Beyond anything you have ever experienced before! As a pilot of the Silver Hawk Squadron, your mission is to conquer the enemy using missiles and bombs. During flight, while destroying certain enemy objects, you can increase the armament of your fighterships by catching various power spheres – red, green, and blue. Red increases missile power, green increases bombing power, blue is a defensive shield. After you successfully fly the pattern and destroy the enemies, a huge creature will appear. By destroying the creature you can select the next battle zone.

Have you read this before today? Well, if you’re an old-school gamer, you should know it pretty well because this is the presentation of one of the greatest shoot’em up games of the 80s: Darius!
Released in Japanese arcades during 1986; this is one of the most important exponents of this hugely beloved genre. Made by Taito, the first Darius episode sees the player pilot the most advanced spaceship, the Silver Hawk, among the deep space to eradicate a species of cosmic invaders which shape is based on terrestrial fishes.
From Coelacanth to Hammerhead Shark; this game contains an incredible bestiary of creatures from deep space. Presenting an innovative multi-level tree structure, at the end of each stage the player is called to choose the next road to take in order to save the galaxy from this biomechanical army, and according to the chosen path, there are six different endings. Composed of 21 levels in total with more than 50 kinds of enemies to destroy (excluding the big bosses); the munificent developing team has also created three types of power-ups that make your mission a little less arduous.
Red Power-up is for missiles
Green Power-up is for bombs
…and Blue Power-up is for barrier
If used wisely, the combination of these three elements can release the deadliest spaceship of the whole galaxy capable to set free millions of celestial bodies in the most efficient way possible.

Thanks to its frenetic gameplay, ultra-detailed graphics & sublime avant-garde soundtrack; Darius became a real hit all around the world. Due to its popularity, the first episode appeared also on consoles and computers such as Amiga, PC-Engine, Game Boy, and many other ones.
