The Dark Pictures – Man of Medan

PS4™ & XONE™ – North America

Hold your breath and get ready for some goosebumps as the developer behind Until Dawn, Supermassive Games, wants to prepare us for some new adventure that is terribly horrifying.

Introducing the brand-new narrative-horror anthology, The Dark Pictures Anthology. It is a game designed for the PS4, Xbox One and PC that will give players a new horror experience with each installment in the series.

This announcement has been a surprise for everyone since it is a collaboration from Supermassive Games and the notable anime game developer and publisher, Bandai Namco. Bandai Namco is such an adventurer when it comes to games development. From RPG, puzzle, racing game, and now, the company is making a game that’s going to be our worst nightmare.

The first installment in the unconnected series is titled Man of Medan which is slated for a 2019 release. The first trailer for this entry was revealed on the floor of Europe’s biggest gaming event, Gamescom 2018.

You can watch it below.

The Dark Pictures Anthology is linked by one common factor: every playable character can survive and every playable character can die throughout the whole narrative. You, as a player, will encounter various possible endings and near-limitless replayability. The Dark Pictures challenges you to face your fears and unveil the mysteries of The Dark Pictures universe, where every decision you make has potentially unchangeable consequences.

This game brings you into a “supposedly fun” adventure of a group of four American tourists in search of a mysterious ship from the 40’s. Just like any Hollywood horror stories, these adventurers holiday diving trip soon turns bad as they stumble upon the haunted World War II shipwreck. With survival as their only concern, players must cross the terrors of the underwater, uncover its secrets and survive to tell their tale.

A game coming from the developer behind Until Dawn, the graphics of The Dark Pictures are pleasantly dense and realistic. Furthermore, the narrative itself is ultimately engrossing and appears to be something that comes straight out of a Hollywood Studio. From the twist of creativity to plot blending mechanics, and it’s undeniably horror elements.

What the Producers had to say?

Both Bandai Namco and Supermassive Games are beyond excited to introduce the game to the public. Well, why shouldn’t they be? The Dark Pictures has a high chance of shaping up its good future and the horror genre itself as well. With those various different choices that players can experience, every view will be like a whole new film, where everyone shares their diverse experiences.

Here’s what Bandai Namco and Supermassive Games had to say about the subject:

“We are incredibly excited to announce the Dark Pictures Anthology and the first game in the series – Man of Medan. With each title being a standalone game, we have the opportunity to create a unique horror experience every time, with new stories, settings, characters, and cast. As a studio, we have a passion to deliver powerful cinematic horror, and we can’t wait for players to experience these new games across PS4, XBOX, and PC. We have a great partner in BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment and we look forward to working with them to help bring these terrifying tales to gamers everywhere.”

-Pete Samuels, CEO for Supermassive Games and Executive Producer for The Dark Pictures.

“Horror anthologies have become incredibly popular in recent years, but this format has mostly been limited to the medium of TV — until now. With The Dark Pictures, we’re bringing this compelling method of storytelling into the world of video games and letting gamers take control of their terror with an unprecedented level of interactivity. Man of Medan is our maiden voyage into the genre, and it’s a journey that players definitely won’t want to miss.”

-Eric Hartness, Vice President of Marketing for BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America Inc.
