The game publisher Merge Game will bring the action indie simulation and strategy game RIOT: Civil Unrest to the gaming consoles such as PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch this February 5th, 2019. This game is based on the real-life protests against the police and rioters.
According to Nick Clarkson from Merge Games from his exclusive interview in Fanatical, the game creator/director Leonard Menchiari joined the NO-TAV Riots in Val di Susa, Italy. He faced the police, and he understood the struggles and fears are not available to the protesters. In his experience, this is how inspired him to make this simulation game based on protest movement.
Now for the game itself, the economic crisis rises above, the entire population is not contented. So, the population cannot bear it but to shout and outburst their sentiments to the government as they protest. With this protest, violent public disturbances and civil disorder are evident. Play as the police or play as one of the rioters to see both sides of the protest movement.
You can choose either as the police or as the rioter. If you choose to be a police, you must command assault, tactical and ballistic squads. Be firm and brave as the police because you will use weapons to stop the protests such as smoke grenades, rubber, and plastic bullets or even live ammunition. If you choose to be a rioter, you either ignite rage to cause the masses to act militant or try to calm the masses and the situation with strategize crowd reformation and retreat. Of course, as a rioter, you can attack the authority with Molotov cocktails, fireworks, paper-bombs, rock, street furniture and more. Use the power of media to deliver the reason on why on the protest.
There are multiple modes available on the game. There are sixteen campaigns in four various scenarios such as Keratea (Greece), NoTAV (Italy), Indignados (Spain) and Arab Spring (Egypt). See both sides from the police and the rioters as you complete the 32 levels. This is a simulation game. Mostly on simulation games, you create your own scenarios and such. So, in this game, you create your own riots with the level editor.
