Blue Mary Will Join King of Fighters XIV

By this time, you might have heard that there will be a Ver. 3.00 update that will happen for King of Fighters XIV. And part of this update would be the inclusion of fan-favorite character Blue Mary as a DLC character.
For those who might not be aware, Blue Mary is a known veteran of both the KOF series as well as the Fatal Fury. She originally debuted in Fatal Fury 3 in 1995 and made her first appearance in KOF in KoF ’97. During her original debut for Fatal Fury 3, she was able to earn the admiration of fans. Hence, she became as one of the most popular characters of the said series. This also opened a new door for Blue Mary to make her debut in KOF when Japanese fans voted for her via gaming magazines.
Blue Mary boasts a unique fighting style. Her moves are based on Sambo, a Soviet martial art. For the most part, Blue Mary’s moves are more on grappling making her a sought-after wrassler. And in KOF XIV, these bone-crunching attacks were even more refined.
According to Yasuyuki Oda, SNK producer:
It was always difficult to put an emphasis on her grappling moves when they were created with 2D sprites, but with KOF XIV we were able to use the 3D camera and go crazy with the cinematic shots for her flashier moves, which meshed really well with her unique fighting style.

Blue Mary has always had a very unique fighting style, with moves that are based on the Soviet martial art, Sambo. Her move set includes a lot of grapple moves and as you can see in the trailer, we worked very hard to faithfully recreate all of those bone crunching attacks in The King of Fighters XIV! Blue Mary has always been a challenge to design as a result of how complex her grapple moves are to animate. Back in the day, when we were designing her for Fatal Fury 3, not many people on the team knew much information about Sambo. At one point, one of the designers working on Blue Mary, Youichiro Soeda, actually used me as a training dummy to show off some of the attacks he had in mind to the rest of the team. Just watching this new trailer of hers, I think I can feel my neck hurt a bit…
Blue Mary will be joined by Najd, Heidern, as well as Oswald as the upcoming DLC characters for King of Fighters XIV. These DLC characters will be available by April 12, 2018 once SNK opens the Version 3.0 update.
By the way, The King of Fighters XIV is available now on PS4 and PC.
