blossoms. It is considered as a sequel to the games previous title, Hakuoki: Kyoto Winds. The newest chapter of the franchise is expected to release on March 16, 2018, for PAL territories and April 24, 2018, for the US. The game will be available for PlayStation Vita Systems. 【TRAILER】
Hakuoki: Edo Blossoms is all about the life of a girl whose life has been caught up with the warriors of the Shinsengumi. And this girl is known as Chizuru Yukimura. The fighters of the Shinsengumi are striving to maintain their belief in an era of rapid social reform in Japan. And it is a story about the people who tried to oppose to that said evolution.
It all started out when Chizuru Yukimura went all the way to Kyoto having high hopes of seeking for her father who had been gone mysteriously lately. During her journey, she had a sickening encounter with the Shinsengumi who suddenly captured her. The innocent girl spent next four years with them trying to find her father.
As time goes by, the year 1868 came and it is the final year of the Bakumatsu Period. Having the presence of Chizuru at the side of the Shinsengumi, the warriors took part in the most awaited Battle of Toba-Fushimi. This is the clash where the Shinsengumi’s movement is terrifyingly hanging on the edge. This battle serves as the basis for the future of the Tokugawa Shogunate against the rising wave of Imperial Nationalism.
Unfortunately, the winner of the battle was declared and it is an extreme downfall on the side of Shinsengumi. The Imperial Army won the battle while the Shinsengumi flew back to Edo in severe embarrassment.
Chizuru and the warriors of the Shinsengumi were both saddened by the bittersweet homecoming as they arrived in the City of Edo. Their lost City followed very few of its ancient time. More so, the defeated warriors are enduring every ounce of their failure while feeling the tormenting winds of transformation that were sweeping throughout the whole region.
The terror in Shinsengumi’s existence doesn’t stop there. The terrifying threat to their life’s survival came. They were confronted with a choice it’s either to discard their beliefs or give up their lives. Cowardly, some of the groups’ members lived in disguised to protect the Shinsengumi’s greatest mystery.
