Created to keep safe the Imperium of Man, the galactic human empire ruled by the immortal Perpetual widely known as the Emperor, the Imperial Inquisition is a secret army which main objective is to eradicate anything that could undermine the stability of the Empire from an array of threats including forces of Chaos, alien invaders, and many other ones.
Divided into three major ultra-specialized orders, the Inquisition is composed by:

• Ordo Hereticus: they hunt the “enemy within”, namely all those individuals like traitors, witches or heretics who try to change the order of the society from the inside. Famous as very skilled investigators; the members of this order can understand very quickly if signs of corruptions and heresy surrounded the environment in which they operate. Acting discreetly they communicate with each other using mainly secret codes and hidden messages. In addition, all the members follow to the letter the pages of the Liber Heresius

• Ordo Malleus: unlike the Ordo Hereticus, the Ordo Malleus fight against the “enemy beyond”. All those creatures such as Daemons and other servants of Chaos which objective is to kill the Emperor to rule harshly over the whole of mankind. Thanks to their impressive power and influence, the inquisitors of this order can extend their sphere of activity much beyond the limit of any other order. Appointed with an Imperial Warrant, they are completely free hand in their operations. To eradicate the dirtiest forces of Chaos the Ordo Malleus can rely on the Grimoire of True Names.

• Ordo Xenos: a.k.a. The “Alien Hunters”. Their work is to discover, catalog, and battle all the outer-space races that threaten the lives of trillions of human beings. Universally considered the most eccentric order; these inquisitors have explored deeply all the nonhuman realms across the cosmos. Usually, they recognized two macro categories of aliens: the primitive ones who do not constitute a menace (they are commonly confined on remote planets) and the Xenos Horrificus which are the ones that due their advanced technological knowledge and aggressiveness must be found and purged at any cost. The reference opus of the Ordo Xenos is the Tome of Vethric which contains all the useful info about billions of races.

Other than these, there are dozens of additional minor orders. Each one keeps under control a specific aspect of the Imperium. For example, Ordo Obsoletus which check and eventually validate inexplicable phenomena and miracles; Ordo Redactus, those who revise the history; Ordo Machinum which members are scientists, engineers, and technicians who continuously maintain and improve the Imperium’s technology.
