The Town of Light by developer LKA was originally released for the PCs in 2016. The following year, the game made it to the home consoles such as PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. And now, it’s exclusively coming out on the latest console of Nintendo–both digitally and physically.

The game is actually not your typical horror game. In fact, it sets itself as an extraordinary one. The publisher didn’t just come up creating this game without a purpose. Developing this kind of game targets most of the audience who are suffering from the symptoms of mental illness. Thus, raising this kind of awareness through a game is their way to help.

In fact, the team partnered up with a non-profit charity known as TakeThis Inc. This charity aims to educate and raise awareness about mental health issues. In this way, people can somehow lessen the stigma associated with mental issues.

With this, the team has decided to donate 25% of their profits from the digital sales of Town of Light. The sales covered the month of August 16 to September 6, 2017. It was later on donated to several mental health charities including TakeThis Inc.

So, what is the story of the game all about?

The Town of Light is a psychological first-person story driven by adventure game set in Tuscany, Italy. The game specifically takes place in the Volterra Psychiatric Asylum. Players take the role of a 16-year-old girl who suffers from symptoms of mental illness named Renée.

As you take the role of Renée, you have to help her discover the answers to her never-ending questions from her past life. Thus, get yourselves ready to set forth on an adventure and explore the places where Renée spent most of her childhood. Help her discover the good and bad mysteries lurking in those affected places. Guide Renée through a dark and emotional journey where the lines between entertainment, storytelling and reality blur.

For the first time within the game’s release, this Deluxe Edition brings a collection of exclusive documentary content. This footage will let the players witness the hospital at Volterra as well as the lives of its patients. Hence, this is one big evidence that the game is based on a thorough research and is inspired by real-life events.
