With bated breath, we’ve been waiting for news about the Dark Souls Remastered, but much like the original frame rate at Lost Izalith and Blight Town combined, any and all news has been slow and stuttering in the reveal – it’s like Bandai Namco and From Software have been greedily protecting their secrets like the four Prowling Demons hiding in a certain basement!
Which, to be perfectly honest, 7 years after the original’s release, it’s reassuring to see that the buildup before the remaster is treated with such respect; there are still many who haven’t played the original, and while veterans have most likely dissected the game to its bare pixels, any information at this point would be nice – we think we speak for the entire Dark Souls Remastered community when we say we’re thirsty for news like we’re out of Estus…
AND JUST LIKE THAT – our favorite plug Famitsu materializes to the rescue like a perfectly placed summon sign that works with the first screenshots of the game in action! We’ve read from previous press releases that the graphics will receive a contemporary overhaul, but this is just too much. So, tie up your deprived loincloth and let the praising intensify:
Wow guys, who knew Post Traumatic Stress Disorder could be rendered in 1080p and 60 FPS? Nice to see the pendulum blades in such sharp detail. What a time to prepare to die.
Okay we knew the Stray Demon was ugly, but these graphics are like staying at a club until the lights come on. He’s terrifying now!
Most guides never tell you that it’s mandatory to pull up the praise sign as soon as you reach Anor Londo; if you don’t do it, you can’t beat the game. Also this musical tribute accurately depicts our general feeling for this section of the game. Who’s listening in 2018?
Before we move on, let’s take a moment of silence. Seeing these amazing screens is much akin to the unforgettable “Amazing Chest Ahead!” sequence – vets know exactly what we’re referring to ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) – exciting times indeed.
We’re sure you’ve also noticed in the scans above the mad love for everyone’s favorite sunbro Solaire, especially with the amiibo that’s been announced recently. And like all things amiibo, it’s a mad dash to allocate stock, and while our Japanese version’s pre-order allocation has been already fulfilled, fret not, as we’re sourcing the European version soon! Just like the US and JPN version, this tiny effigy of #friendshipgoals unlocks the iconic Praise the Sun Gesture immediately, and you can use it with reckless abandon. Of course, you can always obtain the gesture through regular gameplay, but since this option exists, we’re pretty sure any Dark Souls fan – with or without a Nintendo Switch – would want this in their collection.

Or maybe you don’t? Perhaps you’d like something a bit darker… something in the shade of tragedy with a saturation level of abyss? Solaire does get a bit too much hype, and in the vast gallery of rogues within the Dark Souls Remastered universe, there is one character we feel who needs a bit more attention in the spotlight black light? In that case, toymakers extraordinaire First4Figures is following up on their Artorias The Abysswalker statue with something a bit more digestible, and a lot more kawaii:
We seriously need more chibi renditions of our favourite characters… tiny Gravelord Nito? Lovvvvve~ Mini Smough? Kyaaa!
Releasing on the 30th of April, we’ve just opened pre-orders for the Artorias The Abysswalker SD – super deformed or super dope or both; what makes this 8” PVC figure special is that we never see any cute Dark Souls merch! But don’t let his diminutive appearance fool you – First4Figures are sticklers for details, and they’ve been life-long fans of the series, so even though the scale of Artorias has been downsized, don’t think for one second that this smol Artorias can’t leave you feeling wanting!
Depicted telegraphing one of his most threatening attacks – the Wrath of the Abyss – where abyssal darkness envelopes in an aura ready for an area of effect explosion most violent, Artorias poses menacingly ready to unleash the corruption for any that enter his domain. Every minute detail faithful to the character is lovingly recreated, from his broken sword arm to the intricacies of his armour.
We only hope that First4Figures is creating more follow-ups of this SD format in the future, especially since a 1/4th scale Artorias was one of their original releases, and if that’s the case, we’d love to see chibi renditions of their previous releases, respectively: The Great Grey Wolf Sif, Dragon Slayer Orstein, and of course, Solaire Of Astora (seriously take a look at these links if you love Dark Souls… these statues are the best the industry has to offer).
Tiny Being’s Ring: Grants a small increase to fashion points, especially if you’re playing DS on a Switch…
For those who’d like take their admiration of Dark Souls Remastered on the go, the Japanese Dark Souls X Torch Torch collaborative jewelry line continues to impress. With their first 2018 release, they’ve painstakingly taken pixel to sterling silver once again. This faithful recreation of the Tiny Being’s Ring (otherwise renamed as the Life Ring in Dark Souls II and Dark Souls III) captures the intricate swirling patterns from the in-game item; the centerpiece gem is replicated with a rhodolite garnet, carefully selected for its brilliance and mysteriousness. A beautiful piece regardless of the context of its origins, Torch Torch’s designs look as if they were pulled from the Dark Souls Remastered universe directly. While it may not raise your HP, it will raise your FP – fashion points, and we all know Dark Souls is more fun when you play the fashion souls version.
