Ever since SoulCalibur VI was revealed last December, SoulCalibur fans have been wondering if the game will be in the Nintendo’s handheld console. Rumors about a possible Switch version have circulated around the entire globe like a wildfire. Finally, during Gamescom 2018 in Cologne Germany, Dualshockers sat down with Producer Motohiro Okubo to ask if there is any truth about those rumors.

While it may not be the exact news that SoulCalibur fans are expecting for, producer, Motohiro Okubo, said that a Nintendo Switch version is currently not in the works. But, Okubo-san didn’t entirely rule out the possibility of bringing the game to the system in the near future.

“At the moment there is no development for Switch at all. I understand that the Switch is a very successful hardware, and of course if there is a possibility, then it would be great to do it.

At the moment we’re focusing on the October 19th launch, so we don’t even have the time to think about that possibility. After the launch we’ll think about the possibility.”

And there you have it, producer, Motohiro Okubo, has at least shed a light on the hope of getting SoulCalibur VI a Nintendo Switch port. It may not be a bad idea also since Nintendo Switch is already a home to a great collection of fighting games such as SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy and Dragon Ball FighterZ due out next month, and Nintendo’s very own Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

OH, BUT WAIT…

We still have one more statement from producer Okubo in his interview with Metro answering the same question with regards to the Nintendo Switch port of SoulCalibur VI.

Is there any chance of a Switch version, so we can have Link again?

Motohiro Okubo: SoulCalibur VI development started more than three years ago. And nobody knew anything about Switch back then. So, as a matter of fact we are not working on Switch, as of now. But of course, personally, I’m interested in the platform. So if the Unreal Engine can adapt to Switch, and evolve itself, then maybe the possibility will be more.

So that’s it, we already have two strong statements from producer Okubo that SoulCalibur VI is currently not in development, but chances are quite high. What’s your thought about this? Share it with us in the comment section below.
