Determined by scientists studying the older stars; the universe is “built” by three kinds of substance: normal matter, dark matter, and dark energy. The first one is the substance that we can see and is nothing but the atoms that make up stars, planets, human beings and every other tangible object in the Universe, but it is also the smallest part, indeed according to the current model, the Universe consists of 70% of dark energy, 25% of dark matter, and only 5% of normal matter. Despite it even if it seems a very little percentage, don’t forget that, as discovered by Edwin Powell Hubble in 1929, the universe is not a stationary, flat environment but it’s always expanding. During his observations, he noticed that the galaxies move away from each other at speeds even greater than when they were more distant from each other; this is the Hubble constant.
At the present, it is estimated that at least there are at least 200 billion galaxies for a total of approximately 10²⁴ (1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000) planets, but consider that this is only an estimation, and there could be more. With a so huge number, it’s highly probable that Earth is not the only planet able to sustain life, but at millions of light-years from here, there could be civilizations who developed in a completely different way from earthlings. This theory has been proposed by Frank Drake in 1961. Calculating different variables the Drake Equation could be a useful means to find E.T. in the future.

Anyway, beyond any rough scientific estimations; since ancient times humans have speculated about life elsewhere. For example, in the 1966 book Intelligent Life in the Universe; the astrophysicists Iosif Shklovsky and Carl Sagan sustained that probably more than one extraterrestrial contact happened during history. And if we look at the Japanese Dogū or the Egyptian Helicopter hieroglyph in the Temple of Seti I this seems more than a far-out theory. Also, through the centuries thousands of writers, movie directors, and video game developers based their careers on extraterrestrial lifeforms. Opuses like Solaris, The War of the Worlds, Men in Black, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Mass Effect, Starcraft or Dead Space made a lot of people scream…of joy.
