Completed in 1320, the Divine Comedy is one of the most renowned opuses of world literature; written by the Italian poet Dante Alighieri, this poem tells the long voyage across the three realms of the other world: Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven. Accompanied by the Latin poet Virgil, Dante travels far and wide to reach the supreme sight of God himself.
Providing also an allegory of the human soul journey towards the eternal bliss of the celestial kingdom; the Divine Comedy inspired thousands of artists that through the centuries created their own version of this universally beloved work.

The first game in which recreates faithfully the allegorical journey of the medieval poet is Dante’s Inferno for Commodore 64; in this arcade adventure game, the player controls a man that must reach the Purgatory.
